ra2 portable
« on: September 17, 2009, 07:41:20 PM »
this may be in the wrong section, but i couldn't find any that would suit it.

a long way back i had the idea for making ra2 into a portable thing. Since we dont have the source code we cant port it to any handheld game counsels or ipod/ pdas.

so i get this really tiny sbc for my teleprecence robot.

and i think"if only i had a screen on it and a micro keyboard thing, i could make it into a hand-held game counsel"
and thats where this idea came from...

i have already shelled out the 300 dollars for this thing and am using it for my teleprecence robot. eventually i will make it into the hand-held thing that will be able to clip onto my robot to control it, and unclip when i want to use it a hand-held console.
right now it is booted with damn small linux and is working quite well. if i put, say windows embeded xp, i willbe able to run ra2 on it. win xp is only 1.4 gb(dsl or damn small linux is 50 mb:)) so it will fit onto a 2gb usb drive or memory card, but since i need ra2, ra2dsl, directx and a couple other games on it, im thinking more along the lines of 4 or 8 gb.
there will be wifi on it and maybe 3g.

It would be better and easier if we could port ra2 to linux or ipod/iphone, but this works for now.
i will have updates when i get the screen.

are you joking? scaling down the image of the game to a ipod screen? that will suck, stacking probably would be near impossible

the screen i am looking at has more than 800by 600 resolution and i would implement some type of "step mouse"(buttons) so you could make it stack easily.

im not intending for this to be my main ra2 thing, just to have fun while im  away from my computer.

Good. Stacking is unrealistic anyway.

Sorry dude, but you're an idiot.
This thing has no Graphics hardware, no WinAPI, no PE loading, nothing.

actually it does come w/ a 32mb graphix card in the pci slot.
and yes it can boot windows xp(bart pe edition) off of a usb stick(ive tried it.)
i have done ra2 on it, but that was on an external power supply(not batt) normal computer monitor(not tiny one) and normal mouse + keyboard.
so yes it will work.

As far as running this on Linux...

My laptop runs RA2 on Ubuntu 9.04 with up to date wine and my cracked dx10 (Which also runs great on XP...) although it does like to lock up more than Crysis. I'll play around more after I get 9.1

Would be very fun, but we would need to re make the entire game. Could maybe get Nintendo to do it...
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.
