Robot Rumble 2.0 / Re: Robot Rumble 2.0 - Robot Combat Simulator - Under Development« on: December 26, 2019, 04:53:39 AM »I'm hoping to ramp up development in 2020 and bring on a few more people to the official dev team. It would be great to get things into a beta state by the end of 2020. Would it be possible for us to contribute by, for example, submitting ideas or designs for house robots? Idk how many pre-built robots you want to have in the finished game, but more is always better, and across a wide range of weapon types and weight classes. Mind you, maybe it's too early to be thinking about stuff like that, considering the number of breaking changes that keep getting introduced... 64
Robot Rumble 2.0 / Re: Robot Rumble 2.0 - Robot Combat Simulator - Under Development« on: December 25, 2019, 02:28:39 AM »A thing we have been talking about on discord. There should be a function to fuse all the smaller part as a one part. Atleast on weapons only. The issue is that some amazing looking bots are made out of a lot of smaller pieces, including the weapon. Now evrn on 20%damage, they all fall off too easily because they mostly have less than steel 5 on them, and that can be a problemooh, yes please! Maybe add holes too? At the very least, some sort of "tube" shape would be nice, with a hole already in it. That way, we can construct hollowed-out flywheels and the outer ring can be one smooth, solid piece, instead of a bunch of smaller pieces that don't quite form a perfect circle. 65

Hey, you know the turntable in the Robot Workshop? I think this was mentioned before, but its rotation speed is tied to the frame rate, right? Could you change that and make the speed constant? It was nice and slow on my old laptop, and on my brand-new rig it's comically fast. I'll have to see if I can get a recording.

Damn, that looks awesome. Hopefully once my new PC is up and running I'll be able to develop bots that look as good as these.

Try lowering the RPM by using either lower gearing or smaller wheels. Fait Accompli is 6WD direct-drive and it's fast, but still controllable.

I like this idea of a class between HW and SHW, I know from discussions on the Discord that people have trouble hitting the SHW limit. I'll see if I can come up with something for this.

Game Development / Re: Alternative Arena: Design to Destroy« on: December 05, 2019, 02:14:48 PM »Look, this all looks promising, but i have seen that you have been spending money, and a big ammount of it. Inless you have some big marketing plans, i hardly see yiu gaining huge profit from it. I'd hardly say that 1000 euros on the development and assets, and 500 euros on professional music software for music recording is a "big amount" of money when it comes to game development, tbh. 72

Decided to go away, have a re-think, and build an entirely new axebot from scratch. This was the result:
I'm not sure about some of the design choices, but it feels good to be experimenting again instead of rebuilding the same robots over and over. 74

Now it's starting to look like a proper video game. That chassis builder looks impressive. Automation is one of my favourite early-access games and I love their dev-blog videos, so definitely go down that route if you can.

Essentially, there's a new game in development called Robot Rumble 2 that looks very promising, DSL-IRL has a metric ton of packs to make the bots look nicer (collected together here), and every other meta is dead.

I can see several areas for improvement, especially since you have 60kg left over. In order of priority:

I am now officially Out Of Ideas™️
I probably should've built this 18 months ago, but never mind. Just an experiment to see how a 2016 design holds up in almost-2020. Judging from Badger's comments in the Discord, the answer is "not very well", apparently |
