You need to make the component(s) attached to the burst motor heavier. Strong burst + light flipper kinda breaks the physics of the game. Firestorm had this problem in DSL 2.1 IIRC. 345
DSL TC Showcases / Re: Redalert's rare DSL builds and WS« on: February 01, 2019, 12:19:59 PM »That's correct. Whenever the bot rolls into battle, the invincible panels are gone. In that sense, it's like an IRL bot because there are no collision meshes. It looks real. The panels have no visual meshes, however they retain their collision meshes, which is exactly why they make the bot 'invincible' and also why the bot is not IRL legal. Invisible, invincible discs do not exist in the real world :P 346

I'm a big fan of the ELBITE arena. It's the most balanced arena for all bot types in my experience

Protip for making splashes for bots with hinged parts: Pausing, going into the test lab then going back means the stuff on the hinge is usually in a more natural spot
Scary Monster is my favourite bot here, it's such a nice build. 349

If nobody else steps up I'm happy to host the DSL-S section, or at least help with AI-ing or editing if need be

If you open the .bot file you might be able to find it by searching (ctrl + f) for "Burst". For example in the image below, I found that my robot Reptilium uses pneuburst1.txt for its hammer. Note that skirt hinges are also counted as burst motors so keep that in mind while searching through the .bot file.

Site News and Feedback / Re: What would you like to see from GTM.« on: January 18, 2019, 06:21:41 AM »
I think geice and I share a similar viewpoint on this. I've been talking from the perspective of the GTM community. The site itself will obviously be fine as a download hub/video archive while RA2 is still a thing. I'm just lamenting the loss of the people, ya know? And I think more people will leave the GTM community, and they'll leave quicker than they can be replaced in terms of value to the community. The playerbase of RA2 is and will continue to become more atomised into more focused little groups with their own discords, and that will lead to people interacting with GTM less and less, except to use it as an archive for tournament threads maybe.

Maybe gloomy blogposting won't help either. I just wanted to type out my feelings on where I think the community is headed. I'm not trying to pose as an edgy nihilistic kid for cool points.I'd like the site to not take 30 seconds to load any page when I'm logged in on my desktop. It's basically stopped me from checking the forums.Have you considered leaving if there's so little left in the site for you? 354

Real talk though, the community is past the point of no return I'm pretty sure. Most/all of the 'pillars' of the community are gone, RA2 content has slowed to a crawl and non-IRL stuff has been nonexistent for months. There's no reason for anyone to come to GTM anymore. The discord has beyond sh**ty memes and the very occasional "here's a screenshot of my 700th IRL drumbot/flipper", and the forums have... I don't even know. Download links I guess. Maybe an IRL tournament every now and then, but even most of those are hosted off site nowadays, plus no real incentive to host means that I think tournament content on the forums will become more and more rare as fewer people can be arsed with putting in the effort. It's nice that Kill finally giving up seems to have been a wake up call, but really you're months, maybe over a year or more too late. Too many important community members have moved on. The only way I see GTM not completely going out with a whimper in the future is if cjbruce's game launches and creates an influx of new members, but that's a massive longshot in multiple ways. Thanks for everything GTM, but I think your time has come. 356
Robot Rumble 2.0 / Re: Robot Rumble 2.0 - Robot Combat Simulator - Under Development« on: December 31, 2018, 07:35:03 AM »
I think given the choice of one over the other, the game should definitely enforce a no-clipping rule, no doubt. It adds challenge to the game and is logical, first time/new players would probably get confused if the game let you put stuff anywhere at all, not to mention that it would make the game seem unpolished to the new player, I think. However it would be nice to have a noclip mode where we can place components wherever, maybe hidden being a cheat(bot2)/konami code or something. To ensure that people can't cheat with tournament entries or whatever, I think that enabling such a mode for a bot would have to add some sort of flag to the bot file to allow the user to see if the bot has been built 'legit' or not.

Beautiful. You might want to add 4 ballasts to that (which is legal in Ironforge) to make the chassis heavier, which should make it more stable and less likely to just spin the chassis instead of the weapon in certain situations.

Imagine repeatedly visiting/posting in a thread that you know is going to make you salty 🙄
Let the best multi on the site post all the weird bots he wants. He even keeps it contained in a single, easily ignorable thread for you. |
