How do I make an AI Pack?
« on: January 01, 2010, 07:02:11 PM »
I figured i would for the heck of it make a bot pack since tons of other people were, it will include stock rebuilds of all the teams exept for the scrappers and Riot, the thing abot the pack that is different is the teams will be wired with controls that have switches for the drive, instead of analog, so they will be continues ramers/ SnS it will have rebuilds of as said above + 10 new teams made by me + guests. What i want for the teams is five made by pros such as at the level of ACAMS and five newbie teams at my level, if you want to enter a team tell me and i'll add more info, right now I'm only looking for LW MW HW

General rule of thumb is there are so many AI packs out now unless you are doing something radically different you shouldn't start one. Also, do you even know how to AI? That is a requirement as well.

For somebody who hates LRA2 so much, you sure are following in his footsteps.

how? do want me to start talking like: me is starting pack of AI? thats how he talks and yes i know somewhat how to AI as I have experience with that from before i even had RA2, and if you read it TECHNICLEY it's NOT an AI pack, it's a bot pack with switch steering so they can be drivin and self drivin with simple changes

No. LRA2 made several attempts to make bot/ai packs that were shot down for the same reasons as this one.

I really dont actually see an issue with people making robot packs, etc ?

it will need more work towards what you already have but is it so wrong someone wants to share robots with others ?

You know nothing about LRA2.

Kill343 is just preventing you from setting yourself up for failure. We already have a pack where we rebuilt all of the stock AI bots. Unless you have more building talent than me and InfiniteInertia combined, don't do the same thing. Cause we made a lot of the rebuilds. As did people like R0b0sh4rk, among others.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

well the point was a just-4-fun thing, not really extremely serious and to make a pack of rebuilds of the AI in stock that is at newbie level, kinda the DSL AI for noobs

Strange, I've been thinking the same thing for over a week.

I highly doubt you can use switches for drive on an AI bot.

I see what you mean joe... but I think the thing that is problematic is that some of the new players just dive into this stuff waaaaaay too fast and spam up the board with billions of questions because they never took the time to learn the basics first. I like it when this forum is focused.  There was a time where 80 percent of posts around here were about each others bot showcases and we all commented and worked hard to improve as builders in preparation for future tourneys. I kinda miss those days.

When new players start talking about hosting tournaments and building AI packs after being around only a month or so... it just disrupts the board with questions that have been asked before.  All of the answers are already on the boards, people just need to read the threads.

It's stuff like this that pushed away members like Infinite and other vets.  I miss having them around, but I don't blame them for getting fed up with some of this.

Thank you for understanding, Sparkey. That's one thing LRA2 was never capable of.

Uploading it isn't hard, just use an extraction program(WinRAR as an example). Compress all of the pack's contents into a ZIP or RAR file, then upload to GTM's file uploader. You may have to use a different uploader to post it, such as Megaupload.
