I meant to bump this earlier, but just a quick reminder that this starts TOMORROW! Day 1's theme is "Jewelry" - start planning out your ideas!

Showcases / Re: Post Your RR2 Bots« on: September 28, 2019, 02:02:45 PM »
They do in DSL-IRL, so I don't see why they wouldn't in RR2. There's generally a limit as to how many interchangeable versions you can have, though.

haha long boi
Seriously, though, that's a pretty unique design. Long, narrow, and with a nice big bar. Needs a custom skin but it's pretty good for a first effort. What's the weapon motor? 125

Game Development / Re: Alternative Arena: Design to Destroy« on: September 21, 2019, 03:12:13 PM »
That arena's looking nice, as is the sawblade. The big spiky ramming plate gives me an arcade-style feel, it's not the kind of thing you'd see on a real-world combat robot but exactly the sort of thing that looks cool in video game form.

Watch this. ...I'm gonna need to gear this thing down. Every time I hit something it spins helplessly in circles for a few seconds while the weapon spins back up. 128

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: BOTM and Challenge Belt Feedback« on: September 15, 2019, 12:26:01 PM »
BOTM is fine, apart from the increasing schedule slippage where whoever's in charge of making the threads keeps forgetting. I think there was one month that got missed entirely. So it just needs to be a little better organised.
As for Challenge Belt, I don't even know what the current format is. Is it still just a matter of putting yourself forward as a challenger and waiting your turn? 130

You could make a robot with a pneumatic spike that resembles a slingshot, or a robot with an axe that resembles a catapult, or a Doctor Strange-themed ring spinner called "Sling Ring", or... 131
Robot Rumble 2.0 / Re: Robot Rumble 2.0 - Robot Combat Simulator - Under Development« on: September 15, 2019, 09:47:30 AM »-A few more shapes for use in Extra's & Weapons - mainly a ring and Taurus (to create wheel tyres) and maybe some letters?Yes to the ring and torus, but a hard no on the letters. I've been playing Automation for a few years, and when you put make/model names on the back of your car, you have to manually position each letter and try and get the sizes and spacings exactly right, and it's a colossal pain in the ass. I'd much prefer the ability to position a text box on one of the robot's faces and then type in the text. Much easier. 132

(First off: I'm not sure if this is the right section. If it isn't, feel free to move it.)
Last year, I set myself a personal challenge that I dubbed "Botober": build a brand new DSL-IRL bot every day for the whole of October, using the official Inktober 2018 prompts as inspiration. I unfortunately burned out and stopped about midway through, but the idea proved popular and - to my surprise - a couple of other people actually joined in. So this year, I've decided to open Botober up, and organise it into a proper event that anyone can enter. My intention is for this thread is to act as a central hub, where people can declare their intent to enter, provide feedback, and (once October starts) post their bots. === HOW IT WORKS ===

Site News and Feedback / Re: Open Admin Postions« on: September 12, 2019, 03:56:48 PM »What sort of time commitments are involved? This is what I meant by "I dunno how much attention you guys were paying", I just worded it horribly. I have an hour in the morning, an hour at lunch, 3 hours or so at night, and all day Saturday and Sunday. If that's enough time in which to admin the site, then I can at least give it a go. It doesn't seem like much needs doing around here, but obviously I'm not privy to everything going on behind the scenes. 134
Site News and Feedback / Re: Open Admin Postions« on: September 12, 2019, 06:38:07 AM »
I'm honestly tempted, but work keeps me busy for 12 hours a day and I don't know whether I'd be able to pay the site enough attention.

DSL TC Showcases / Re: KupaTec DSL Designs« on: September 10, 2019, 02:54:39 AM »
I'll concur with the others, and also suggest adding extra beaters to the drum so they properly stretch from edge to edge. It would look better (IMO), and be more effective. You might have to strip some of the armour layers off, or downgrade them, to save enough weight. If so, then start with the back armour; apart from Parsec matches or melees, nobody's ever going to hit you there.
I'm also not too sure if it counts as IRL legal due to the batteries and tops of the drive motors being in extenders.[/center] Extenders clipping through things is *generally* fine, because IRL you could just cut holes or slots in the extenders. There are exceptions, but in terms of what you've done, you should be okay. 136
DSL TC Showcases / Re: KupaTec DSL Designs« on: September 09, 2019, 07:55:32 AM »
Welcome to GTM! You're off to a very good start. Midknight looks really clean and well-built, and I look forward to potentially seeing it in a tournament. I also agree with Badger about the theming, it's a pretty neat touch.
Just out of curiosity, how long have you been building in DSL? I get the impression you've been practicing for a while now before making this thread. 138
Showcases / Re: Post Your RR2 Bots« on: September 07, 2019, 05:00:58 PM »I've finally built a bot I'm happy with that isn't immune to damage on the placeholder model. I really want to enter her in parsec tournaments or something, but I have a bug where every bot I've built in the current build is immune to elimination by pits and ring-outs, so I don't know if she'd be allowed. D: Whoa... that's amazing! Good idea for how to build hollow discs, I should definitely try that sometime. 139
Robot Rumble 2.0 / Re: Robot Rumble 2.0 - Robot Combat Simulator - Under Development« on: September 07, 2019, 10:11:06 AM »Talking about the pit floor though - I have found that when AI bots drive over the closed pit, they then take to driving in endless circles like they've lost all other bots and dunno where to go? It's not until I push them away off of it that they go back to fighting normally. This sounds like an issue with hazard detection/avoidance. They might be treating the closed pit as a hazard area, and then panicking once they're on top of it, because they know to avoid hazard areas but don't know what to do when inside one...? Idk, just spitballing. Certainly needs to be looked into. 140
DSL TC Showcases / Re: Kelimpel's horrifying bots« on: August 30, 2019, 12:59:24 AM »
That's not IRL. The tribar is clipping through whatever those light blue extenders are sticking out of the top.
