« on: December 25, 2017, 07:36:41 PM »
Merry Christmas everyone!  I managed to get the Expansion Pack up and ready.  The download is in the original post, but you can also click here for it as well.

Please report back if I have missed any obvious errors.

Only suggestion would beTopknot could possibly be redone as a turreted axe, to get closer to the original  "axes all around" idea of the original.
Oh yeah, I did that.  I completely forgot to mention that in the OP.   :dumb)

I was looking back at one of my AI packs known as "DSL Reborn AI" where I basically remade the original Stock AI from DSL into a more IRL fashion.  It was actually rather alright as it allowed more options for IRL buiders other than the replicas which use custom parts that aren't quite allowed in most IRL tournaments.  I was tempted to remake some of them using the new IRL parts by DSC, but I felt that would be rather tedious and in the end, it probably would require another separate download ahead of time.  I looked back and feel I should fix some of the AI errors that harmed them, like Sentinel is perfectly capable of being invertible, but I used Flipper2.py which doesn't work, so that will be fixed in the future.  But I also noticed that some bots I ignored at the time that, really weren't made with DSL 2.2 in mind.  So I decided to complete the other two teams to create a sense of consistency and make them feel like they belong.  I tried my hardest to make them IRL and at the same time, try to approach the style of the original design.

First up was Gammaraze III.  Gammaraze was a rather fast and aggressive design, but at the cost of low damaging weaponry.  I mostly tried to approach this from the perspective of the third version rather than the first and second.  Fun to drive around and it's perfectly invertible

Topknot II is next in line.  An all-around attacker with no real strengths or weaknesses.  The quad-axe design wasn't exactly too approachable for an IRL design but I found a way to replicate the style as best as possible.  The good news is that I made the bot a turret-axe bot so it has the "all-around" features still in it's spirit.

Some sacrifices needed to be made when I was creating ScootOrDie.  I doubt I would be able to make an IRL Poker/Hammer Hybrid.  I decided to approach the more IRL-esque perspective with the Hammer idea and create horns as an alternative to the poking mechanic.  In return I added a srimech since not a lot of bots in the pack really have one.

Aquarius 2 wasn't an easy one to make as you might first think.  I wasn't sure of the approach to go through with this one.  Aquarius was a nimble glass cannon and something that can pierce armor of you weren't careful.  Replicating that in an IRL style would be tough as I went through several redesigns.  The most complete previous design was a wammer/flammer thing with some horns, but it didn't fit the style and it didn't even look all that good.  Here, I decided to approach a Rammstein approach with one wedge instead of two.  The Vlad Spear was something I also wanted to use for this as I never usually see it.

I knew from the start that remaking these bots would be harder and harder to do, and I was afraid of how I was gonna approach Pon2n since it's a hover bot.  I don't think there is an IRL HW hovercraft as far as I'm aware.  So I didn't really go for that with this, but I did want to take the Pontoon approach with the propeller in the back and that Pontoon in RA1 didn't really fly in the air either.  I am rather proud of the outcome of this, but I didn't think there would be another alternative or idea with this one.

Last but not least: Triclops v2.0.  One of the hardest bots in RA1 and a rather dangerous threat in DSL.  I wanted to approach a style with both but mostly the DSL side due to creating multiple hammers would look weird for an IRL bot.  The tail in the back is to not only create the beast effect and also prevent the bot from jumping like crazy.

Now it may look complete, but I said two teams.  What's the other you may ask?

Yep.  It's the entire Arthrobotics team.  A team of two AW's and four BW's.  Most were all pretty IRL from the start and talking individual notes about each would just be less than a full sentence anyway, so there isn't much of a point with that.  I did update them to feel more in style with some parts of 2.2, so there's that.

