115 (Cookie to whoever getrs the name/skin reference)
If it outwedges it just wins, straight up. Does so much damage. Not as stable as I'd like tho, and the wedges aren't far enough apart due to the chassis shape.

Go Play Ironforge (what I entered to ToT)
Named so because at the time of building I really was fed up with DSL, there just seemed to be a ton of filler compared to IF, I didn't like the battery system and everything was slower than IF. I think I kinda prefer DSL's battery system now tho. I built this so long ago I can't remember the armour, probably alu1 or pl3. Built from a modified 115 chassis IIRC, which isn't so great because the wedges aren't wide enough to beat U-shaped bots.

Looking pretty good, but how the drive is done scares me.  And I think it's based off an F1 car or something.

And I know this is a bit off topic, but ya might wanna put the thread up for your challenge (unless it's waiting for approval at this point).
Waiting for approval bro. It's got a pretty good turning speed, and it has 6 wheels, so them being exposed isn't a huge experience (in that testing I've done).

at that point why not just use imgur
Blocked in some networks. It's nicer to have everything hosted on the same site, it's sad to go on old showcases and all their images are gone because they hosted on photobucket.

Alright, they're not too bad for first bots, but of course there's a lot you can improve.

First, in DSL we use a building style called DSL-S. This means the bot basically can't break the laws of physics, i.e. no parts intersecting each other. The except if when a spike is going through an armour plate, for example. If we could cut a slot in that plate to let that spike through, it's cool. For example, this bot:
is DSL-S, even though those spike strips go through that front armour plate. Hopefully I didn't just confuse the hell out of you.

Next, the weight of your chassis is decided by it's surface area, so smaller chassis are usually better in DSL, where chassis armour is pretty crap. Sometimes for popups or other wedges bots we have U shaped chassis to maximise footprint (therefore stability) while minimising surface area, but you're building HS (horizontal spinners), so that's not really applicable. Often DSL HS' chassis are a tiny, armoured box which only holds the chassis and a couple baseplate anchors, and on those anchors are long extenders to which the drive motors and weapon motor is place. A good example would be this bot (not built by me):
Even though this bot isn't a HS, note the wide wheelbase, which makes it stable, and that the weapon motor is decent way outside the chassis, allowing the weapon to spin without intersecting anything inside the chassis.

I would also recommend you change to DSL2.2, since that is what basically everyone is building in these days.

So DSL 2.2 is a thing. Here's some old stuff I never put on here

TTF116 (cookie to whoever can figure out the skin and the name)
Drive system is of course far from the most efficient, but it's cool, nimble and super stable which helps a TON with head-on collisions. I should try this in IF where battery power is less of a premium, bursts are more powerful and stability is more important. Alu1, 4 of the long black batteries and an ant, 798.?kg. I don't think it'll last 3 minutes but it's a powerful popup, it wins or loses in the first minute anyway. Wedges are decent, need to test vs NAR AI bots tho.

Probs gonna cook up some more stuff, got a challenge w/ Boby and all I've made so far is popups which is kinda lame. I'll put my ToT bot on here when I can get teh DL link off RedAce, since I lost it when I wiped my laptop

The image uploader is a cool feature, but it's UX is pretty poor compared to alternatives like imgur. Would it be possible to have a drag+drop feature, and more importantly the ability to upload multiple images at once? Uploading say 3 images for a showcase is a pain in the ass and drives me to services like imgur or puush, which may delete the image after a certain amount of time or be blocked in certain networks.

It's using the Unity engine

Did some poking. I did not know much about unity. I assumed  it was like unreal where  you use different  physics engine extensions, but unity has its own physics engine
Unity uses PhysX and as far as I know it isn't difficult to switch to other physics systems and continue to use Unity.

For example, the Bullet Physics System, which is thought to be better by many can be easily implemented
Easy is relative. We're talking about no component collision box chassis devs here.

Let me tell you a story

This story starts at ?pm in the afternoon on monday night. I'm on my laptop (Dell XPS-12, this will be important later) and decide I'm bored of Windows 10. Twitch often lags and I'm not a massive fan of the interface. So I decide to install a linux distro.

First problem, this laptop has no CD drive. No problem though, I have a USB CD drive. Plug it in, burn a Lubuntu iso on (because Ubuntu is too mainstream amirite), reboot, mash F12, install Lubuntu. So after the lubuntu install completes without a hitch (full install, not dual-boot. Not enough room on this 120GB SSD), I load up Lubuntu. First problem, my earphones have a horrid, horrid static hissing noice whenever they're plugged in. Just loud enough that I genuinely can't ignore it and it gives me a headache after a couple hours. This is extremely odd as it appears to be dodgy hardware causing interference, but this never happened on my Windows install, so it can't be a hardware issue. So of course I go hunting online for solutions.

