Robot Arena 2 Lite
« on: July 22, 2011, 05:16:05 PM »
A little project I was doing. RA2L is the standard RA2 V1.4 game, but everything that is not of use to the game has been removed. Future additions, such as compression and smaller .bmps for components will be added after I see what you think of this. The idea behind this is that because it's a smaller file, the game'll have less to load, thus causing less lag. A DSL version might be made, but I'd probably remove all the replicas because I'm not bothering to resize every component in DSL (You seen how many there are?) So, yeah. Tell me what you think of this, then I'll upgrade it along the way.

Note; 87MB of stuff has been shaved off of this so far.

V1:https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/5070Robot Arena 2 Lite.zip

V2:https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/Robot Arena 2 Lite V2.zip

V3: (COMING TOMMOROW)

Stuff Improved so far;
Pointless Files Removed (DirectX install, Gamespy, Game Registration...)
Pointless Components Removed (Hovercraft, Magnet, Flamethrower, Cannon)
Pointless Arenas Removed (FlexTop and Half Circle)
BBEANS Arena added
Arena Textures Smallened

To do;
Compress Files
Smallen component files
Smallen UI files

Nice idea. I used to use a similar game on my old computer due to lag.

I definitely could of used something like this a long time ago.. I deinstalled Ra2 some time ago from my PC to free up space on it, and been somewhat missing it ever since. I seemingly 'misplaced' my Ra2 disc so I can't re-install it either.

I don't think a light version of DSL should be made though, it just seems wrong since DSL is a mod and not a complete game in of itself. But that's my own personal thought, and I've come to learn that no-one cares what I think anymore. <.<

*Puts hand up*

I do.

Oh, by the way, thanks for all the :thumbup and all, made me smile for the first time in about 2 weeks.

Expect an upgraded version, with simplified .BMP's in order to reduce battle lag, soon.

(NOTE TO SELF; DO NOT EDIT THE MOTOR'S .BMP'S. I dunno why, but they really hate to be edited with.)

Question: Should I simplify the arena's .BMP's as well, to reduce battle lag further?

To be honest, I think that you could delete 1/2 of the arenas and replace them with custom arenas that lag less and get away with it for the better.
I'm talking no more...
Metal Skull (Stupid)
Compressor (Buggy Hazards)
Half Circle (Worthless)
Bridge of Doom (The Bridge isn't doomful enough)
Lumazone (RedlineM's is better)
Flextop (All luck)

The thing is, the competitions in-game use them. Therefore, I wouldn't be able to get rid of them without doing some .txt editing, which would probably wind up with me having to do some .exe editing, which we can't do. We're better off just sticking with what we can actually do rather than trying and failing.

Nope. No .exe editing required. Just edit events.txt.

How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

Oh. Ok then. I'll remove the Flextop, and might remove the Half Circle and Bridge Of Doom, and replace them with the BBEANS arena.

Well, Ok then.

That's now at the first post. Could ya thumbs up me bro? I know it seems like I'm whoring out here, but it's really quite hard work. I see now why DSL3's taking so long.

Also, Sys32 called you a B**ch on Steam.

This is a really good idea actually. Some components can be argued to beused sometimes though. Bracket wedges, E-Wedges, Battle Axes, but some like Forklift arms could go.

You should leave ballasts in though.  :trollface
I built that big robot on that TV show that time

Combat Zone
Lumazone (for the purpose of KOTH ability)
Claw Top (for the purpose of Tabletop ability)

And added in all the Low Lag arena's

Now from my point of view I actually like fighting in the Half Circle Arena so I think you should remove the lumazone instead.

I've moved to other forums. Under a different name. This is where it all began.

The Half Circle is one of the most lag filled stock areas due to hazard content..

Not good for a mod based around online play
