Becoming a Technophobe
« on: July 16, 2009, 02:25:03 AM »
" Technophobia is the fear or dislike of advanced technology or complex devices, especially computers. " - Wikipedia

Would a true technophobe quote wikipedia on facebook? No, but I am very quickly leaning towards unplugging myself from the web. I'm not afraid of technology itself, I'm afraid that technology is distancing people. and I'm afraid that it's being done on purpose.

Most technology up until recent years was created with good intentions (to make life easier) but now I feel as if we are being flooded with new things meant only to keep us busy. Everything has to be networked, you can connect your 10 different social networking sites to your email to your phone to your blog and back again. and it's supposed to make you more productive. but in reality all it does is keep you constantly within reach of advertising and an overload of information.

Twitter is really what put me over the edge. Sure it's neat how fast news can spread on a real time network when thousands upon thousands of people are all talking about the same thing at once. but it's maddening to sort through bunches of worthless 140 character messages all with links to another page with more information just to find out something dumb that you could have waited to find out later from a newspaper. for example, the death of michael jackson. Do you know him personally? I didn't think so. so chances are you don't need to be alerted 10 seconds after he's gone from this earth.

I need to quit the internet. I've shared too much personal information that is readily swept up, not even by actual people, but robot programs that scour the internet and collect data about you. I have no way of knowing who knows what about me.

Do kids even do homework anymore? Who has time when you have to update all your page status' every hour. plus read every other persons that you've ever met, after taking an ad sponsored survey, looking at pictures of your friends' cousins trip to the mall of america, and reading 4 blog posts about what a sh**ty day someone had.

Maybe I'm just getting old but I can't keep up with it all anymore nor am I interested in doing so. Google is all I need. If I want to know something, I look it up, and then I get off the computer again.

I know it's been pointed out by many people (more qualified than myself) many times that people are spending hours online but it's now starting to worry me.

Texting is so people stop actually talking to each other.
the internet is one big distraction from reality, you are plugged in to a giant network of advertising.

they collect information about us, by entertaining us, and don't think they won't use it against us when they need to.

THERE'S NOT GOING TO BE ANYONE LEFT TO JOIN THE REVOLUTION WHEN EVERYONES FAT ASS IS STUCK SITTING BEHIND A SCREEN. The world is ****ed up and everyones to damn busy on the internet to realize it. The government can get away with murder and no one will know about it but the government probably knows your name, address, phone number, your favorite color, music, and everyone you talk to from your damned facebook.

YOU CAN'T ENACT CHANGE IN THE WORLD BY SITTING ON YOUR LAPTOP. THAT PETITION YOU JUST SIGNED PROBABLY DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE, IT WAS NEVER INTENDED TO, IT WAS A DUMMY PAGE BEING USED TO DISPLAY ADS THAT SOMEBODY HOPED YOU'D CLICK ON SO THEY CAN MAKE MONEY.

**** I HATE 2009. WHERE HAVE ALL THE PEOPLE GONE? I'm lonely..

--------------

"Reality is becoming for us entertainingly mediated, with nature itself becoming a filmic simulation of reality with media access from our living rooms. We watch gourmet cooks prepare complex meals on TV while increasing our consumption of convenience foods. We become increasingly sedentary while accessing escalating amounts of mass sport.

The result of this overload? A paralysis that keeps us from taking social or political action, that confines us to consume as directed by the images created by advertisers. A paralysis that cripples public discourse. A paralysis that deadens the vitality of tradition and fosters dispersonalization. "
leaving this space blank until RA3 is released.

No, S-32. That was made clear in his first statement.  He's noting that society is addicted to pre-occupational information that keeps us from more content larger themes that are the real basis of a society: such as face-to-face relationships, personal introspection for growth,... and like Rome we make order outside of us(stronger walls), while socially corrupting from the inside out.

Hey, HX.  Seen lots of your work.  Nice to see people thinking outside the box...

This is the only website I frequent, and I do not own a cell phone.

I do plan to attempt world domination at one point in my life. Care to join the cause? I'll put a stop to this madness. Someday....

And I am also a minor technophobe.

While I don't have no Facebook, Myspace, mobile phone (cellphone) or any of that crap, I'm still doomed to gaming on the PC almost as long as physically possible. Didn't use to be so bad, now it's getting a bit boring.. but still it continues.

As well as me. RA2 is just much better than shooting, shooting and again shooting.

RA2 is better than a First person shooting game whatttttttt???????????(I like RA2 but not that much, or at least not to make crazy statments like that lol). U people can not be serious:Confused:, a 2004 Robot fighting game that the online is so freakin laggy ur better off entering tournments and letting people AI ur bot is better than: HALO 3,CALL OF DUTY 4, Far Cry 2, or even COUNTER STRIKE](The online is way better and u can buy mics and actually interact with people besides boring posting, AND the Graphics compared to RA2 "Funny") u guys are some real comedians:lol:. I Think u guys need to get out the Robot lab and buy a Xbox 360 or PS3 and wake up to the real world in 2009 or stop playing RA2 24/7 and have an open mind about different games that dosent have to to do with robots:-D. As for Facebook and Myspace I can understand that, Facebook it's not for everybody but it's not lame or stupid It's a good way to stay in touch with friends and family especially if all ur friends are in college's all over the place and they don't come home into Janurary and May when there semester ends. As for cellphones I find it very hard not to have one I would hate to have to be at my house every time just to make a freakin phone call to one of my friends or anybody. Besides my cell phone is tight it's like a mini pc:-D : I can play Sega,Snes ,GBA, Playstaion 1, DOOM and all the expansions, and QUAKE(my favorite). Also I just put Windows 7 in it which is freakin sweat and like I said before Touchscreen is the Sh!t
