Would it be unwise to try using the bttb dsl 2.1 ai pack in dsl 2.2? With some slightly different components present, i can see how it might not go very smoothly.

Ah, never mind, I misread the part about importing old bots from DSL 2.1, so i assume it'll work out just fine.

I have found a slight issue with the orbit cam. It lags a lot and doesn't follow the robot around very well. With some arenas the tracking works fine, but most of then it's very slow in following the robot.

That's a good point, have you made Judge bursts irrelevant by changing regular component stats Click? Would be nice for no cheat components to be needed in IRL tournaments.

I did; the front hinge burst motors should negate the need for Judge bursts.  The Judge burst is still a bit more powerful than the stock bursts, but the stock bursts won't make bots Havok around the arena ever.

However, the Judge burst should still work.  I didn't change any of its stats.  In fact Vlad the Impaler still uses it for self-righting... I'll look into this crash issue.

Firebeetle had this same issue, but it was in every version of RA2, not just DSL.  He has Windows 10 so I thought it might be something to do with that.  Is this true for you too?

its in every version, yes
i'm not sure if its windows 10, i cant remember if it happened on 7... it may have something to do with the PC just being too powerful

That makes sense if true.  FB just got a really high-end custom-built desktop computer, while I'm still playing on my laptop (which is pretty high-end too, just not for gaming).

I was wondering if the action cam will be included in a future update?

Good idea, if I release a patch I'll throw the action cam in.

alright, first impressions:

-storm piston seems inferior to the vdma's because it's air consumption was more than doubled for a 50% increase in power. and apparently compressed air is more expensive weightwise in dsl 2.2.

-I felt the amp costs were high for burst motors but now that every battery outputs a whole nuclear power plant's worth of amps, amps are now somehow pointless.

-strengthening the heavier weapons was really needed. :thumbup

-i like a lot the free-moving metal hinges, will be needed in IRL and some DSL-S builds.

-it would be nice if we had the piercing and concussion values in the weapon description, after DP, so we can see what kind of weapon it is. (If you want i can help you with that)

-removing the "every weapon and their mother has normals" thing that was in the dsl3 beta was needed. everything having normals = frustration.

-right now how you explained normals is confusing for newbies. for me it's mostly understandable (even some cases are confusing me) because i'm used to DSL 2.1 and how normals work, but a newbie or even a guy who doesn't mod will find it not helping.

-im not so fond of the wheel balance. mostly all wheels are the same, some are slightly grippier than others at the cost of HP and some are slightly tougher than HP at the cost of grip, but it's not really visible. I feel that we should have more choice in wheels, like some wheels being really grippy but then again very fragile, and some wheels having bad grip but doubling as armor.

Also we don't have any high grip wheels anymore, the "high" grip wheels are huge and unwieldy. So that means the bots will be more slow, which means less exciting fights.

-The large batteries are very good, the only drawback being size. I'm not quite sure how this infinite amp output is going to work, but you tested it, right ?

Also the best battery is now the battlepack... i always felt WP836E was supposed to be the heavy duty battery. It's not THAT strong compared to the ant batts as well. But you apparently took battery size into balance considerations which is good.

I'll give more detailed feedback when i'll be more familiar with the game.

Thank you for this.  I mostly agree with your impressions and expected to tweak things like wheel balance at some point.  (The basic formula will remain the same, but I've been thinking of adding more "contrast" in grip/HP ratios.)  The only new issue here for me is compressed air balance.  I'll have to take a second look at that.  It was one of the very first things I rebalanced so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a little off.

Also burst motor amps shouldn't be pointless.  With the new power system you only get a finite number of shots with burst motors before your battery runs out, so you have to decide how many shots you think you'll need and then make sure you have enough batteries for that.  Or gamble on KO'ing the opponent ASAP.

How will the AI handle that?

Maybe add much smaller smartzones, so it only takes good shots? Also, there is AI that only strikes when a chassis is within the smartzone, which could help. But it's a useless AI when the opponent is a Flying Guillotine or the chassis is just out of the way.
