Editing arenas
« on: August 29, 2008, 03:43:29 PM »
Hi anyone, im new to this.
Could someone tell me hoe to edit an arena?
Basically, i want to add some hazards to the RA2TT arena for Wild Robots.
I want to add a pit, floor flipper and hammer.
But i dont have a ruddy clue how to do it!
So can someone tell me how to add these, and if they do it will be greatly appriciated!
And i have another favour, because i cant make an arena, could anyone make a Roaming Robots arena for me?
Its for my Roaming Robots AI pack that im making.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!
Thanks
Whamett
Damn I should probably put something fancy in this bit huh?

You should start a showcase, to help you with your building so that way the pack is more challenging.

Edit: Sorry, but I have no clue at editing arenas.
I built that big robot on that TV show that time

It is not easy at all. There are 2 ways to make an arena:
1. use 3dstudio max version 4.2 or 5. I heard rumors of being able to in version 8 but I never saw it done.

2. use a text edetor like notepad++ and  manually edit values.

to edit an existing arena you will need to use option #2, or somehow get the .max file.

I need to point out that in the history of ra2 there have only been 9 people that have made a new arena:
Darkrat
Lu-tze
AW
goose(me)
HackerX
Clickbeetle
Firebeetle
dummy(dumbstan)
Slider
sippin' on my Honeydew bubble tea.
party in my tummy. yummy, yummy.

Hey, goose, if its not to much trouble, could you make me a new Wild Robots arena?
If you could, that would be great!
I would like the arena to look a little something like this:

The Blue and Red squres would be starting points, and the other two SP would be where the greed dots are.
The yellow circle would be a pit realease, but if its to hard, ill just have a open top pit.
The diagonal rectangle would be a floor flipper and the red hammer looking thing would be, a hammer!
The grey walls around the arena would contain the crowd, and the OOTA part i want to be the same level as the arena platform.
I would REALLY love it if i had it!
But, if anyone looking for a arena idea, (and yes, i know ive mentioned this before!) a RR arena would be a good place to battle!
But the Wild Robots Arena 2 would be even better!
Goose, if you could do it for me, that would be fantastic, thanks!

W-nut, Goose just explained that it is allot of work.
Your aspirations are really cool to see, so why don't you learn the basics and take off from there... It is not too difficult to understand, just takes some time. But it is significant work to build an arena.

As far as your request to Goose, he can answer for himself.

What? I'd like to know how they are made? Do you manually code in where parts can collide? How do you add hammers?

sorry mad, ive been away for awhile. props to you.
on the the list of people I am the only one that is "somewhat" still part of the community. I really don't play the game much any more.   Sadly I barely have enough time to sleep.

One of the most difficult tasks is finding 3d studio max 4 or 5. both the legal and illegal routes are now difficult.  So even if I were to make a tutorial Im not sure how god it would be.

Clickbeetle did make a tutorial on how to make a component using notepad++. I would highly suggest starting there.  The basic concept is the same as it is for making arenas.

Well perhaps you could find your match in the DSL arenas...

They should work for stock RA2. Just take the Arenas folder in a DSL version (or download DSL) and overwrite in your stock Arena folder. Make sure they're all here (don't lose some in the process).

I'm not sure about this, so make a backup of the Stock RA2 Arena folder in case it crashes the game.
