robo chalange does some rx, they seem a bit pricey, i do have an ar500 or something like that, is that any good? how does 4mm steel hold up to atacks bearing in mind i don't want to fight spinners yet.
i am a tad worried my feahterweight only weighs 3kg  so far, excluding batterys, wheels and speed control, and that i cost £5 to build from scratch- not "i had motors and batteries and armour lying around and all i bourght was some bolts" actualy from nothing.
You really need a spektrum, but you also need a compatible receiever with a failsafe for a FW, which are the bot recievers
Ideally you want hardox armour for a pusher, but if thats a bit too pricey, and you don't feel comfortable welding, thick HDPE should work just as well, if constructed properly (but it must be 20mm+)
And 3kg ain't a feather :P, up your drive motors ect and you should be making it fairly competitive :D

Yeah, and try not to use the cheapy £10 motors from B&Q :P
(False economy, the amount of money you will have to spend on replacements, you may have spent on better motors that don't break as often)

Most drill motors are alright, if you want to use cheapy ones then they do work OK,
Actually if you use the cooper mounts they seem to last actually, so you might want to try that before investing in dewalts or something

they are 14.4v drills the would cost £20 but i got them for free.
with the mounts, they seem quite expensive for what they are

Nice! With its appearance, I could imagine that competing in RW Series 2's gauntlet  :D

So a couple of questions/observations...

1. How fast does it go and hows the traction with those kind of wheels?

2. How do you plan to get under anything? I'm sorry but the wedge angle looks way to steep to really do much. If you have weight you could attach a thin piece of sheet metal maybe 1/16" Ti or 4130 to create a lip to aid in getting under stuff and pushing Typically the optimum angle for a wedge is >45o.

3. It does look like something out of RW and now that I think about it, it looks like Total Anarchy 2.5.

1. i dont know! i havent tried it yet, i will probably put 100mm robochalange wheels
2. no, i dont plan to get under anything, with smaller wheels it would make it less steep
3. dont get how that is a question.

it seems quite solid, i can drop it from my head height and it survives.

What kind of armor is that? If its a type of plastic, you could greatly increase its strength by chemically welding it together. As SKBT pointed out, that wedge seems awfully steep.

I don't think he's wanting you to get under anything, I just don't think he fancies anything getting under you instead. A small lip gives you an area to get underneath the machine so that you can better push them with the main face of the bot.

But it does have something of that early-Robot-Wars-UK look about it. Looks kinda retro. Nice.

YESSSSSSS, HDPE!!!! :D (Good armour choice)

But yeah, makethe wheels fit inside the chasis, make it lower, and put a nice shallow wedge on it, and you've got a nice first robot
Very good for a beginner

Yes, not bad at all, looks well constructed
Try to make it much lower, check annihilation from the Team Invade thread (I posted an updated version just yesterday)

We tend to get hardox off other roboteers :P

And 6mm is fine if you have the weight to use it (the stronger the better)

You can sometimes find Hardox on EBay. I don't know about this beig true in the UK but also check surplus stores and industrial suppliers.

Also there is no such thing as overkill in armor. Use the thickest stuff you can.
