DSL TC Showcases / Re: Nightravens Showcase of badly built bots
« on: July 09, 2018, 07:10:40 PM »
This is my new HW 793KG of dizzying fury using 2 PC545 batteries 2 NPC (fast) drive motors 2 reinforced perm 80 XXL weapon motors each with a solid 100cm disk with 2 ripping teeth each 2 casters and 2 slap happy wheels covered in 10mm aluminum. it can run invertable but slight unstable and can spin up while spinning its ripping disks each controlled with a separate switch to conserve battery life.

Looks great. Also, is this an IRL bot, Because if yes, you should enter it to a tournament (Orc's Wars Overclocked).

Also, just to clarify what FOTEPX said, DSL-S is unrealistic, and as he said before, focus more on competitiveness, with emphasis on making a bot as efficient as possible. IRL, on the other hand, is making a bot as close as to what is possible in real life

So, I will post more of my OWO entries. While I haven't made a screenshot for my AW, BW, and LW yet to showcase, I have one for my New Blood entry, OverChopper. You may remember this as the bot I asked for help in AI'ing on Discord. Now, it has gone through some changes. The curent version has a shrinked chassis compared to the first version, four magmotors, four hypnos, a 6mag, and a bar made of one 50x200 part (I think), two 50x50 parts, and two large typhoons. Armor is 5mm steel. Also, this bot's upgrade is when I used BFE for the first time, to lower the height of the chassis slightly in order to expose the shaft of the 6mag, and raise the bar a bit, as the unlowered chassis caused the bar to intersect with the chassis

The weaknesses of the bot first, is that since the forks at the front, which is comprised of alu extenders and steel wedges, is attached directly to the multi anchor, it is not flush to the ground, and thus. it doesn't have average wedging capability, though it is still capable of wedging. Second, since the tip of the bar is made of 50x50 and large typhoons, it is fragile and tend to break away when damaged, as i tested on Eye Stabber

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: New Member? Introduce Yourself!

Hey im Nightraven been watching robotic combat since jeremy clarkson and the boxes on wheels in robot wars UK series one. Played all the robot wars games i still have them on my laptop and recently been playing around with robot arena 2 but as online play doesnt exist anymore (from what i hear it never really did without crashing) i thought i would just look around see what i could find with AI matches and other builders sharing design and ideas
Do you have DSL? If yes, then you can join tournaments, seeing most tournaments are DSL. IRL is popular here, so you should download add ons like RA2CF, Sergepatcher, etc.

Also, Orc's Wars Extreme, a tournament, is in Signup now, so you should join it if you can

Well since signups are open now I might as well post my Orc's Wars Overclocked lineup here. Not including what events they're in so folks can't enter stuff specifically to counter them

They've all been posted in here before but I'll give each bot a quick rundown for those that may have missed them.

All of your bots are awesome

That's a neat looking bot. Instead of using the stock angles components, look into using square extenders and the new DSL2.2 angle components. They look better and give you a lot more flexibility
I'll keep that in mind.

Here's the next bot. Debra:

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]
Bio:
"One of the scariest flippers in Bot Wars, Debra is a strong, female bot with a strong, female team. She consistently KOs robots by launching them all the way across the arena and into oblivion. And with a zero ground clearance, only the deadliest of spinners can stand up to her and her thick steel armor. She has a rivalry with house robot Madame Mayhem."

Ironically, Debra in-game is armored in 5mm Titanium, but in the story, she's got steel armor. Based off my lego bot Debranator, they're basically the same thing. Only difference is that this RA2 version is untested in combat. It's just a model used for reference for when I draw comic panel strips of her.

Also, ignore the casters on the back of her launcher. That's just for stability. Not meant to be an IRL part.
Great 4 bar Flipper. And have you ever think of making a robot for competing in tournaments, because Orc's Wars Extreme will enter sign up tomorrow

Yeah, I agree with Olister. RW 2016 Arena, Robogames Arena, or Combat Arena are better

So, for Orc's Wars Extreme, I made several bots for the weightclass war, as well as the New Blood event and Wildcard Warriors. However, I am going to post a bot for the MW event here. It is named Di-trouble and it is armed with two counter rotating vertical discs. The armor is 5mm alu. Drive motors are regular NPC's, while weapon motors are two flatmotors.

There's a nice spread of bots in this, from some true gems to some awe-inspiringly putrid abominations. Looking forward to it overall. I strongly suspect Shelly, Swirly or Raus will win.
Abominations like what? Don't say it includes me, because to be honest when constructing Dis-continue, I want that extender decoration to be larger, as the bot is inspired by Hypno-Disc, but I didn't have enough weight.

