Tournament Archives / Stock Boot Camp - SIGNUPS
« on: November 27, 2018, 11:49:55 PM »
right so i had this idea, see

the idea is that people don't play stock because dsl is the new hotness and they see stock as this super advanced meta where newbies can't break in because it takes too much effort

so my thought was, why doesnt someone do a stock tournament designed exclusively for stock rookies, to help them get started and improve as time goes on?

General Rules:
-Stock MW
-maximum of 32 entries, though the tournament will start with 16 if interest is low
-One entrant per person to start (more on that later)

Building rules:
-General stock rules apply.
-Your robot must weigh between 389.0 and 399.0 kg.
-Usage of BFE, AAM, Hax Mode, and CF (Including RO7 Break) are prohibited.
-Cheatbot2 parts are banned, with the exception of the Flamethrower.
-Robots must have two powered wheels minimum, and the robot must exhibit controlled movement.
-Multibots are allowed, provided they are of similar weight (no distraction bots)
-Modular robots are not allowed.
-Melty-brain style AI is not allowed.
-You can update your entry once and only once.
-Any attempt to find a "loophole" in these rules will get you barred from the tournament permanently.

Match Rules:
-2 minute time limit
-1v1 battles, best of 3
-Matches will take place in the GTMCS2 arena, likely reskinned
-If a match-altering havok explosion occurs, the match will be restarted, and a penalty will be given to the robot which most likely caused the havok. If a robot earns two penalties, it will be disqualified from the match.
-The bracket will be single elimination.

Entry limitations:
-This tournament is restricted to those who have little to no stock experience, or are still learning how to build stock efficiently. Experienced stock builders will be barred from entry.

The goal of this tournament is to help newcomers and inexperienced players learn how to play stock, and work to improve and become skilled in a new, relatively unexplored area of RA2, at least in this day and age.

When the tournament starts, each robot will have its internals posted alongside its outer skin, allowing more experienced builders to critique each robot and give the builders advice on how to make them better. Following the first tournament, a second signup phase will open, allowing builders to go back, improve their robots, and also to let in any newcomers who missed the first signup phase. This will go for three rounds minimum.

I hope this has a positive reception, because I think a lot of people pass off stock as "something they can never do" despite all the skilled builders this forum really has. This is a chance to unlock some new, untapped potential! Go wild!

ENTRY LIST
1. FightingBotInformal
2. Sickle robotics
3. NeonCalypso
4. Redalert
5. Hoppin
6. Plerco
7. Schredel
8. mefex
9. deadgenocide
10. superbomb122
11. TCRR
12. Dreamcast

ok, a few things ive noticed over your last few bot dumps

*you should never be using a wheel other than shiny hubs or rubber wheels (slipperbottoms if you absolutely need to). fatboys and n-12s are just wasted weight.
*grey bulb needs more weaponry and less drive. 12 razors is nothing on a middleweight hs, and you're wasting weight on the extender work - you could use one anchor and a pair of round extenders for that same setup.
*your angled poker thing is overpowered i think, or at least you're using more weight on batteries than you should be. re-arrange things so you can stick a nifty in there and try to upgrade the drive too. redbirds kinda suck
*i like the idea behind the snowplow popup, and i think there's some potential behind it. re-shape the chassis to eliminate extra space, and maybe swap the two snappers with a ddt. do you have one black or two?
*i'm sure you can rotate the black 90 degrees on your hammer and fit the rads in the chassis, then use the weight (or some clever black extender use) to angle the plows out a little bit (like you have on the popup) to improve its trapping ability. if you have weight after that, try to sneak a caster on the front. the t connector is wasted weight as well, you could use a sideways black extender instead.
*insectoid clone is pretty decent, but i'm like 90% sure emergency wedges are generally worse than small wedges when it comes to getting under things, just because they have more surface area.

you're definitely coming along as a stock builder, but you have a ways to go still. keep at it dude!

you're definitely improving. rusty could use a better skin but it's a pretty solid looking spinner.

you could make this invertible pretty easily with bigger wheels. that should let you cut out the srimech and give you weight for external armor or maybe faster drive.

what's its weight?

congratulations its a brown wedge

you're doing a good job at minimizing chassis space, at least

give it an actual skin and make it pop! if you put in the effort to make this you should put in the effort to make it look good too

269
did you edit any values or did you just rename the txt and assumed that'd make it faster

jeeeeeeeeeeeeez

270
what do you mean by "neither works"
do they crash the game?
you cant just overwrite the existing motors by making new txts so if thats your issue you need to actually use the new motors youve made

this robot is going to do zero damage

razors work because they dont have normals so driving over other bots does constant damage

pointy tips only do damage at the point, so unless youre planning on flipping sideways onto them its going to do nothing
