Discussion / Re: Robot Arena 2 Speedrun?
« on: January 16, 2017, 06:53:33 AM »
I've been watching speedruns for a while and I think I could conjure up some decent rules for a 100% category:

Stock, fresh install (i.e. no existing or importable bots in garage, stock AI, only team is the rookies, no cheaty AI or arenas, no RA2CF or 3rd party tools)
Timer starts when you click into the garage from the main menu, stops when you see the golden sawblade
You must win every tournament in your first season, any weightclass
Time includes building a bot
To be verified, runs must be recorded and uploaded to youtube or wherever

I think this would be interesting, as HW matches are faster, but it's a lot quicker to build a LW bot. It's also faster to not build to the weight limit. Presumably a popup would be the bot of choice, but who knows. aybe skipping bot building altogether and using one of the rookie bots would be fastest. The KOTH tournaments would be interesting.

I'm guessing Asbestosstar's bot is based on Trump.
Half-right

General Support / Re: Does anybody know how to increase the team limit?
« on: January 15, 2017, 04:30:40 PM »
Rename your teams folder to something else, then drag the teams folder from a stock zip into your game folder. You have all your teams slots back and all your old bots are saved in the renamed folder.

I don't think that there's a way to increase the no. of allowed teams in a single folder.

Still a 'lil offtopic, but I'm always up to help record some matches. I know that I'm not the most upstanding member but if there's one thing I'm good at its pumping out tournament vids

For example, skirt hinge wedges are usually not allowed for "IRL" bots (which is the bot type it looks like you're making), and the disc on robbie botten goes through the front drive motors, which is also not allowed.

I need to repeat this, but people, stop pushing newcomers in building styles so damn early.

She has the basic techniques down. Now she must learn how to build well before being bothered with IRL or DSL-S.
Come on, Nary. DSL-S is dead for 2.2 and I think it's pretty obvious she's going for an IRL style, with CF useage.
People can play any way they want. If this includes making a bot with 20 flair hammers on stock (which I don't advice), they can do that.
Of course, I'm not debating that. I don't want to spam the thread further, I'm just saying that it's pretty safe to assume the metagame that we're dealing with here.

It is based off of 2 celebrityes but you must look at it yourself
Welp, Asbestosstar just tried to submit a bot to me. He failed horribly tbh.

So Asbestosstar doesn't spam me, will somebody host this please?
eh, sure

Hey, welcome to GTM! These bots look decent for a beginner, but of course there is room for improvement

For example, skirt hinge wedges are usually not allowed for "IRL" bots (which is the bot type it looks like you're making), and the disc on robbie botten goes through the front drive motors, which is also not allowed. You seem to have the basics down, though. Good to see a newbie use their chassis space well and have the right amount of batteries (mostly).

Can it change to Bo3 matches? They're more hype.
This has been pretty much abandoned, sorry. Maybe if it gets some renewed interest I'll continue it after bittybots.

Discussion / Re: Portable RA2

Ctrl and Shift, Badger. I think it would be hard to build a robot when you can't raise or rotate components.
Again, you can rebind the buttons

Discussion / Re: Portable RA2
« on: January 11, 2017, 07:10:16 AM »
Portable RA2 would be great but its a 13 year old game or older and Laptops are pretty much the only way you can take RA2 on the go as they can run it, Tablets might but they have low memory space and might no be able to handle it. BUT there is a Gaming Tablets so who knows
I doubt tablets will work unless they have a inbuilt keyboard, and even then if your going to play ra2 on a tablet with a keyboard. And at that point, just use a laptop I'd say.

portable ra2 would be miserable
+1 this isn't really worth it. you want portable ra2? sorry, laptop or nothing. RA2 was never built for pure controller support, only for occasional joystick/controller use in bot wiring. that's it. not worth it imo.
Oh boohoo, can't we have our own fun?
Yes, if you wish to for some reason. I'm simply stating the fact that's RA2 will be terrible  for controllers. And it seems like it would be hard to get the game on or off the system, and it's ultimately not worth it in my opinion.
I can imagine the Steam controller being useable, since it's not too dissimilar to a trackpad and RA2 is playable on a trackpad.

I suppose. But what about the keyboard? If you have a keyboard you may as well just use a trackpad and at that point you're over complicating playing ra2.
You cab rebind the buttons to keys. What keys do you need excepat del and maybe pause anyway?