I was planning on releasing them today, but I was rather packed in my week so it might be a bit tough, but AI'ing theoretically take too long to do, so I might be able to make it.  At the worst, it'll be delayed to the end of the year.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Existing Games / Re: Favorite Games of 2017!
« on: December 24, 2017, 01:42:52 PM »
Didn't play a lot of new games in 2017, but Sonic Mania is right up there as one of my favorites though.  Might also get a chance to play titles last minute on Steam when I get a chance before the year ends.

RedAce could you ai my clusterbot if i enter it?, i must be doing something wrong because the game keeps crashing but i can't figure out what the problem with the ai line is i hope you don't mind. (not that i don't know how to ai since i did it before with Whiplash it just seems that the game does not want to accept it)
Yes.  I can AI it as it fits the rules.

Also, I got the logo finished and the arena skin ready.

« on: December 17, 2017, 06:07:43 PM »
Thanks to everyone who has voted, we now have our weight limit which will be Cruiserweights!

I also removed the BW side tourney as I feel that's just gonna slow things down and I don't think a lot of people seem to be that interested in it.

Sorry for being late, had to cater to some IRL responsibilities, but I will certainly put my focus in this.  Starting with a new name, logo, and arena skin coming in later.  Don't worry, I'll make sure it releases sometime within the next three days.  I also would like to get a mock heat going with some bots I built to show the format of the competition and editing in case some people are confused.  Lastly, I have... something else coming soon.

No, I haven't forgotten about this, even if the last post makes it look like I have.

Firstly, I'm debating on removing the BW side tournament.  Yeah it would be cool, but the real question is would enough people even enter that in the first place?  I feel it's just gonna stall for the main competition which will be the star of the tournament.  Speaking of which, you have until Saturday to choose the official weight class.

I also need a name.  I have a couple ideas, but I feel I should try to come up with something that doesn't sound like I picked one from clicking the random article button on Wikipedia.  I ask this as I'll get to creating the arena skin and logo up around when the poll ends.    I am tempted to have "The Tournament that Nobody Asked for" as the small subtitle, because it makes sense.

Tournament Archives / Deathmatch - Signups Closed
« on: November 27, 2017, 12:59:06 PM »

In all fairness, I've had an idea for this for a while now and I planned on hosting an IRL tourney to end on a high note back in March, but Doot made something not only similar, but also completely overshadowed mine in every way.  So I decided to hold back on that idea for a bit, then I decided to do a small mini tourney in Ironforge for the summer just to make sure I still had it in me for tournament hosting.  It wasn't my best as I found myself distracted on other life things and just having other issues with my laptop.  This time, it's going to be a tournament I will put all of my priorities on.  I want to make this the best tournament I will ever host, and one that I will feel proud of completing.  I'm probably not going to start this quite yet, but I'd like to create as many improvements and such before this enters signups.

GENERAL RULES:
- DSL 2.2 CW's
- IRL Building Style
- 36 bots will Compete
- Once bot per member, but if signups aren't completely filled up for a while, then I will extend for another week and allow secondary entrants.
- I'm willing to AI if you are not able to, but don't complain what I AI'd your bot or you will disqualified automatically (It will not change once the SBV thread is up.)

BUILDING RULES:
- DSL 2.2 Bots only
- Cruiserweight bots only (399.1 - 600.0 KG)
- Very Strict IRL Rules Apply
- Walkers/Shufflers will get an additional 200 KG, but that weight must be used for the mechanism itself.
- Multibots will be allowed, but at least weigh at least 35% of the total weight limit of your bot.
- Modular robots will be allowed, but you can enter a maximum of four configurations and you must PM the specified bot type for the configruation to fight.
- The DSC IRL packs will be allowed (Even future releases)
- The following components are allowed, but you can only use one on your entrant: Mechavore disc, Microvore disc, Moros blade, Frenzy hammer, Minion disc, Overkill blade
- You can send your own component reskins as long as you provide the necessary files to me when you enter and the ONLY change to said component(s) is the skin.
- The only cheatbot2 Components allowed are the Flatmotor, Slow Flatmotor, and the Overkill Motor.  Everything else is banned.
- BFE, AAM, OBJRA2 and Every Sergepatcher Component Freedom tool, except for the weight bonus one, will be allowed for IRL purposes
- You can make an update once and only once (The only exception if it's a skin change or anything extremely minor), but I will stop allowing updates when signups close.
- If an updated bot is illegal, then I will use the original bot you sent me.

