0 wheeled bot concept.
« on: June 15, 2011, 10:51:25 AM »
So, RA2 is fighting with me, and it has been since before I lost my password.
With much sarcasm, I'll also take this moment to 'thank' the person who somehow found that for me.
Now, anyway, Here is 2 screenshots of a bot I was working on.

This is the wheeled version, it was a basic test bot to see if the concept of a unflippable bot worked in combat. The results were highly informative, it did not. I needed to protect the wheels of the bot, and I needed to turn the wheels into a weapon, since my weapon rack could not reach my opponent.

The logical course of action is to just mod the wheel's so that they do damage, but instead I attempted to play by the book, and I've tried to turn my wheel's into weapons, generating a 0 wheeled robot.
Here is the result.

As you can see, RA2 sort of flipped me the bird on this concept, The weapons that I'm attempting to use as wheel's sunk into the ground, in all 100 tests. The 140 CM Sawblades generated 'better' results, but due to the mechanics of the game, my chassis rotated, rather then using the sawblades as wheels.

This isn't in my showcase because it doesn't work, I'm curious on what idea's you all have on fixing my idea so that I can drive it, I think it would be very powerful if I can make it work, my only concern is I need to armor the weapons I'm using as a drive train, because when those fall off, I'm more then positive the robot would be immobile.

Hmm,i say stick a small skirt on the back,so it will work well with sawblades.OR you can use the shell spinner discs, and stick beater bars on them. Then stick a skirt on the back.

Yeah, it's called physics. (Or whatever RA2 claims to use)
Better than GK since 2009.
I think SM is a pretty cool guy, eh builds unicycle-bots and doesn't afraid of anything

Kujii my friend, what you have there is a crawler. The best kinds of crawlers are created with four disc extender thingies and strong, compact weapons, like (dare I say it?) razor tips, thus turning the wheels into a weapon.

If you look at Suzaku's bot Absolute Spike Defense (or my klone of it, for that matter), you'll see what I'm talking about :3

Here, have a pic :gawe:

Beat you to it  :trollface

And many more beat me to that.

I don't know why the 259 discs do that (do they have a  weird collision mesh?) but you can find more than adequate substitutes for them.

RA2 uses HAVOK
Hazardous
Antigravitational
Velocity
Owning
Keynotes.

Also the picture was more informative then the words above it, I'm a visual learner and frankly didn't understand what any of you said until the picture was posted.

Not really, mine is a replica of sorts.

I built a no wheeled / controllable HS at some point;

Obviously unrealistic but very easily fixed.
EDIT: Ignore the cheat battery, it no longer exists on my game :P

Crawlers have been done since before you knew about this game.. you know that right?

The impression from the first post makes it sound like you only just thought of the idea

I understand crawlers have been done before, When a game is over 10 years old I don't expect anything, literally anything, I try to do to have not been done before. I merely couldn't fix the issue and it drove me crazy.
Thankyou for the fixes, The bot is operating now, I scored a 20K point lead on Emergency with the Starcore (or whatever its called) AI pack, so its exceeded my expectations.

I'll be going now.

Its better off that you don't use 259 discs anyways. They are absolutely worthless for giving damage.

Something I noticed when using its replica- you'd think a big VS would do more damage, instead of landing direct hits, but inflicting not so much as a scratch of damage. Heck, even the standard stock weapons with normals are more efficient.

Exactly. My high when using 259 is 133 points. With the disk running. On open chassis. With a full speed ram. From across the arena.

And even still, it's about effective as a Chocolate Teapot or a Wooden Frying Pan.
