The penultimate heat is upon us as Heat G is now here!
Fight Summaries:
Eliminator 1:A brutal battle to start out with where Sarin was just pummelled to near-death, but still survived. Meanwhile Torrent and Mediocre White were fighting their own fights, but all 4 'bots did survive, so the judges' decision went as such: Damage: Obviously Orang Min got the 2 points for damage for utterly demolishing Sarin while the minor point went to Mediocre White for destroying Torrent's weapon system. Orang Min 2, Mediocre White 1 Control: I'm gonna say this right now, SnS'es will almost certainly lose in the event of a judges' decision due to having no real controlling capabilities. With that said, Torrent was far more controlled with Mediocre white snagging the minor point solely because Sarin lost points for charging into Orang Min constantly and not getting any control. Torrent 2, Mediocre White 1 Aggression: Aggression's a similar case, with both Mediocre White and Torrent getting the points while Orang Min got nothing. Mediocre White was better at aggressive action, though, so Mediocre White 1, Torrent 1/2 Overall, Medicore White 3, Torrent 2.5, Orang Min 2.
Eliminator 2:The DM4 champ struggled hard, getting ripped to death by Kirin 2020. I figured Shrike would suffer the same fate, but to my surprise a killer flip outta nowhere after an abrupt havok ended up killing Kirin while Grey Box Testing managed to deal wayward damage, breaking off one of Shrike's forks in the process. A relatively solid, if quick fight. Losers Rumble:Poor Tearaway never had a chance, did it? It got torn up and spat out in ruthless style while Sarin was torn apart again and actually counted out as a result of Kirin's attacks. Kirin did die in the closing seconds, but it didn't really matter for it in the end.
Kirin got the win on all categories, not only because it killed Tearaway and immobilised Sarin, but also because Orang Min was so passive and reluctant to do anything that even with Kirin getting penalised for attacking an already dead Sarin and losing power, it was not enough for it to be eliminated. Winners Rumble:...aaaaaand cue a 'bot suddenly coming out of nowhere to put on a dominant performance. Shrike did fantastically after a slow start, managing to punt out all 3 'bots in the fastest fight of AN2 to my knowledge. No 'bot was safe, and Shrike pulled off an amazing victory without any losses despite its minimal changes. Final Showdown:Welp, the 'bot I expected to win the fight somehow ended up being the only 'bot that actually got eliminated, that being Kirin. This was actually harder than I thought it would be to judge, because all 'bots did damage in some form and had their strong moments. Here's how I scored this fight. Damage: I had to think quite a bit about this, as Torrent and Mediocre White did more noticable damage but were in terrible shape at the end while Grey Box was less noticable, but was relatively intact at the end. Ultimately, Grey Box's consistent damage output and lack of any damage netted it the 2 points while Torrent got the minor point for ripping apart Mediocre White's armour and weapon. Grey Box Testing 2, Torrent 1. Control: What sealed the minor point for Grey Box was it being the lone 'bot left standing in the end, but it didn't do enough to get the major points, which I gave to Torrent as it consistently managed to control the 'bots it fought during the match. Torrent 2, Grey Box Testing 1. Aggression: The decider... was actually the minor point, as Mediocre White got the 1 point for aggression for being the most aggressive during the battle. Ultimately, though it was Grey Box that got the minor point due to its stronger performance and being the last 'bot standing in the end. Mediocre White 1, Grey Box Testing 1/2. Overall: Grey Box Testing 3.5, Torrent 3, Mediocre White 1. Overall Thoughts:This was a bit odd, honestly. Sarin felt like it was screwed over hard, but Shrike managed to pull off a phenomenal performance that I was not expecting at all. Grey Box managed to survive and barely make it out alive, and with that, only one heat remains. I can't avoid it any longer, so I might as well do this thing...
HEAT H COMING SOON... Colour me surprised. Shrike was a literal afterthought of just taking my old ass Deathmatch 2 bot and doing some minor modifications to bring it up to roughly current standards. If you'd told me it would wreck house and go undefeated in its heat I wouldn't have believed you.

Crap, I better enter something fast!
Did you not read the giant bold text that says to not build yet?
Oops, too late, built a bot already. Oh well.
Anyways, can I sign up for the tourney? This tournament's team concept is interesting to me.
Yeah but the point of the tourney is that you build after signing up. You get into teams and discuss among yourselves what bot type each person is gonna do and then build a bot accordingly. Coming in with a bot pre built doesn't really work.
Yeah, sorry. I'm not used to this type of format. So, where do we discuss team stuffs?
It's fine DW about it. Each team will likely get put into discord groups if it's like last time, where they can discuss what bot types each person wants to do and share pics of builds in progress to get advice and feedback and stuff

Well it's a new year so I better get my "1 middleweight per year" quota out of the way A new MW version of Claymore/Sabre. Actually learned some interesting new weight management techniques that should be useful on my HWs and CWs as well doing it so it was actually worth the effort, and it's certainly an improvement over the old MW Sabre/Claymore that I built back in like 2018. If ever there's a tournament calling for MWs, CWs and HWs or something then this will likely be my entry.

