FPS netcode is relatively simple. In very very basic terms, you only need the player position, what direction they're facing and their velocity (of course there are more factors, but I cba to list more. Its not extremely complex.) The game client can extrapolate almost all of the rest. Due to the physics engine in RA2, there are few things that can be extrapolated, so a vasy amount of information must be sent, including the position, connections, hp and velocity of EVERY component on each bot. And all this needs to be updated at least 16ish times per second.
Modern FPS with sophisticated lag compensation code starts to really struggle over 100 ping. 2988

Also scheduling. 2989

I can't see much from that picture. The burst motor for the hammer should technically be attached to the burst motor for the flipper, else idk if it counts. Also, vertical clamps don't start closed,

that's hilarious.
You might want to work on cropping your screenshots (pm me if you don't know how). Also try angling the extender holding the motor forward a bit, so the motor is ahead of the chassis. 2993
DSL TC Showcases / Re: Red's DSL of tomfoolery« on: April 10, 2016, 02:24:55 PM »Doesn't work for long bots, the timing has to be perfect and if it loses grip (which it will do because burst clamps in this style are weak AF) it can't re-clamp unless the immobility countdown timer starts and both bots move away from each other.Because, while that style of clamp is cool and what I think TRB is going for, it's impossible to achieve with an AI-controlled bot. 2994
DSL TC Showcases / Re: Red's DSL of tomfoolery« on: April 10, 2016, 01:13:34 PM »why does everyone think that a clamp has to be a vertical clamp a la complete control? are bots like tough as nails suddenly not clamps anymore? if those are the starting positions for the arms and the arms open up when fired then its a clamp.Because, while that style of clamp is cool and what I think TRB is going for, it's impossible to achieve with an AI-controlled bot. TRB, I just posted the type of clamp these people are asking for in my ironforge showcase. I can sent you the .bot file if you want to have a closer look or still don't understand how they work. 2995
Ironforge TC Showcases / Re: Badger does Ironforge (ex-TRB)« on: April 10, 2016, 01:09:09 PM »niceI could do, but it works fine as-is, I'm already tight on weight (armour is only PL3 and lighter wedges makes them average) and I wouldn't want to make it too top-heavy 2996
DSL TC Showcases / Re: Red's DSL of tomfoolery« on: April 10, 2016, 11:49:53 AM »
It's not really cheating if you showcase it.
You got loads of empty space in there, and not much protection from gutrippers. and you have more than 250kg for extra weapons/drive/wedges/protection. And it's not a clamp in the RA2 sense. Still a hammer. 2997

Ironforge TC Showcases / Re: Badger does Ironforge (ex-TRB)« on: April 10, 2016, 10:30:38 AM »![]() ![]() Pretty sure wedge effectiveness is tried to chassis shape in at least some capacity. I've made like 3 bots with this chassis and the wedges have been good with all of them, but with this bot it outwedges basically everything I throw at it, which is nice. 2999

Not only does it display a clamp, it shows how it works, and gives links to 4 or 5 clamp bots.I think I understand. Does anyone have a link to a clamp type bot, so I can see how a clamp works properly?Dude, that's a side hammer. If you want to know how a clamp works look at this page.I think I understand.
