Seeing stuff actually get rejected for sh** like this is pretty refreshing NGL. If tourney hosts stop accepting borderline sh**, build standards are naturally gonna go up as a result.

No more then 1 wide medium/large vdma, storm front hinge or beta OR a maximum of 2 medium or smaller vdma. (no mixing and matching)
No more then 2 large typhoon or 4 small typhoon (no mixing)
idk I think just one Storm burst and the typhoon limits are too strict for my liking. 2 storms, 4 larges, and 6 smalls feel much better to me. This is coming from someone who doesn't use 4 larges or 2 storms, but the bots that use those setups are usually reasonable.
Eh. 4 larges on an HS is perfectly reasonable, but on a vert that can gutrip it's too much IMO. I do think people should start separating out VSes and HSes when they do tooth limits since HSes are just straight up not as strong due to the fact that they can't control the opponent like Verts can, and also have to hit the front and sides of the opponent which are generally more armoured than the bottom panel.

The burst limits would be too much IF the ring arena wasn't in there, but that's pretty much a free league for flippers no matter what burst limits you put in.

how about your bot vs deadgnaws and big bad wolf in a three way challenge match? :gunz:

how about your bot vs deadgnaws and big bad wolf in a three way challenge match? :gunz:
I'd be down. I think my 2WD, weight inefficient monstrosity won't stand much of a chance but it'll be a laugh anyway
I'll be down for this for sure: recently finished a new Deadgnaws so perfect timing!
How does Robogames arena best of 5 sound to you guys?

Big old vert. Somewhat inspired by Deadgnaws but I tried to put my own spin on it, plus I made it a shark instead of a crocodile :V.

It's currently about 70KG overweight for an HW annoyingly, so I may drop to 2WD to get it in weight. Nonetheless I'm pretty happy with it looks wise, though some areas are maybe slightly unclean.

Edit: Aforementioned HW version. Went from 4 NPC regulars to 2 NPC fasts. Also enclosed the wheels since some people raised that the wheels on the overweight version looked odd

Looks good besides those battery wires poking out of the side triggering the sh** out of me. Can we pretend it was on purpose? "It's the removable link"
Just for you

I'll bung something in. Typhoons being banned is enough to interest me alone, though I suspect ripping teeth will just take their place. I do like building new bots for tournaments too, as much as I reenter Bocuma into stuff. Will try to come up with something novel.  :thumbup

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Confession about some GTM drama

Pretty sure everything Hop and I said in the GTM chat is stuff we've already said to you face to face, hence your existing grudges against us. If someone sh**ting on someone else's bots is enough to cause all of this I'm surprised Hop hasn't torn my throat out by now with the amount I've sh** on his build style.

Also good of you to drag this whole sh**show over onto ARC. Totally relevant there, and a clear sign of your efforts to "fix" things.

All in all, pretty piss poor response to someone not liking your bots. You can side with who you like, but I'm sure I and many others would appreciate you not trying so hard to spin events to make it look like you did nothing wrong. Was it sh**ty of us to talk about your bots behind your backs? Yeah. Have you guys also done a bunch of sh**ty stuff too? Absolutely.

Edit:
Just for clarity I'll list some of the sh**ty stuff done you've done:
  • Doxxed Hoppin's girlfriend because of an internet argument (Sagaris)
  • Repbombing people on GTM because they disagreed with/annoyed you (All of you)
  • Complained about people sh**talking behind people's backs, only to make a server specifically for the purpose of doing it yourself (All of you)
  • Joined in on sh**talking people only to tell them that people were doing it, while glossing over your own involvemennt
  • Dragged totally irrelevant arguments to sites such as ARC just to try to find someone who'll validate your opinion

Gonna repeat what I said in discord

Really excellent as usual Neon. Your build style is probably my favourite of anyone still building IRL.

Only change I'd recommend is putting a counterweight on the bottom of your axe shaft. It'll really improve the speed of your axe swing and the reliability of your self-righting. Try to get at least a 40kg one on there.

Interestingly there was one overhead spinner once equipped with a balanced (god knows how he did that) single toothed weapon. IIRC it was described as "unstable and sometimes hitting too hard" and never actually used.

The videos of the second, third and fourth tournament are all there in my hard drive (in low quality), I just have to upload them through my unstable internet connection. Btw what's an upload site that you guys usually use?
I've built a few single tooth discs myself and yeah they're a real nightmare to balance, you pretty much have to do it by trial and error.

In terms of uploading we normally use YouTube, but as far as I'm aware that may not be available in China. I'd just upload them to any site you're familiar with and post a link here.

Huh... So I didn't know IRL building was a thing here. Since now I do, I actually have smth to share.

During the first Chinese tournament, there was kind of like an IRL tournament, but separate to the main one. It was different from IRL in that parts clipping into one another was allowed, but the robots must resemble an actual robot that exists. With the focus on mimicking the looks of real robots, some builders put so many tiny parts into their robots that the game would just crash during a match. The Chinese "IRL" was then cancelled due to that reason.

Through competing in the tournaments I realised something: there's a limit to human ability Looking like a real life robot and functioning like a real robot are sometimes very different. Take the example of any spinner robot. The motors in our version is significantly more powerful than the stock ones (which contributes a lot to the spinner meta, but spinner meta itself is realistic, at least in China), and these motors still struggle to match the spinner motors in the real world. With the slow speed comes greater bite depth across the board and single tooth blades become totally unnecessary. Lower speed also decreases gyro effects on spinners, allowing them to be made larger and heavier without affecting the drivability. The bar spinner of Bite Force is usually regarded as on the lighter side of the spectrum, and in our version of the game a 100cm DSL bar + 2 Typhoon teeth would also be considered light. However, even on the largest chassis available in game the 100cm DSL weapon still looks way out of proportion if it was judged by the standards of real life. Instead of resemblance, I personally prefer "functional representation". If a part in game serves the same purpose as a part in real life, then no matter how crazy it looks in game I would still use it.
On our side, IRL generally focuses more on the "looks like real bots" than "fights like real bots", though there we do attempt to try and cover both bases as best as possible. Our spinners motors for example tend not to be buffed (though there is one tournament that has experimented with increasing their power), so our spinners don't really launch opponents like real spinners do. As you mention in your post, single tooth spinners, which are very common in real robots, don't really work in RA2, but nonetheless our IRL ruleset tends to encourage using fewer teeth rather than more, for the reasons that most real bots tend towards smaller numbers of teeth, and also to try to avoid spinners being totally dominant (Vertical spinners are still by far the strongest bot type in most arenas for us, even with these limits.

I think your ruleset and how you go about your tournaments is really interesting, and I'd very much like to see in more detail how exactly the 'meta' in Chinese tournaments works out. Would it be possible to record the next tournament that happens in your community? I think a lot of people here, me included, would be intrigued to see how it plays out.

2 wheel drive bots just seem to straight up not work this update. The chassis seems to have a ton of friction with the floor which makes bots unable to turn, and motors seem to have less torque too which doubles this issue.

Will report further after I play the update more

For new robots, or existing ones?  I set motors to their IRL torque-speed curves for this build.  They should be a little different than before.  Balance is really important in general.  Does shifting the weight distribution help?
This was on existing bots

Shoot.  I will take a look at it next week to see what I can do.
Just to clarify, by existing bots, I mean bots that I built in a previous update, rather than the AI bots in game
