Is it possible to have the pit lower slower like IRL?

Hey awesome stuff Wham,

A new RW arena was on my to-do list for aaagges but never got around to doing it..

Curious, are you actually making this arena from GMF files or in a 3D program?

It should be- if the Deathpit covers on The Octagon can be made to retract slowly, I don't see why they can't.

Yeah, but that's horizontal (as are other pit hazards on the game). It's apparently something to do with the gravity.

He is using a 3D program ATM. I'm pretty sure that the screenshot that he took is from a CAD program.

The speed at which the pit is moving doesn't matter because it is just a 3D model. He has to add the hinges and prismatics himself after exporting what he has to a GMF file. Also, it shouldn't be too difficult to slow the pit down (gravity can be easily compensated).

Can you elevate the arena about a metre up from the floor?  The OOTA-zone floor was actually level with the bottom of the Pit.

Wow this is looking brilliant! :claping If there's any textures from RW:ED you think you're missing just let me know!
And as far as the "3, 2, 1" and other stuff is concerned, this was how I did it on mine in case it is any help. I managed to get music to play during a match, so I made a custom track with RW music and a recording of the "3, 2, 1" from one of my RW DVDs at the start of it. Unfortunately it often isn't in time depending on how long it takes to load, but better than nothing! I also replaced the end of match commentry with recordings of "Cease" and the SFX that go with it. And managed to find a recording of what sounds like the exact same siren used on the show on the net so I added that too. In case any of that is of help, but obviously need to finish the model first haha!

Actually Sonny, I believe the Pit was very slightly shallower than the OOTA Zone floor- they would've needed some more space in the bottom to accomodate the lowering/raising mechanism.

@Joe - Well if you would like a quick mesh... ;) And it's all currently being done in Milkshape - so it's literally just a mesh atm. However if you would like to have a go converting it to a GMF (ASE is the closest to a GMF - it can be converted with a little changing here and there, however I have tried an arena and it doesnt work so far, so something like this would be more in your area of expertise...)

@Resetti - The arena floor is level with the bottom of the pit :P

@Ducky - If you wouldnt mind! I'm really in need of all 3 skins for the garage doors, and the remaining 'number pannells' (the ones that go around the audience area perimiter). As for sounds, anything would be appreciated. No guatentee on what could be used, but might aswell have more of what I need than not enough :P

As for an update, not much ATM as been busy, however I have 2 weeks off now :) Sooo hopefully....
Damn I should probably put something fancy in this bit huh?

Maybe I can help with that. My personal two choices for background music (I've seen it be used for Arenas in the past, so I'm quite sure that it'll be possible to implement) would be one of these two pieces-

This one was used for the TV Studio Arena in the PC/Xbox version of Extreme Destruction.

This one was used as the fight music for Series 1-4 of Robot Wars itself, and also as one of two themes for the TV Studio Arena in the PC version of Arenas of Destruction.

Come to think of it, it might be a good idea to use both, but have them alternate for each fight you have in the Arena- much like in Arenas of Destruction. Would that be possible? If not, don't worry.

Okay these appear to be all of the arena textures, hopefully I havent missed any! https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/8956Robot Wars Arena Textures.rar There are only 2 garage door textures, so the right hand door image must be flipped to use as the left door.
The full soundtrack from all of the Robot Wars games is available here in .zip files http://robotwars.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:StalwartUK/Robot_Wars_music so these could be made of use too.

No worries! I was soo happy when I came across those music downloads on the RW Wiki! And ahh well I don't actually own AoD on PC, only on PS2. I had a nosey on that a bit ago and the resolution and music seem to be poorer on PS2 versions. E.g. the main menu background image is of a resolution of 256x256, so it would probably look quite poor on higher res PC monitors. The RW:ED PC version UI is of higher resolution, but arguably doesnt look as nice as the AoD one. But yes it would be nice to have a Robot Wars UI  Personally I'd wanna try and make it look like another Robot Wars game rather than RA2 hehe

By the way, would it be possible to add the ball of smoke for the Pit for when a robot falls in? That'd be very cool to have.

@Ducky - Ahh, no problem :) What else do you think you'd be able to get your hands on though...? (E.g. meshes...)

@GoldenFox - Maybe... it would most likely be the smoke particle effect, but I dunno if one of the more advanced modders would be able to tell me if this would be possible?

And as for making into a working arena... it is really out of my league for sure. I've tried already working between ASE and GMF, but everytime I keep hitting some form of snag (e.g. No collision, crashes game when clicking attach, positioning is completely messed up...) However the mesh always does show up, so that's some success I guess! So as i've said already - someone more advanced would have to do the converting part for me. I know I've said this already, but I'm really sure this time. I'm happy to give out the mesh when I'm happy that it's done (should be not that much longer...) But unfortunately guys, I can only do the mesh and skin. If you want this to be a working arena, I'll need a second person involved.

Could make our own Robot Wars UI from some game files and internet textures at some point. And ahh actual meshes and things I dont really have a clue about, I'm more the graphics side aha. Although looking in an "Arenas" folder, each arena has a ".are" and ".col" file if that means anything to anyone?
And oohh yes the plume of smoke that would be a nice touch!

Ah, OK. That's a bit of a blow, but if you ask one of the more experienced Arena Modders, I'm sure they'll be happy to help- after all, if you've already provided the meshes and most of the visuals, it should hopefully be quite easily possible for them to transfer the code and all.

Ducky - I might be able to do something.... Is there anything aswell for the robots? (Like the components, bodies, ect.?)

GoldenFox - Hehe I would ask, but I don't want to come across as an annoying noob :') I'd rather someone say that they wouldn't mind helping rather than me pestering them haha :P And well here's to hoping... :P

Good news! Few more details and I dare say that this mesh will be finished! :)

Not at all, man- you're quite established here as it is, so if you can present the finished mesh once it's ready, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help you out. After all, it's a good time for an update to the RW Arena (Something which a lot of people I know on here would love to see become a reality), and if it's just a matter of coding it- if you ask nicely, someone will definitely help with that part.    :approve:

And that's fantastic to hear- once they're on and sorted out, would you mind providing a few pictures of the finished mesh? Thanks.
