real facts
« on: October 31, 2019, 06:58:59 PM »
flat motors are cancer and are partially responsible for why verts are so strong. it's far too easy to build a dual vert with no compromises compared to perms/eteks.

top hinges are also cancer and are far more powerful than their burst motors suggest

thanks for listening to my ted talk. feel free to argue in the comments

so a few thoughts on some of the suggestions for the flat:

- banning the flat outright would obviously be the ideal solution, but its far too much of a crutch for a lot of people to agree with

- i also don't think people will accept a weight increase as it would push some of their bots over the weight-limit

- yes i realize this would also affect things like drums and lower weight spinners (**** them tbh)

- a statistical nerf would probably be the best way forwards with how dependent the community is on it.  i've tried various bots (eom, rorscach, etc) with various nerfed flat motors around piglet to twm levels, and while they are noticeably less damaging, they are by no means completely inept at fighting. it also encourages people to either use either stronger motors to self right, or have a dedicated srimech as the motors usually aren't strong enough for bots to crawl around on their disks

- while i do think some of the weapon motors could use some tweaking, unless you buff all of them to the point where the meta is even more ****ed up, i don't think that buffing the other motors would reduce flatmotor usage. the flat would still probably remain the top choice for gutrippers due to its weight, size, and hp, as well as that more powerful motors really wouldn't be worth it for them unless they're absurdly powerful. ofc banning the flat would solve this, but i don't think that's something that's possible rn. also, i dont think 2.2 component and chassis hp is adequate for stronger motors, but that's for another discussion

- personally at this point i would be fine with outright banning the flatmotor, but i recongize that its gonna be a long slow process and that not everyone wants to go the full distance

feel free to agree or disagree, you do you

I don't see the sense in banning the flatmotor when its issues are easily fixed with a quick nerf. A stats nerf to between the piglet and TWMR seems like a good solution (may as well make it a non-CB2 component while we're at it). This would make the piglet obsolete (like it isn't already) so I think the weight of that should be decreased to below that of the flat to compensate if we've decided to not increase the flat's weight.

Another solution would be as above, but create a new flatmotor version with increased weight and nerfed power (between piglet and twmr), with the old version being hidden as a compatibility version, only allowed to be used on pre-nerf bots. Maybe colour it differently so it's easy for hosts to check if people are cheating with it. This would make more sense purely in balance terms as the flatmotor is larger than the piglet, so it doesn't really make sense for it to be lighter or weaker.
also lol at most toxic guy around calling others out on this sh**

Even though I own a robot abusive of this, I support the ban of the flatmotor, maybe we could buff other motors while we're at it or allow other CB2 motors like the Moe motor
um ackshually I did not crap my pants

in regards to buffing motors, most of the current motors aren't capable of hitting their actual max speeds with anything besides small vert setups. as such, I wouldn't increase the max speed, if anything, I would drop it on things like perms as a trade off for more torque. in theory it would make wedgeless spinners like offset hs and nightmare style vs slightly more useable (although you can argue if this is a good thing), while also nerfing gutripper spin speed.

tbh though, i wouldn't bother for now. at least not until we can agree on a flat change

and yes I know that means you could use some of them as drive motors, but tbh they're always going to be less efficient than npc fasts with 48 torque

What if you forced flatmotor bots to be lighter, kinda like how walkers are allowed to be heavier. It’d just be the other side of the spectrum.