Quick rebuild of an old blue flipper to shake off the rust of not building for 3 months.
Probably gonna skin up the flipper panels and chuck it in AC3 depending how many entries each person gets
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
One day I'll make a britflipper that can actually win fights
The flipper itself is neat, but I REALLY love the name.
I've got a big notepad doc of just random cool words that I think would work as bot names

So once there is 8 more bots, the deadline will be set for submissions, or will submissions just close once there are 8 more bots? (just checking as I'm still tryna figure out all the new DSL stuff)
Once 48 teams are hit, then the deadline will be set for 1 week after. People can still enter during that week but after that entries will close

Pretty happy with my performance there. I expected Apogee to do well here as long as it didn't get attacked from behind due to the nature of rumbles. That's exactly what happened in the first fight that resulted in me losing the wheel and getting counted out, but thankfully in the other matches it didn't really which allowed it to show what it can do in an arena with walls like this.
Monolith was always gonna be cannon fodder here and if anything I'm glad it's presence gave Apogee more of a shot of getting through, but also I was actually pretty impressed with how decently it did going weapon to weapon with Delta's drum until Aesthetics got involved and ****ed me up

Is this for OW?
There's a lot of non-standard components here that mean it's not gonna be legal. At a glance both the battery you're using and the burst motor aren't included in DSL 2.4

Everyone's posting their OW5 lineups so I guess I'll post mine. Nothing really new or exciting but most of my bots have been updated both visually and performatively since you last saw them. Missing Link: Has been cleaned up a fair bit since you last saw it but is otherwise the same. This is my reserve entry so you may not be seeing it in the main series Claymore (Seeded 16th): Pretty major rebuilds since it was showcased here. Way, way cleaner with the panels all lining up properly at last. Finally it looks better than Sabre (the bot it replaced). I also skinned up a couple of panels just to make it look a little nicer too. Hoping this one does well. Bocuma (Seeded 3rd): Has actually seen a near total rebuild to bring it in weight with the 2.4 component changes but as always it retains the same design. There has been one change in terms of competitiveness though: it now has a Dantomkia-style "kickstand" bit at the back to try and keep the wedge on the floor as one of Bocuma's biggest weaknesses was how it would wheelie when hitting an opponent allowing them to get under what is otherwise a near-peerless wedge. Speed Demon VII: My lock in for the series. Wedgelets are spaced further apart than when I last showcased this as a result of experience in PWS (which resulted in it eventually winning the final installment of that tournament). 2.4 freed up some weight which I've used to both substantially buff the armour, and also to make the transition of the wedge/anti spinner pieces into the chassis cleaner. Phosphor: My qualifier bot. Has also seen a total rebuild as a result of being nearly 200kg overweigh in 2.4. By building much smarter I was able to get it in weight without really sacrificing looks at all. Hammerbots are never great in RA2 but as hammerbots go this is a pretty decent one, and managed to push Greedee pretty hard in its last tournament appearance which hopefully bodes well.

tldr: the slots for selecting robots get progressively more unstable and there's nothing we can do to fix them. it's not actually the amount of robots in the arena that's causing the issues like we thought
even larger and heavier items like wheels aren't stable in the last slot
The fact that they're basically just a coinflip of who gets ganged up on should be reason enough to stop doing rumbles, let alone the fact they make the game sh** itself on top of that.

Unfortunately, I had to reject a couple, mostly just due to stuff clipping with the Chassis that would make it look unrealistic.
Rejected: Nabi - Lajonet fran Norden (Motors clipping through the chassis) Pocket Jake - Decap (Gearbox clipping through chassis) WillOfForce - Rest in Piece (Motors clipping through chassis)
That stuff is normally legal in IRL tournaments.
I've seen one of the 3 of these and the drive motors were clipping pretty egregiously through the bottom panel of the robot. IDK about the other 2 but he was right to reject that IMO

Another bot updated. Cicada this time. I know quite a lot of people like this one, and I do too, but it needed some changes. First off I cleaned up the panel work. Stuff fits together much better now. One thing I never liked about the previous iteration was the big dumb granny wheels it needed to run inverted, so I've ditched invertability completely in favour of a srimech powered by a slow mag (the green bit on top is the srimech. Took some fiddling to get the whole thing in weight but I got there by optimising my extenderwork. I plan to skin the microvore at some point too to match the theme better but for now I'm happy with this thing.
