Here's a new thing that ended up being an SHW. Weird twin angled drum thing. Small drums because anything larger would clip with each other where they converge in the middle. Drive is 4 TWM3s which would be fine if this was an HW as planned but since it's an SHW it's not the quickest bot in the world. Drum motors are perm 132s so at least they have some power to them, and that red bit in the middle is a srimech powered by a medium VDMA.

Wow. That's one hell of an original design.

ooo thats cool as hell. Love the angles
Cheers guys!

I've since made the drums a bit bigger which I think looks a fair bit more proportionate. The inner drums still have to use small beaters because they'd collide otherwise but other than that I think it looks better

I like the new version better, because visually, I think this version looks more robust with the covered weapon motor and the structure of the support
Should be more robust in practice too, though that remains to be properly seen.

Probably the best looking Speed Demon yet and probably one of my favourite builds of yours alongside Sabre/Bocuma!

Aww yeah the awesome weapon supports are back

Did some more work on Speed Demon V as I wasn't happy with how (un)clean the previous version was. The whole top section has had a pretty big redesign which, IMO makes it look both cleaner, and makes it more effective in combat. I removed that annoying lip that there was next to the angle pieces on the disc supports and also beefed them up so that they're even more resilient to HSes now. I also altered the angle of the supports and made the srimech into a full panel rather than a weird U-shaped extender thing, which also goes some way to hiding the somewhat sticky-out srimech burst a bit better too. IMO the whole thing looks a lot cleaner now, but I'm interested to hear what you guys think.

Here's a thing. No actual clue what it's meant to be really. Perm 132 for the weapon, dual TWMR2s for drive. Twin slow mags for the srimechs

I love the chassis work on it.

Thanks guys!

Here's another one. Speed Demon is probably one of my most successful bots but I still have ideas how to improve it. This is the result of those ideas: Speed Demon V.

Compared to the previous version it's upgraded in just about every aspect. Drive has increased from dual TWMR2s to dual NPC fasts, the weapon motor can no longer fall off incredibly easily, angled armour pieces have been added around the weapon axle to deflect HS hits, and a quicker, more reliable srimech powered by a Vsmall VDMA has been added.

Weapon motor is a perm 132, drive is 2 NPC fasts, srimech is powered by a Vsmall VDMA. Weight is 799.7KG

Beautiful. I have no clue how you're able to pump out so much skill in such short time.
Thanks man! I find that once you've built one bot you start to get into a rhythm and can make a fair few bots in a short time.

Looks a lot more bulky, less streamlined than before, but I like it!
Bulkier was sort of what I was going for with this version. HSes have been the bane of Speed Demon for basically its entire existence, so I decided I wanted to make a beefed up version that could deal with them better.

Tfw speed demon has gotten slower as it's evolved.

But for real it looks much more durable than before and I love the supports you've done using the angle pieces and I love me some wedgelets. Sick work dude as per usual
This version is a decent bit faster than version IV was due to using NPC fasts rather than TWMR2s. Also as I mentioned last time this came up, the speed of the initial versions was too much of a hindrance for me to stick with it, and the name "Speed Demon" primarily came from the Martini Racing livery that the bot uses for its skin, rather than the actual speed of the bot

Anguish and Astra 10/10
Sabre 11/10 but mainly as I don't consider the skirt wedge as IRL either
Thanks man!  :heart_smiley:

The new wedge on Sabre is a definite improvement. More realistic and looks better too I'd say. Blends in a lot better with the rest of the design.

nice look to them. esp the VS.
Thanks! The VS obviously isn't gonna be very competitive but I'm pleased with how  it came out looks wise and then new disc is definitely a big improvement in that it might not make hosts want to tear their hair out so much I feel.

Made various small updates to some older bots to fix some niggling issues I had with them.

First up is Anguish. This one has seen probably the most major changes of the 3 bots. First off I added a srimech now which should hopefully make it slightly more combat viable (as much as a vert with a single small typhoon tooth can be combat viable), and I also redesigned the disc completely to hopefully be less havok-inducing. This one now uses 2 sandwiched medium 2 discs with a couple of extenders and counterweights inside to balance it. The disc is physically larger than the old one and it's debatable if it looks better or not, but it uses like a third of the components of the old one as well as avoiding 10 degree angle extenders which supposedly contribute towards havoks and crashes, so that should be a good thing.

Next is Astra. I mentioned in the "which bot are you most proud of" thread that this was the build I was most proud of, but despite that I've always had a few small issues with it which I finally took the time to fix. The first of those is the wheels. The way they always clipped through the body unsupported always bothered me, so I added these little wheel guard/support things which, IMO, look great and add a lot to the bot. The other issue I had was the panel gap between the front triangles and the sloped sides. I honestly have no ideas why I left that gap there initially as it's a super easy fix, makes the bot look a lot cleaner and really there's no excuse for me not to have added it given that Astra is an SHW where weight really isn't an issue. The result is now definitely worthy of being the bot I'm most proud of, in my opinion.

And finally Sabre IV. I know full well that I can't stop banging on about Sabre and the many iterations of it and bots based off it that I've made, but it's my personal favourite bot I've ever built and every time I can't think of something new to build I come back to it to have a tinker. This is no exception. Spurred on by the ban of skirts in Brothers in Arms, combined with the fact that I've always thought that the Skirt wedge on Sabre was maybe pushing the limits of my own strict definitions of IRL a bit too far, I finally decided to have a crack at a non-skirt wedge solution for Sabre. This is the result. I think it looks a whole lot cleaner to be honest, and from testing the wedging ability seems similar to the old skirt wedge, so I think it's a win-win really. I'm eager to know you guys' thoughts on it though.

General Support / Re: How to make extenderbots?
« on: August 06, 2018, 05:32:55 PM »
My single biggest piece of advice for building extenderbots is to spend some time playing around with the plates and extenders in order to learn how they work together. The first couple of bots that you build are most likely gonna look like sh**. This is the same for everyone, but gradually, as you learn how the different components interact together with each other you can start to make some cool sh**.

Another piece of advice is that component freedom with all the modules turned on is basically mandatory for extenderbot building so you'll want to install that

Finally, for God sake make sure to put a proper bottom panel on your extenderbots. There's nothing worse than what looks like a cool bot having it's internals hanging over thin air because someone was too skimpy to spend the tiny bit of weight it costs to put a bottom panel on. It may not be necessary for combat, but the little details that don't necessarily contribute towards combat is what IRL building is all about.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The wheels on this thing are gorgeous. Is it 2 pussycat wheels + a drum on the motor axle I'm guessing?. Definitely gonna have to steal that one.

The bot is lovely too. Super full of character just like most of your builds Thy  :heart_smiley:

I like Valkyri3 a ton. Probably one of my favourite hammer bots I've seen in a while. One of those that just perfectly fits the criteria of what I personally think an IRL bot should look like. Great stuff  :thumbup

Other bots are cool too. Vesuvius could maybe do with a bit more "flow" to it, as at the moment it looks maybe a wee bit boxy. The core is definitely there though.
