Instead of a faggoty pit, which would need a complicated release machanism, you could do something like the Flextop Arena, and have low grills, like RW Series 1, to attempt to immobilise bots with lower ground clearance. Maybe the walls could be reasonably high, so flippers wouldn't be quite so dominant in the arena.

Hey, nothing wrong with a pit as long as it's properly implemented. I appreciate that the hazards may need to be a bit smaller, though.

And the walls are quite high- about the height of the BBEANS Arena 2. Mainly in order to give both flippers and rammers a chance against spinners and axes, but still. High enough to keep bots in, but low enough for a decent flipper to utilise.

Would it be possible just to have a constant pit, RW Series 3 style?

It was considered at one point, but I eventually figured it'd be better to have a way to seal it up for "No Hazard" matches. That, and if certain anti-pit naysayers like our friend Nary down there don't want the pit, they can still quite easily fight without it.

I always liked the S4 one when it just automatically came into play at the end of a match

No premature finishes due to falling in pits..

As for your plan the Pit is actually the biggest turn off for modders to do for you getting a square hole in the ground is really complex for notepad arena makers..

I would have considerd helping but I dont like the arena much (sorry) .. that and its a lot of effort for such a similar result to the RW arena..

Well... most of the Robot Wars fanboys like it I guess. Efficient builders, not so much.

Ah, that's a shame. Still, kind of the result I was expecting anyway, so I'm not too disappointed.

Unfortunately, I share the same sentiments as JoeBlo. There is plenty of potential here but it lacks the originality that I look for.

Though if you are interested in learning how to make this yourself, I wouldn't mind helping you get started.... Regardless of what you know ATM, I think you could have it all done within 1-2 months.

That'd be nice- I have plenty of ideas for arenas, just not the knowledge nor the hardware on actually making 'em.

Really? I figured it'd involve 3D image-building software, such as Maya or Mudbox or something.

Software =/= Hardware :P

Also, you only really need Notepad++ and Serge's GMF Compiler.

Oh, cripes! I'd only just noticed that mistake XD

And yes, I'll have a look into those two programs. What does the GMF Compiler do, though?

The decompiler makes the computer code into something more readable for humans (ASCII).
