I stopped playing a while back, I occasionally pick it up again but any knack I had for building anything is long gone. I feel like my interest partially died back when the PC I had most of my stuff on croaked, though I have that things HDD still around and even though we formatted it and used it again I wonder if I can recover some things from it. Won't hurt to try.
But honestly I just got bored building stuff on my own and no one to play with due to dialup internet and no one really playing online. If we ever had the multiplayer figured out i'd love to give that a shot at some point. But I don't really have much interest in building a bot just to let the AI drive it. I'm about playing a game not just building stuff.
The online thing has mostly been solved using Parsec (which basically emulates local multiplayer except over an internet connection), and there have been a few online tournaments, though they haven't got all that much traction here on GTM.

Double posting cuz I built another thing. Wanted to do an invertible drum, but I still refuse to use flatmotors. This is the result. 2 Perm 80s for the drum work pretty well. If I can find some weight for wedgelets I think this thing could be really competitive.

Been doing some tinkering around building lately. Built a bunch of stuff I'm not gonna be showcasing because it's either not finished, not refined, or just flat out too poor to showcase. I did come up with this though, which I think is somewhat passable. It's kinda an HW successor to a CW I built way back when, but with most things just executed a fair bit better. 2 med VDMAs for the flipper, dual NPC fasts for the drive

Aaaand now DSL 2.1 is back babyyy
Reviving a dead meta in a dead version of a dead game is peak of humanity
at least people are building this time
would you prefer everyone posting viva la standard, tournament shilling, and constant shots at irl?
Dont get me wrong, i like it that its alive again, boomers now have something to do besides yelling at zoomers
If this thread's anything to go off that's only gonna get worse

I echo what Badger says. I imagine you can hide those values from the user.
The other disputed factor in RA2 was movements that were not "human reproducible" along the lines of rapidly switching a motor on and off to save power or doing fancy things such as meltybrain.
Sounds like you have a pretty good grasp of how it should we to though. I have very little preference for either language. What sort of math libraries do they include? I imagine that might be a factor in more complicated routines.
Uh oh. I had fully assumed that people would be okay with melty brain controls.
We can do something where state is only updated and made available to the AI every 0.1 seconds, so even though the AI can run at 60 FPS, it is only reading new state information at 10 FPS. Or we could do it in reverse, where state is read every 60 fps, but control signals are only applied to the motors every 10 FPS.
I fully expect that good AI controls would be able to kick a human player's butt. At least that is what I had in my head -- when competing against other players, you are putting your very best AI against their very best AI.
The issue with Meltybrain in RA2 is that it's ONLY possible with AI. There's no real way to do it (at least that isn't cludgy as hell) for a player-controlled bot. If you can find a way to get meltybrain to work for both player and AI driven bots, I can't see why it would be an issue

Thing for Trak attak. Slow as hell (2 TWMR2s), underpowered weapon (1 medium VDMA on an HW) Gonna do sh**. But hey it maybe looks okay I guess

Yes. I named the smartzone as flip and the control as flip (also tried changing them both to fire but to no avail) as well. Every other robot that I've AI'd with a flipper has worked fine, it's just Gravity that doesn't seem to want to cooperate.
The control should be Flip with a capital F

Still play just about every day. Come a long way since I joined GTM nearly 3 years ago now, but still got a long way to go until I feel I'm complete as a builder.
Never really had too many burnout issues either. I think the longest break I've taken from this game since I joined GTM is like a month or two

dsl 2.2 it is. yea, i know about ant spam, tried to use bigger batteries but no space - the original build had a battlepack but it was unrealistic.
again, a ripping teeth is too big. this weapon is just the right size. i don't like typhoon teeth this much, they don't look good.
Speaking of unrealistic, here's Thagomizer
(Image removed from quote.)
normal npc's, 1mm plastic only. it seems to work. wish there was some 45° angle.
Looks to me like you can squeeze a black in there instead of the ants, though I may be wrong.

Here's an update to a single tooth I made a fair while ago that actually attempts to be competitive. The single tooth is gone as a result (I still have a single tooth version since I think it was pretty neat, if hilariously uncompetitive). I also gave it a tankier wedge, a different drive setup (2 TWMR2s instead of 4 slims, which was hella slow). Retains the small VDMA srimech and the standard ass blue and black colour scheme that I default to too

Pretty decent. Bit messy in some areas, most notably the top panel (try to get rid of that panel gap), but solidly put together for the most part.
Seconding Badger on the colour thing too, and I can't help but feel like you're wasting a lot of weight by having all of the panels be steel. Do the rear panels where it's rarely gonna get hit really need to be steel?

What is the swing arc on Ubik? You could make it into a Robot Wars Series 2 bot if you added some saws under the flipper
No way I can add any additional weaponry. I'm right on the weight limit as-is. The bot is pretty damn potent the way it is currently anyway. In other news I cleared up some other parts. Made the wedge edge full-width which makes it look a fair bit better IMO, as well as cleaning up the rear end a bunch. These changes actually resulted in a reduction in weight, which I spent on a wee bit more battery power to hopefully stop it from running out.

Can Ubik self-right?
It can indeed. Rather spectacularly too I should add

I intended to vote for Poke but accidentally voted for Billy because the numbers randomly switch from being below the bot hey correspond to to above the bot they correspond to
For that vote, guessing you intended to pic Poke because of how messy the panels are on my bot
There wasn't any reason in particular I didn't pick yours, just that I felt of the bots there Poke's was best

3 stegs as a flipper I like, I'm always a fan for simple yet effective designs.
Cheers lad

Here's a thing which I had way too much trouble getting to work for something so simple. Supposed to be a spiritual successor to a bot I made WAYYYYY back when. 4NPC fasts and a top panel flipper powered by a wide medium VDMA. Tried to give it some character despite the fairly boring design and I think it came out alright. Here's the old ass bot it's based on just for a reminder

tried to replicate Doctor Fist as my first replica. (Image removed from quote.) not very proud of the result, also i'm a newbie. so it was kind of normal that it came out like this. (Image removed from quote.) (Image removed from quote.) i tried to use the OBJ to RA2 tutorial, but the chassis i tried to make didn't worked (only showed a piece when i converted it from Maya, didn't showed it when i made it in Blender), so i decided to use normal chassis in RA2.
also, it came out very sh**ty in terms of functioning, too fast, too unstable and stuff like that. any suggestions about how to tweak it? ps= the armor is titanium 1 (DSL mod)
Welcome to the forums my dude. Pretty decent first rep. The piglet is a pretty terrible weapon motor but to be honest that's probably about accurate for a Doctor Fisr rep since it's weapon was also terrible. As for the speed, KidDelta's advice is sound. You can drop the drive to TWMR Drive motors and that should drop the speed to a more accurate level. Don't worry about not getting OBJ2RA2 right away BTW. I've been on the forum nearly 3 years and I still have no clue how to use it

You're limited for a reason...
Nonetheless, feels like you've actually made some progress in terms of your building. The MW flipper looks mostly solid though it may run out of batts in a fight that goes the full 3 mins.
Your VS is decent but TBH I think the old HS version is superior. The motor you're using for the VS is super underpowered. Try to get a perm 132 in there, or use a flatmotor if you're not opposed to using cheat it parts
Perms look ugly when sticking out. With how compact this bot is, it will be difficult to fit a bulky perm32 in there.
Fair. That's why I also suggested the alternative of a flatmotor. They're very widely used for this exact kind of application in IRL building. Plenty of IRL VSes you can check out to see how exactly they're used.