Also, talking about my bot, is the name of my bot still Dis-continue, and not Dis-truction, because I wrote the wrong name on the skin and thus, I hope you don't change it too

Discussion / Re: Ring Spinners?
« on: July 04, 2018, 07:07:23 PM »
Talking about ring spinners, what is the inside mechanism of ring spinners IRL? I mean, do they use two sets of wheels so they can be invertible, how do their weapon run, and how are their wheels powered?

Tournament Archives / Re: Revolution 3 - Discussion

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]
Building Rules:
-HW Stock 1.4
-No BFE/AAM/Hax Mode/etc.
-Ro7 break is allowed. All other uses of RA2CF are not
-Bots that have their drive designed to break off and SnS bots are banned. Multibots are also not allowed due to tournament seeding format.
-All robots must show controlled movement via at least two powered wheels
-AI parts/140cm extender/blue snapper/etc. are allowed
-Recolored components are allowed. If you use them, let me know which pack they're from. Do not recolor components yourself unless you've already made them available to the public.
-No cheatbot2
-After sending your robot to me, you may update it only once, and only before signups close.

Tournament Format:
-1v1 single elimination main bracket. Any bot that gets knocked out of the main bracket will still be able to compete in a losers round with the same format as Revolution 2, minus the lives system - it's just survive to the end (reminder on that system: two bots fight, the winner stays in to fight another bot, the winner of that stays in to fight another bot, etc until only one bot is left). The order the bots enter will be based on seeding. Here's a visual representation of the bracket:
-16 entries (1 bot per person)
-Virus Bomb is allowed two entries if he wishes (from winning Revolution 2)
-Arena will be a reskinned DSL Blade Arena with the arena hazard toned down.
-3 min time limit, Bo3 matches in main bracket except for the final, which will be a Bo5
-Seeding will be done by randomly splitting the robots into 4 different 4-way rumbles. Depending on how they do in those initial rumbles, they will be placed into another rumble to determine their rank. Here's another picture of text to explain:
-Havok restarts will only be done if the havok explosion is game-changing (as the host, I will determine what is considered game-changing). Any robot that causes a havok restart twice within the same round will lose their match / be eliminated / get last in their rumble, if the havoks happen during the seeding rounds.

Other:
-I can AI, but it is preferred that you do it yourself. That being said, no cheaty AIs. If I AI your bot, you may not complain unless I have made an obvious mistake.
     -No meltybrain.py
-Signups will be for two weeks OR until 16 entries are filled.
-I will be entering ONLY if all 16 spots are not filled by the end of two weeks, and I will compete with this:
- Please keep your robot names/skins family friendly. I have the right to reject any robot that doesn't.
-PRIZE: This will probably be my last tournament, so I want to make it count for whoever wins. The prize for first place is a $20 Steam gift card code! 2nd place will get a $5 steam code.
I checked with geese on this a few months ago and he said this was fine, but if things have changed since then, let me know and I'll see if there's something else I can come up with for the prize.

Anything I missed? If you guys have ideas/suggestions for the tournament, or just if you think everything's good, let me know.
Why is this your last tournament? And how do the Steam gift work?

Discussion / Re: The problem with competitive IRL in RA2
« on: July 03, 2018, 08:04:32 PM »
As an IRL builder, I say that the reason why I got into IRL is because first, IRL bots look good, realistic, and rational, unlike the ugly, unrealistic, and crazy bots of DSL-S and Stock. Second, I want to build bots like I see in real life. And third, as shown in Master of Disaster 2, I think I only build DSL-S or Stock, or Ironforge if there is a tournament about them, and even that, I don't have much interest in stock and Ironforge. But for the MoD 2 tournament, what I built was actually IRL, just that it looked DSL-S because at that time, I didn't know about things like Sergepatcher or the specific different build styles.

Welcome back, Clickbeetle. While I'm one of the new members who registered in the period of your absence (Aside from Bildschirm, moziet, Superbot13, and more), it is great to see a legend comd back. Perhaps even help other players with DSL-S showcase or try DSL-S RL.

Anyway, on the topic, after reading that, it's very sad that despite if you and their efforts, the game is released in a buggy state and permanently tarnished, being turned to a joke. Especially with the new features you mentioned, and the ability to put the components first before making the chassis

Hot take: Typhoon teeth are a bigger problem then mechavore disks (at least at HW level) and should be first in line to get a nerf

Is it the large ones, small ones, or both?

Also the Typhoon teeth have almost the exact same stats as the DSL teeth.  Are those overpowered too?

If so, I suspect the problem lies in the x2 stat multiplier for components with one-dimensional normals.  The teeth actually have 1.5-D normals and this may make a bigger difference than I thought.

Sticking with what I said before - Minion Disc, Mechavore Disc and Typhoon Teeth are all problems, because of how easily they can be used, abused and manipulated. Typhoon Teeth are too easy to spam, while Mechavore discs and Minion Discs give absolutely no reason to make your own discs. You'd have the exact same problem if you made a Tombstone or Carbide replica - the only way to make those robots true to life is to make their components OP, therefore throwing the whole game balance out of whack.

