Forced Creativity Challenge
« on: January 26, 2017, 09:14:02 AM »
Name TBA Design Challenge Tournament

DSL 2.2, Cruiserweight,  IRL

Ring arena. May try to lightly reskin, who knows.

4 heats of 4 bots each.  Round robin matches with 3 points awarded for ko, 2 for decision win, 1 for decision loss, 0 for getting ko'd or oota.
Winners of each heat then meet in the final, setup in the same style as the heats.

16 slots, one slot per person.
Each of the 16 bots will be based on one of the 16 bot types listed in the RioBotz Combot guide, so:
•   Rammer
•   Wedge
•   Lifter
•   Flipper/Launcher
•   Thwackbot
•   Overhead Thwackbot
•   Spearbot
•   Horizontal Spinner (they include ring, shell, and FBS here)
•   Vertical Spinners
•   Sawbot
•   Drumbot
•   Hammerbot
•   Clamper (control)
•   Crushers
•   Flamethrowers
•   Multibots

These could either be assigned at random or be challenges (i.e. one of the entrants is selected at random,  they then select another entrant to challenge to build in that style.  That builder then selects another person to challenge, and so on until all have been assigned a style.)

Since some of these build styles don’t work great on their own (wedge, etc) or are vague on weaponry (multis), these would just stand as design styles to emulate.  So a Wedgebot could have a flipper built in, but a wedge must be present.

Alternately, some classes like HS could be expanded to replace the weaker categories.  So Shell spinner could replace flamethrower, etc.

I thought of this as a way to be forced to try something new design wise.

CW was just thrown out there since Gulden is running IRL HW, Demon has MW, and Badger has LW.

An interesting idea, but I don't build IRL much.  Donno if I'd enter.

What Cheatbot2 components would be allowed if any?  The Vlad Burst and Overkill servo are ones I'd particularly like to see.

Well I've never really used any cheatbot2 parts besides a flatmotor so I'm open to any suggestions. The main aspect of this is looking cool anyway.

Overkill servo is definitely a must if overhead thwackbot is a category.

I'd join this. Wouldn't mind another CW tournament. The obvious problem is that some of these bots aren't as effective as others, and some are harder to build in RA2 than others. The person who gets HS stands much more of a chance than the person who gets spearbot, for instance. That's just my opinion, though. I'm not saying it's impossible to win a tournament with a spearbot or a wedge, it's just a lot harder than winning it with a Tombclone HS.

How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

DSL IRL
This doesn't add up.
>implying that Stock is any more creative lol
List of viable designs:
-HS
-Gutripper
Now the challenge here is to figure out whether I'm talking about stock or IRL.

Besides, IRL has more viable robot types, like ring spinners, FBS'es HS'es, VS'es, Drums, flippers...  and there may be more I am missing. IRL in 2.2 isn't just "muh mechavore discs", mate. I'd rather build in something where I can really make good robots and not be forcibly shackled to a specific set of robot types.

The only thing keeping those bot types viable is tournament hosts banning bots that are too good.  Apply that to any meta and you'll end up the same result.
DSL-IRL is the libtard’s meta. Go drink more soylent, retard! #BLUELIVESMATTER

Who are you quoting?

Besides, IRL has more viable robot types, like ring spinners, FBS'es HS'es, VS'es, Drums, flippers...
Most of those are still just HS (RS, FBS [idk what definition of "FBS" you're using here, but I'm assuming you mean shell spinners], HS) and gutrippers (most VS that aren't nightmare clones, drums). Flippers are only viable in arenas with lower walls, which are massively over-represented in tournaments.
Speaking of over-representation, the whole reason why self-aware tournaments like Dead Meta Derby and ironyforgy tournament have been cropping up are because there's so many IRL tournaments, causing creativity to decline until there's the same few designs in every tournament.

Just because you INB4 it doesn't mean I was going to say it. You seem to be pretty unhinged too, judging by the amount of 4chan-reject meme rage you put in your post.

To play off the complaints of generic bot types, as well as the mention of potluck:

What if the irl elements are watered down, and the price of admission is submitting a design idea challenge privately to me (as host or whoever).  These would then be randomly and privately redistributed.