5 hours later, no solution. And one of the 'fixes' I had attempted had made all headphone audio come out of the speakers, even though everything was indicating that the sound was being sent through the headphone jack. I backtracked every attempted fix and reverted all my changes, but I couldn't fix this problem I caused for myself. At this point I knew I wasn't going to get this mess fixed, so I decided to burn Linux Mint onto the single 4.7GB DVD-RW that I had on hand and install that.

The issue persisted. I really enjoyed my short time with Linux Mint, I loved the desktop environment, everything was faster than Windows 10, from booting to loading programs to the number of tabs I can comfortably have open to the customisation. Unfortunately the headphone hissing wasn't something I was willing to compromise on, so it was back to Windows.

Now, I don't have a Windows 10 disc, nor a Windows 8 disc (which is what came pre-installed on this laptop. Eew.). However, I do have a Windows 7 disc. Now this disc is special or something, since I've used it for over 10 installs of W7 no problemo, and they always activate with Windows Genuine Advantage. However, the product code does NOT activate a Windows 10 install. The only way to get to a legit Windows 10 install is to upgrade from a W7 install. So I install W7, and here's where my real problems start.

First, W7 just didn't want to install. The setup kept asking for optical drive drivers, even though the setup program was loaded from an optical drive. All the solutions online suggested plugging in the USB you had the installation media on into another USB port. But I was using a USB-CD drive, and switching ports didn't fix it. I honestly can't remember how I fixed this, but it took me a while to figure out. Then, once Windows 7 was installed, the true horrors began.

You see, there are hardly any Windows 7 drivers available for this laptop, since it was released well into W8's lifecycle. So when I booted up, I had no wifi, no touchscreen, no brightness control and the 2 USB ports on the side of the laptop wouldn't work. So first thing I do is try to get the WiFi working. From there I can google and download my way out of the problem. So I find the wifi card model of the laptop via google and download the driver install for that onto my phone, and transfer them onto the PC via USB.. Except the USB ports don't work anymore.

So I go into device manager, and the touchscreen isn't even listed, there are warning signs next to half the devices and a ton of unknown devices. After about an hour of fruitless googling and messing around, I manage to convince W7 to use a generic driver for USB hubs on the USB controller. This allowed me to transfer files from my phone to the computer, thus install the drivers for my network card, giving me wifi. So, onto the USB ports.

I find out what model USB controller the laptop's motherboard uses, and go to download them from intel's website. Except when I try to run the driver, it gives me an error saying that my laptop doesn't meet the minimum requirements. What. I fiddle around with various things but cannot get these bloody drivers to install. At this point I should mention that I actually wanted to keep W7 if I could solve all these issues, since it booted in about half the time even the linux distros booted and I prefer the interface to W10. But at this point I resigned myself to defeat and decided to upgrade to Windows 10. That's when I realised that Windows Update had sh** itself.

Windows update had installed 2 updates and refused to find any more. It just infinitely searched for updates. The several methods of upgrading to Windows 10 I tried got stuck at 99% on one stage or another. Since upgrading directly from W7 wouldn't work, I went out and bought an 8GB USB drive (since all mine are 2GB) and used it as an installation drive. This got stuck too, but after a couple hours more fiddling, I managed to get it to work by disabling the network card and choosing to not install updates in the W10 setup.

So, 2 days later, I finally get back to W10. Such is life. **** intel/Dell for not releasing W7 compatible drivers for this laptop's hardware, I'm stuck with W8 or W10. Oh well, could be worse. I sincerely hope you didn't read this entire wall of text.

Would it be possible to give the player infinite repair time in tournaments Serge?

Maybe someone can make something like this when/if the game stops sucking.
We could give making gears a go. this engine may handle it better than havok(what physics engine is it, anyway). But my guess is the friction loss would make it very unusable. When I tried in RA2 motors were not strong enough to turn the gears I made.  survos kinda worked, but were slow and "rubbery".  Do motor axles stay on motors better in this game?
It's using the Unity engine

Yep, though the robot itself is more likely to do the spazzing (light compact chassis with Z-tek HPs doing flips on the spot, awkward collision detection/physics with some items on burst motors)

Really the motors don't turn fast enough to get in any trouble themselves.

We're testing a new build today that could be live for the community as soon as tomorrow. The next build will address some issues, but obviously it won't begin to address everything.

As for a publicized action plan, we've had a lot of meetings about it. Obviously there is a lot to figure out (and we had a holiday weekend here this last weekend), so we're trying to take our time and get it right. Obviously, no one will be happy if we rush things out.

To summarize, we're continuing to work on the goals we already had in place and we're figuring out the best way to react to all the feedback that's been offered up so far.
It's 1 update, we should be looking more at what direction it's going rather than the content of the patch, as I doubt many if any of the major issues will be fixed.
