As in bots to test against? There's hardly anything to test against in DSL2.2, since basically everyone moved to IRL or Ironforge. 2.1 bots should have just as good wedges as before, so whatever had good wedges back then will be your best bet to test against.
As far as wedge design goes, basically nothing has changed. The only thing I can think of is maybe you left before we realised that only the centre AP of the skirt hinge is actually wedgy. So don't use either of the outer APs for wedges. Skirts + hinges are still king as far as I know.

I love the wedge and the aesthetics of the drum. Shame that the drum won't do anything, since the beaters don't extend past the outer discs. Also not a huge fan of the perm just chilling at the back there. These are minor nitpicks though, it's a beauty overall. Seriously, I love the wedge!

Very odd, it seems to be crashing any time it needs to write data to your hard drive. Do you have the game installed on an external drive, or in a protected Windows system folder or something? Maybe try running the game with admin privileges, it can't hurt.

LW, I guess. Wish I could find the weight for some more motor support but whatever.

Just wanna say that the way batteries work now in 2.2 is totally different from 2.1 so you might wanna rework what you are currently running, ant batteries are pretty ass now.
cool so if someone could just send me a Google doc with all the meta changes in the last five years that'd be great
-Batteries behave like actual batteries, how long a battery's gonna last is detailed in it's description. -Razors aren't OP any more, pretty much every weapon's balanced now (Except pre-made discs such as the Mechavore Disc which are ridiculously OP) -Wheels are balanced now, sorta? Again, the details are in the item's description. Like weapons, you generally pick which one is best suited for the job.
That first bot's pretty okay, just change the ant batteries for a WP836E (black battery), to save 4 KG's and properly power your bot, and trade that old-school BSG for a new-school VDMA, for much more oomph in your attack. Then all you need to do is shave 0.3KG's from somewhere to keep it in the weight limit, which you could easily do by swapping the tite extenders for alu.
To expand on this, replica components are the most OP. The most egregious examples are large typhoon teeth, the frenzy hammer and the large mechavore disc. Sometimes you'll see a whirl-whep disc as a counter to mechvore spinners, since it deweapons a large mechavore disc 1v1. The above weapons are really the only ones I've seen used 'competitively' in 2.2. The two exceptions would be spike strips, which seem to be the popup weapon of choice now, and I think spamming ant saws isn't terrible maybe idk. Also, there's a weapon rebalance patch that's been floating around for a while, which as far as I know but brings the replica components in line with everything else.

Lovely looking bot all around. Maybe not the colour scheme I would go with but that's just me :P

My only complaint would be that the disc teeth seem a bit glued on, rather than part of the disc. Lovely bot overall though, I've always been a sucker for VS with huge-ass discs.

MNB is hitting the nail on the head IMO GTM is now far larger than just supporting Ra2 content, whilst it may be primarily focused on it. Staff are looking for every way to appeal to more and more people outside it. This isn't 2011 anymore dude.
This is plain wrong. Almost all the activity on GTM (the forum) is tournament threads and the occasional camwhore thread post. GTM has it's niche and trying to expand to become a general-purpose robotics forum, when that role has already been filled by multiple other sites/communities, will hurt the site more than help. If you do want to expand GTM, the first point of contact is the forum. The only way to get to the discord without a direct invite is through the forum. If you really do want to expand GTM, you have to expand the forum userbase, and nobody's going to want to use a dead forum that's mostly used for archiving tournament signups/SBVs. Discord activity has taken all/nearly all the non-tournament content away from the forum.

Maybe try downloading a fresh copy of stock from here? If all else fails you could rename your stock game's UI folder and copy over the UI folder from your DSL install. It's certainly not an issue with RA2 itself (as DSL is working) so it must be an issue with a config or UI file.

So you say new members should stay away from the discord but instead stay on the forum that doesn't offer them anything? I don't pay too much attention to the gtm discord so I don't know what exactly is going on there. I can see some new members acting really newbish and I sometimes sit in front of the screen and shake my head but I try to stay silent most of the time and keep a neutral point of view towards em. It can be annoying and it's easy to make fun of them but if the forum is kinda dead why don't we/you try to take the new members and properly introduce them to the forum and help them out? Some of them may only stay for a few days or weeks but there can always be one guy that has the potential to turn everything around to create the next big thing.
I'm saying that the issue is the movement of content away from the forum and onto the discord (for a plethora of reasons, this being one), not that the discord isn't a hugbox.

Nah ram plates are the real spinner food. A razor rack deals much more damage and can take out tribars if it can properly pin a spinner.
My only suggestion is to ditch the blades and make the chassis wedge shallower and rotate the snappers so they're hidden beneath the wheels.
Whats the benefit of having a shallower chassis though?
In addition to what pwn said, less damage from spinners, and less likely to be pushed away from the spinner.

The discord isn't the place for new users and it never has been. The issue with this is that so much of the community activity has moved away from the forum and onto the discord, devaluing the forum. Without the discord, GTM seems a bit dead outside of tournament SBV threads. I've seen a nice uptick in showcase posts lately but the trend is that showcases, especially those outside of IRL building, are being basically abandoned. I think showcase activity is important for bringing new members into the community and encouraging them to build and improve.
Part of the reason that the discord gained popularity is because the playground was removed and the site censored (limitations that the discord at the time didn't have). Doing the same to the discord will just kill the discord.

Hi there, welcome to GTM! Try replacing the ra2.cfg in your game folder with the version I've attached to this post. If that doesn't work, try changing the line 'fullscreen=1' to 'fullscreen=0'. You might also want to try changing the scaling settings for your GPU to none or aspect ration, instead of fullscreen. This will stop your GPU from stretching the 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio to fill your 21:9 monitor.

I mean 10 minutes to learn, you can knock out AI on one bot in 30 seconds with some luck
639
« on: May 22, 2018, 11:12:46 AM »
Also, is it required to have a bot for each game?
Nope :)

Just learn to AI kid, it's really incredibly easy. It takes 10 minutes to learn tops.