Here's what I say - cheatbot2 the existing Minon, Mechavore and Typhoon Teeth. Put 'em in a box, lock 'em away, give 'em a slight graphical tweak so people know they're the cheatbot2 variants. Then, make newer, non-cheatbot2 versions of those components, with more balanced stats - a 1.5X multiplier instead of a 2X would be a good start. Then, from here on out, any new reps that get made have CB2 and Non-CB2 variants, with CB2 variants being balanced according to the actual robot's power, and the Non-CB2 being balanced according to DSL-S. I think that'd sort things out - and sure, it'd make CB2 messy, but honestly, DSL CB2 has always been messy.
So, how about the flatmotor?

Yeah, heavyweight is better. Also, what format do you want the tournament to be? Is it like Robot Wars, with heats and Grand Final, or Battlebots, with brackets and 1v1 fight between bots

Contests / Re: VOTE BOTM JULY 2018
« on: June 30, 2018, 09:01:22 AM »
Wait, so I am the only one who voted for Seige

717
Yeah that won't enable the chassis points mod. idk if sergepatcher even does that since I've not seen anything about it in this thread except jaydee's post. And all this does is allow you to use more points on the base chassis, nothing more. If you want to give it a go, replace the enabled mods code with the code below I guess.

Code: [Select]
ENABLED_MODS = [
"unlimited mass",             # no mass limit
"unlimited chains",           # disable 7-chain rule
"attachment hermaphroditism", # attach components to any type of AP, disabled by default
"component intersection",     # allow components to intersect any other component, disabled by default
"chassis points",             # disables 16-point chassis limit
]
Wait, when did the chassis points mod appear. I have sergepatcher with no chassis points mod, only the first four

Discussion / Re: Should I continue the "A New BOTM" idea?
« on: June 28, 2018, 07:17:37 AM »
I agree with Orc. But we shouldn't remove the original BOTM, because it has been running for years. I suggest that the staffs endorse and support the new one, and edit the main page for the new BOTM, with links to each category, the winner name, the creator's name, and for the last post on the link, the winner bot's picture

I have created two new bots. The first is HexaVortex. It is a hexagonal shell spinner, equipped with three large typhoons and three large beaters. It has aluminium armor (forget what thickness though, maybe it's 3 or 5mm). Drive is two NPC fasts with rubber wheels. Weapon motor is 6 Mag. The extenders for the shell, meanwhile, is made of aluminium ones. It is also modular, with a second shell that mounts the weapon on the middle part of the panels instead of bottom. The weight of the bot is around 783

The second robot is Terminating Cutter II. It is one of my first attempts at an extenderbot. The body is constructed out of titanium extenders, with the weapon support made of aluminium. Drive is two NPC fasts with N-12 wheels. The weapon motor is a Perm 132 EEEL. The bar, meanwhile, is constructed with a 50x100 middle section, two 50 to 37.5 sections, and large beaters.

alright. you did some improvement since the beginning. that's good.

The skins seem a bit boring to me. make them look better.

no idea about your extender work on discontinue. Is it just for aesthetics ?

Sadly, servo motors do not work for clamps. You'll have to do something with burst motors on Komodo. Also I suggest to use spike strips on it, not only to simulate teeth but also to make it do damage.

The latest iteration of Flipper Time... well, always show internals. Also flippermakers are actually terrible for flipper use, a flipper made of flippermakers is only as strong as it's weakest component (and they're not very tough) those are made to be extenders or for aesthetics. Also your bot is boxy and large (on a flipper, you want it to be wide for maximum stability but also low to the ground and angled so it deflects hits easier.) and you should at least angle your flipper front to not be hit by HS's and rammers and such that hard.

Breaking Hammers needs a longer extender on the top if you want it to mauler dance back on it's wheels better.
So yo answer your questions, for Dis-continue, the extender works are for aesthetics. Originally, it's intended to be like Hypno-disc but I don't have the weight, as it's built for a DSL IRL MW tournament.

I will be honest here. I lost Vert Shredder, Flipper Time, and Komodo when I installed the DSL Reborn AI pack. However, to tell you, I tried rebuilding Komodo, with a bit less bland chassis shape, though I still use servos. I only realized that clamps use bursts once I watched the clamps on Orc's Wars

I haven't build a flipper or lifter yet since Flipper Time, and as I said earlier, lost flipper Time. Though I will take your advices for building future flippers. Also, for an information that people don't know about the bot, the first version was originally intended to be a hammer bot, but then the hammer got interrupted by a component placed in front of the Beta burst. I learned since that I shouldn't place a component on front, but it's too late.

Breaking Hammers is already entered to Deathmatch 2, which has already ended it's Signup. Though I will try to include your suggestion on the second version
