Not really a 'proper' showcase but I wanted to **** around with the new hworf AP so I updated this old thing by giving it a 72V motor, a nicer wedge and a few bits of cleaning up. It's got some rough edges because it's an old bot but this was mostly just to play around with and see how the hworfs fare Also damn. TIL it's over 2 years since the last update to this bot. Time flies eh.

Flipper thing. Vague Rapid vibes, also vague Spawn Again vibes. Also has that sweet adidas tracksuit flipper
2 TWMR2s, 2 TWMRs, 2 medium VDMAs. Front is all steel, rest is Alu

If you're playing stock or not going for realism then follow Madman's advice.
The realistic building style that's most popular today is still pretty wedge-focused just like the real battlebots. There's two different philosophies that are popular really.
One is wedgelets like you see on a bunch of real battlebots. You can make them out of extenders and the dedicated wedgelet components included in DSL 2.5 along with the spring loaded metal hinge component. (having your wedge on a hinge is pretty crucial in RA2 for actually getting under stuff)
Another is the so-called "panel wedge", which is a wedge that uses a panel component along with a wedge edge component, again attached to a hinge (often a skirt hinge instead of the spring loaded metal hinge)
We don't allow the kind of wedges that madman refers to in his comment in the realistic building style that's most popular these days because they rely on paper thin sheets of metal that would bend really quickly on real robots
Advantages of wedgelets are that their small size allows them to exploit small gaps in the ground clearance of the opponent, while panel wedges tend to have outright better wedging ability.
There's never really gonna be a wedge that gets under literally everything else 100% of the time, but these approaches work well in the realistic meta aimed at emulating real robot combat as best as possible.
I'd recommend joining the RA2 central discord (linked at the top of the homepage) if you have more questions because it's a lot more active than here.

Updated up to current standards. Added reference to DSL 2.5 and a section on overvolted motors, their uses and disadvantages, and how to identify them for new players.

Not built a vert in a while so here's one. 4WD (2 TWMR2s, 2 TWMRs) 72V Etek, Heavily armoured too and can self right with the weapon (also somewhat invertible)

Relatively basic hammer. Might show up in PWT at some point because it's got 4WD (2 TWMR2s, 2 TWMRs) and should have a decent wedge hopefully. Front will hopefully be very tanky since it's 2 60x100 steel panels. 1 large slow VDMA for the hammer, which is only 30kg so won't be hugely damaging. May swap it to an axe head for more damage output

WWRA2 entry. Far from groundbreaking but I wanted to do something I knew would be relatively effective considering it's a team tournament, and everyone on my team seemed to be clamouring for me to do one of the flippers. Had planned to do a clamp but between that and the new format that I'm fairly sure will mean that the less competitive bot types will fall out of the tournament pretty quickly I decided to go back to my roots and do the front hinge. Mostly my basic front hinge fundamentals. 2WD TWMR2s (I originally dabbled with 4WD but I just couldn't get a setup that looked good for this particular design) and 2 VDMA front hinges. This thing should be pretty tanky because it's got steel basically everywhere, and the wedge and KO ability seem really strong from testing. I'm sure the lack of drive will lose it a few fights but hopefully nothing too bad.

New lad. Had this idea bouncing around in my head for a bit now. Wanted to do a kinda bucket scoop style flipper, but try to make it a wee bit less of a brick sh**house than they usually are. 2 of the new right angle TWMR2 drives, which are equivalent to NPC fasts now. Not crazy speedy by any means but standard drive for a bot by me. 2 medium VDMA R/Ps which is fairly standard for a rear hinge too, though it has a fair bit of weight on the bursts so I doubt it'll be crazy powerful. All in all I think it came out pretty well, though are some small rough edges in places. I also did some fairly major updates to Cicada since my last post in here, but didn't think they warranted a post of their own. New disc setup with 3 of the new small curved teeth, a 72v etek now for the weapon motor, and a bunch of cleanup and optimisation to get this all in weight and looking good

nobodys commenting on your sh** and thats a shame. clean as always

I blame discord for that.
Truth be told, it's a good robot. Though, I can't shake this nagging voice in the back of my head wanting to say "haha, Roboteer made another black and blue flipper."
I do get feedback for my stuff on discord so it's not like I'm getting nothing when I post a bot. I'll continue posting my stuff to the forum as long as it exists because it's nice to have an archive where you can see how someone has progressed as a builder over time, but as long as I'm getting feedback in some form or another I don't mind too badly if it's on discord or the forum. Thanks though both of you. I'm pretty happy with the panelwork on this one. You can blame the fact it's a sequel to an old bot for it being yet another black and blue flipper

Dunno if anyone remembers this old thing but I did a rework. Front on the old one was entirely extenders which was absolute aids, so I fixed that, and also gave it a wee bit more shape. Spent like 3 hours trying to sort the extenderwork at the back which was legit some of the hardest panelwork I've ever done, and I'm still not entirely satisfied (definitely a wee bit messy), but other than that I'm pretty happy. It's a tad unerweight ATM so I may go to two VDMA front hinges for the flipper as it's currently a single storm

Really impressed me in PWT, both visually and performance wise. I do think the defence config is just all around a better robot than the attack config though. IMO it looks nicer, and it also seemed to perform better (not that the attack one performed particularly badly though)

Gave it a pan which both makes it work better and makes it look better

Been having a mess around with 2.5 and wanted to make a hammer utilising the new hammer bursts and the judge gavel. This is wha I came up with. Definitely some rough edges that need ironing out particularly on the front, and it's not gonna be competitive because it has no wedge ATM. I may try to give it a dustpan of some kind in the near future if I can find a bit of weight, and that would also go some way to hiding the seam on the front pontoons where the baseplate doesn't fully line up. Largely though I think it looks decent, and it was fun experimenting with some of the new 2.5 components too.

Bunch of work done to get it in the HW limit. Dropped over 250kg which is quite a feat considering it doesn't look all that different. Swapped to a microvore, which I would skin if doing so wasn't literal hell due to how sh** the mesh is for it, and just generally optimised my extenderwork. Did have to drop some of the wedge to Ti which I was trying to avoid, but they're fairly big plates so should still be reasonably durable. Corners are still steel.

Underweight for an SHW, overweight for a HW ATM, but largely done visually. Will definitely be coming back to it internally though, ideally to give it more drive as it's way underpowered in that department ATM. Will likely be one of my RW3 entrants

Nah, that little joint by the wedgelet. The one the game always tries to sneak in on you.
Think I've sorted it

Ahh I see. It MIGHT be possible to fix it with the right combination of angle pieces. I think I've got a 22.5 degree and a 10 degree angling it inwards ATM. Maybe a 45 degree with a 10 degree in the other direction would get them meshing seamlessly. I'll have a tinker at some point soon
