Try copying the ra2.cfg from a working RA2 install over to your DSL2.1 folder.

I think it's important that we put more focus on the forums. While discord may be better for casual conversation and quick feedback, everything posted there is inaccessible to those not already in the community and it is not archived. This means that it hurts the forum in the long run, as people coming across the forum are not only missing out on activity (some of which would normally be posted on the forums), but they're more likely to see the forum as 'dead'. Basically what I'm saying is that the moving of activity to the discord makes GTM a more insular community, which is pretty bad when we're already pretty small.

As for what 'is' GTM, in my eyes at least it's the most active longer term members, most of which are more active on the discord. i also view it as the tournaments which are mainly forum based but also have a lot of discord activity, especially for robogames.

Modifications / Re: Invisible 40 Polycarb panel

I'm not expecting this to become a standard part of the DSL IRL install (like DSC's component packs, for example), however I hope it can help out someone who's struggling with crappy static/chassis wedges and is looking for a quick fix.

I'm planning on allowing this component in my future IRL tournaments. Of course, this being an invisible component, caution must be exercised by the host during signups to prevent abuse.

Modifications / Invisible 40 Polycarb panel

https://gametechmods.com/forums/downloads/?sa=view;down=406

Some IRL bots suffer from poor wedges, which can lead to an ineffective bot, which can lead to very boring matches. This component is meant to help that by allowing DSL-S style skirt wedges without the hideous aesthetics.

It is identical to the regular 40cm polycarbonate skirt except it's invisible. Press F12 to view it when you're attaching it.

Install guide: Open the .zip file and move the folder within into your DSL's base folder.

I like the extender frame + poly panels concept, but I don't think your execution on this particular bot is great. If you're using a lot of poly I think you can't have much negative space inside your bot, else it just looks wrong and empty. I like the general shape of the bot and I think the axe variant looks good, I like how you implemented the weapon.

btw if you want to make extenderbots, most people use a tiny pixel-sized chassis inside an anchor, and everything is built off that anchor so there isn't really a chassis there at all. Not sure if you were aware of that (since you don't see many people making extender frames around a traditional chassis), if not I can send you the pixel chassis if you want.

You nailed the colours. Only thing I can think of is maybe a white-collar "tail" to hold the axe head? Love it!

I still have 2 of those Chaos 2 pullbacks, and one has both of it's wheels still! I think I had the razer one at some point too.

Neat, reminds me a little of that chinese flipper from KoB S1. How does the single VDMA do in battles, is it powerful enough? I really like how it widens as you go down the wedge.

Tip for removing the green tinge from the polycarb panels; you can select the greenish bits in paint.net using the magic wand tool at a lower tolerance, and re-use color reaper at a lower tolerance, as it will only apply to your selection (in this case the green bits).

Is this gonna stay in signups as-is until places are filled, or will there be an opportunity to submit a 2nd bot (or will signups be cut short)?

Glad I could help :)

I'm a sucker for bots like this, where the internals are compact and you can see them though poly panels. Reminds me of my Scout remake

As for advice, maybe BFE the panels slightly so they line up? The top panel is overlapping on the left and not reaching quite far enough on the right. If you don't know how to BFE, Craig made a great guide. You'll want to change the XYZ location. 0.1 is exactly the same as a 10cm extender :)

Idea to make the armour plates a bit more versatile. How about adding a thin triangle component that could be added to the sides of wedges that could allow them to curve? Like, a 10 degree curve per triangle and you can chain them together to make it curve more. That way we could make our own scoops and have wedges that also curve into wheelguards.

This sounds like a good idea
Great idea. The only issue I can think off would be that chaining together a ton of 10 degree parts would make a weak scoop/wheelguard while also making the bot really crash-prone. If this were to be implemented, I think the current extender approach of variants of the component with varying angles would be the most appropriate.

Idea: make it bigger :dumb)

It's a real nice looking bot but aesthetically it looks like it belongs around the MW class, not HW.