BATTLE RULES:
- 3 minute length matches
- The Robot Wars 2016 Arena (Reskinned) will be used for this tournament
- In the event of Secondary Signups, then I will make sure both of your bots do NOT compete in the same heat
- Any multibots competing must have at least 55% of the total robot to be considered eliminated, and any melees they fight in will have the heaviest robot compete.
- Only VERY minor havoks will be shown in a main heat video, and bots will not be penalized for havoks.  However if a robot havoks more than enough times or just straight up crashes my game too often, then the robot will be eliminated and will be referenced to "technical issues"  (If the builder would like to see a video of the havoks for proof, then I will upload said video, and for the record, I'd say 20 havoks or crashes would be a tipping point for me to just forfeit it and move on).
- There will be six heats, with three 1-on-1 qualifiers per heat.  Winners will advance to the semi-finals, but losers will go on to a redemption rumble for a second chance.  The winner of that will earn a spot back in the competition, and follow a traditional bracket style for the heat.  The Grand Final will also follow the same format.
- I will be judging every bot fairly on a spectrum of 45 points from three categories: Aggression, Damage, and Control (in other words, Classic Battlebots style judging).

Arena Skin:

My Entry:

Prizes:
First place will earn the AI of all the entrants, the arena, and a Robots Designs folder with all the entries to play around with, including the rejected ones.

tl;dr Dutch Robot Wars but with Cruiserweights

So I got bored and made this thing.

Even if it's an obvious clone, I had a lot of fun making this one.  Pretty fun to drive too.

Oh wow I didn't even notice that.   :dumb)

To be fair, the font I used was called "HackatTack" which compared to most normal fonts is weird with it's letters.

Welp, might as well post this before I forget.

Yeah, didn't do so well.  Eh, I didn't expect much anyway.

I did have a family for the entire lineup actually, so here's that.

I also made this for... reasons.

Right now all we need is admin action, somekind of prize, and final confirmation if Redace is still willing to host.
Well, one out of three ain't bad.  Still up for it if this gets going.  All I would like to know about the other two metas to handle if I need to host all three.

So this was just something I had in my botlab for a while.  Also I just wanted to test the image attachment system, but I couldn't figure it out.  I tried the tutorials available but no such luck sadly.  Ah well, imgur is much better anyway.

Edit: Kinda figured out how to use it, thanks guys in Discord, but I haven't properly tested it.

Pretty much sums up my position as well.

I have received Gulden's bot.  Just waiting on TGM to send Holy Wings or whatever really unless that rule is enforced that much.

Edit: And now I have TGM's bot.  I'll get the match up sometime tomorrow.

I'd love to enter, but I feel that the system for robot selection feels a bit iffy.  Wouldn't it make more sense to have to have everyone send their variation in mind for the opponent their facing?  Not for each and every single form, as that would bring a dead game unless both entrants luckily choose the exact variant, but just for the main opponent?  Like for example, I pick Solstice flipper for Dominotrix, and you choose Dominotrix hammers for Solstice.  I say this so that people don't have to wait every single match and people can send their picks right out of the gate, (i.e.) what DoT did for RoboGames.

Other than that, yeah, solid tournament idea.  Love to enter.

Anyone wanna fite my Holy wings?
I'll take ye.

Edit: Should I not have done this?  People on Discord now want to fight it...
They dont wanna.
Looks like we still need a host.  Anyone up?
Eh, why not.  I'm up for it.  I need to get back into hosting matches, period.  Just give me a reminder later on Discord or whatever when the thread goes live.
