Everything changed in 2.2, check out the stats on the gothic axe. The DP is crazy!

Gothic axe it is then. Apologies for my misinformation

Steel wedge hp is gonna be a lot lower than what you'd probably want from an axe head.

Any recommendations for something better? I've been having a really hard time finding something that deals damage, has decent HP and doesn't look awful/fit with the aesthetic of the bot

Zirconium looks nice, just like your other bots, but that axe needs upgrading. A steel wedge isn't gonna cause much damage and isn't gonna last too long either. If I were you, I'd upgrade the VDMA to a Storm and bolt on a frenZy hammer, a gothic axe, or just a big ol' spike or three. You'd have to downgrade some of the armour panels and reposition some of the internals but it'd be worth it.

I actually switched to the steel wedge from an iron spike because it wasn't doing enough damage in it's original configuration. Gothic Axe is crap from what I hear and Frenzy hammer is too long and I hate how it looks. My original iteration of this bot used a storm piston, but like Guldenflame said, battery usage was something of an issue and it also meant that the wheels were exposed due to how wide the storm piston is. I'm pretty sure the VDMA actually has more firing power (300 according to the component description) than a storm piston anyway (Which only has 200 according to its description)
Deathstalker uses a gothic axe powered by a Storm burst motor, and it's doing pretty well so far, so it can't be that bad... I'll definitely have to try it your way though, just to see for myself.

I'm just basing that off of Naryar's DSL building tips page. That's in 2.1 from what I can tell though, so maybe the Gothic Axe got buffed in 2.2, but I'm not sure

Triple post :(. Been experimenting with IRL Axe/Hammer bots lately. Below is the culmination of that experimentation. Zirconium. 2X NPC Fasts with Hypno Wheels for drive. 1X VDMA R/P large burst motor for the weapon. 2X Slow Mag Snappers for the srimechs. Pics below:

Double post again, sorry. New bot though. This is Comitatus. Took me about twelve complete redesigns for me to be happy with this one. 2X NPC fasts with Pussycat wheels for drive, 2X Storm Front Hinge Pistons for the weaponry. Getting the flipper so it actually had any power was a massive pain in the arse, but it's pretty decent now. Pics below

A bit plain, bit I think its pretty cool

Yeah, it's pretty conventional. Not doing anything too outlandish until I've properly learned the ropes of proper building techniques.

Another one. This is Echus. It's a middleweight (390.7 KG so I have a little bit of weight to play with) flipper. Pretty conventional. 2X VDMA front hinge pistons for the weapon. 2X TWM3R Drive for Drive. Pics below

Use paint.net my dude, best image editor

Downloaded it. Way better than GIMP. Thanks for the recommendation man, should have a skin for KiteRacer relatively soon.

Cheers man. Means a lot coming from seasoned veterans.

Here's another one. This is KiteRacer. A weird sort of hybrid between Storm 2 and Smidsy. 4X Fast NPCs for drive, weapons are a lifting jaw with beater bars and nightmare teeth, powered by a slow mag snapper. No skin at the moment because GIMP is incredibly frustrating to use compared to Photoshop. Feedback Welcome

Pussycat wheels will do the job... and they are very thin.. for better protection..
Also.. where did you find the stock RA2 UI and HUD??

Pussycat wheels aren't great from my experience. In terms of HUD mine never changed when I installed DSL.

:thumbup i like it, other than the taz wheels because i have a personal grudge against the skin of them

I'm not really a fan of them either, I'll probably switch them to tornado wheels. Only reason I went with them is that they seemed to make the old configuration with the skirt wedge have a lower front ground clearance.

Super basic skin on Bocuma as I learn the ropes of skinning.

Another bot. The Machinist. Attempted IRL drum bot. 2X Perm-132s for weapon power, 2X Fast NPCs for drive. Pretty conventional apart from me going batsh** with flippermakers at the rear (Let me know how you think that looks by the way, I'm on the fence about it)

Very solid looking flipper. Nice work.

Thanks man. Learning a lot from you guys.

Apologies for double post, but I've made some changes to Bocuma. Skirt wedge is gone in favour of what is (hopefully) a  more IRL solution. Wedgelets made from small wedges (This was the only solution I could find that was as effective as the skirt wedge). Spikes are also no longer clipping with the chassis. Only issue is that the skirt hinge and extenders that they're mounted on clip through the chassis a bit. Looking for feedback on if the new solutions are better or worse than what I previously had

Nice avatar. Interesting bot. Try getting the spikes completely outside of the chassis, it will look better.

Best album of all time. I agree that the spikes would look better completely outside of the chassis. I'll try to fiddle with it some more, but it took me a while to even get them to their current state. Thanks for the feedback

I'm learning a few things from this thread as well: need to replace my flipper bots' skirt wedges with wedgelets. Duly noted.

Bocuma looks pretty neat too, it won't have Delta levels of power but should cause plenty of damage with all those spike strips. The batteries should actually be fine, as the Storm front-hinge burst motors can eat through your battery life surprisingly quickly. Looking good! You seem to be improving faster than I am :P

Definitely won't be as powerful as Delta, but should be faster, more manoeuvrable and better armoured. Still has more than enough power to OOTA bots with ease. Cheers for the compliments

Redditbots have a very funny definition of what would be possible/workable in real life. :)

Perhaps :). Nonetheless, I'd be stupid not to exploit their slightly questionable definition of IRL.

New Tommib's looking great!
Really really not a fan of the wedge on that new one though, IRL should always be about making something look super real, and that doesn't. If you need it, why not try moving the hinge backwards in the chassis so only a short amount of wedge pops out. It'll look a lot netter for it.
Alternatively go for 'wedgelets' made with the flipper makers in Extenders or the Steel/Titanium wedges found under the Beater Bar menu in Weapons!

I did originally have it shorter but it wasn't as effective. I'm not really going for a 100% IRL build with this bot (At least not 100% IRL by GTM's rules) as I'm entering it into the next Redditbots, which allows skirt wedges. If there's a rule change I can always remove the skirt wedge and go for something different, but for now I think i'll stick with the way it is.
