Discussion / Re: The problem with competitive IRL in RA2
« on: July 03, 2018, 01:37:50 PM »
Bajur brings up a good amount of points, in that IRL is an advocate for people who don't necessarily have the means to create their own combat robot, the IRL meta allows them to make something plausable and accessable, whilst being interactive and I think that's why Ra2 is more appealing to something like ARC, it has an intractability that gives defined results in matches.

Spectator sport is the best way of describing IRL, there is no real want for competitiveness, outside a few outliers. However, there will always be effective ways of doing stuff due to it being a game that is balances by few factors and a lack of changing meta. As touched on by TheRoboteer, the comparison between the competitive meta's is ridiculous and balancing should be done for each meta, not under the version of the game, this is why IRL tournaments have all these limitations, mainly due to having a wider range of designs and not allowing cheap ways to win that undermine the core or IRL. Finally, on this mess of points, it's taboo to by tryhard as by your own logic, tryharding doesn't create cool looking bots which, again, like you've said, isn't what IRL is.

Personally I think if you want to bring unrealistic metas back to life, I'd suggest, hosting more and get ways to make playing the game as a game interesting. With players new to the meta, glitches are such a overburden to learn, you have to know and somewhat master all of them to make something viable which I don't think is particularly fun.

I still love that war head type spinner. I hope you keep showing off your bots on this showcase as they look amazing. Quick question. Do you Colour the bot in the software that you used to make it or was it in something else? if that makes any sense

Fusion 360 is the software I use to add the final colours, but it defines groups by colours so I section them with base colours using tinkercad

Edit: Thanks for the compliments on I95, it's probs what I'd turn into a BW given the chance.

I really like terminus, especially dem wheel arrows. Also, Echo feels like what this years brutus should've been.
Woke wheel arrows are standard now and I agree that Echo is what Brutus shoulve been, tho I took a good amount of inspiration from Shard, FW in the UK

Wow these look nice but i think theres a pinned thread for this in the creative showcase
Done so, thanks for notifying me and thank you for the kind words.

I'm gonna let all of these into A New BOTM, under the "Replicas & Custom" category. Bloody lovely stuff.

If you want to go ahead

So, how about the flatmotor?

Flatmotor is useful in things such as very light weightclasses and compact drum spinners. Idk if it needs to be changed.

I suggest increasing the weight of the current one as this makes low weight classes use the 'slow' version

Hot take: Typhoon teeth are a bigger problem then mechavore disks (at least at HW level) and should be first in line to get a nerf
If so, I suspect the problem lies in the x2 stat multiplier for components with one-dimensional normals.  The teeth actually have 1.5-D normals and this may make a bigger difference than I thought.

It's probably that combined with the shape of the tooth, being that it can be applied in any circumstance, I don't think tho it should be given increase weight, but a statistically nerf, given that with a weight increase, you'd have to go back and edit every bot that uses them to fit weightclass.

Damm, these just look great! could we see Hop bots IRL  :really_makes_you_think:
Ive really wanted to try and get into doing CAD but never known how where to start with it

I'm using tinkercad for mine, then rendering it in Fusion 360.

I really like the Moe drum spinner, love to see new takes on weapon types. The vert in my opinion has weapon supports that could probably do with simplifying

It will be IRL antweights
Have fun getting entries for that
It's IRL, it'll get entries.
Ok that's true IRL will get a lot of people intrested. It's just that antweights is such as an odd category too base it around. I can see it being quite difficult for some players to build too that weight catogorey. Although what do I know

I doubt many users will enter antweights, like I like IRL and even I'm not interested in that
