Soldier by a long shot- I only use demo for goofing around. The caber is so cheap..

Imma break the combo, and go for Demoman, myself. I find his weapons much more useful and better suited for multiple roles, and he's good for moving around quickly both horizontally and vertically. I'm currently learning with the Expert's Ordnance  (Loch & Load and the Ullapool Caber), and I'm already getting some good kills.

On the flipside, Soldier's too slow for my liking and the Rocket Launcher doesn't nearly seem as powerful as everyone makes it out to be unless it's Crit-boosted.

Demo dishes more damage via direct hits if you can get them, otherwise you either dish out no damage completely with the loch, or get lucky with the regular launcher. Regular stickies are cheap, as is the caber. I myself use the normal grenade launcher with the sticky jumper and the caber (if snipers are annoying me) or the half zatoichi.

Soldier can jump easily as quickly as demo (without the sticky jumper) for less self damage- its just more difficult. The rocket launcher may deal less damage than the grenade launcher on direct hits, but with it you can juggle people into airshots more easily, and its easier to aim and deal damage with in general.

Demoknight > Typical Soldier though.

Lies. They charge at you? Launch a rocket at their feet and watch as they miss you completely, then either follow up with shotgun blasts or more rockets. Demoknights rarely kill me 1 v1, unless its an enclosed space...and even then, they don't come out of it very well. They're just too easy to kill imo..

Demoknights immediately gimp their own team just because they're there.

The shield is much more useful as an escape tool rather than an offensive utility. It saved my ass more than once when I see a Medic pair coming up and I'm alone.

I usually do better as the Soldier.
Also, Demomen freeze my game when I detonate sticky mines on LOADS of enemies.

You can't run away from them because when they spam the Charge, they're faster than most characters, and most of them kill characters in 2 or 3 hits. My Scout, no matter how hard I hit them with the FaN, usually always meets his demise by a Demoknight. I can't run from them, I can out jump them (Atomizer ftw) I can't get enough hits on them with anything and the atomic drink takes too long to use.

You're a Scout. You're not supposed to take anyone on head on. You're not supposed to let anyone know where you are and where you're coming from. And you're not supposed to use the FaN or the Bonk that way. Get back to the original Scattergun and pistol (any pistol works fine). Pick the Demos off at range with your secondary, and as soon as they charge to you, meatshotkilllawl

Most of the time when I'm talking about playing as Scout, I'm talking about ctf and/or special delivery. Which is basically what Scout is proficient for. Demoknight is a class that is all about taking people head-on, and when the other team knows where I am and where I'm coming from (ie holding the intelligence) it's hard NOT to be forced into taking them head-on. I use the FaN because it hurts and +knockback and I use Bonk to get past sentries, when I'm holding the intelligence.

Yes. I'm a Scout. I realize that. Normally that means I'm in, and I'm out. No time to pick off Demos. Depending on where I'm going there are Snipers and Soldiers ready to pick off the Demos for me.

And that's the miracle of Compression Blasts for you   :approve:

These. These are helpful.

That's funny, a Demoknight is much better suited for CTF rather than Scout (haven't played much SD yet to do a proper analysis). With the Persuader and you can pop in and out of the intel building with ease (Sentries? You have 16 grenades.) and you can also survive a forced encounter, with a health return to boot.

Oh, and FYI, Bonk can't save you when you're already carrying the intel. Being able to get in doesn't mean you can get out alive (unless your team managed to take out the nest when you already have the intel).

I've never seen a Demoknight go for the flag but I'll look out for that, that does sound reasonable.

And yeah, Bonk can't save me there even though I've tried millions of times. Still, usually there's a very strategically placed Level 3 sentry that needs to be passed, so I bonk it up on the way to the intel, then I use a different path on the way out.

Here's one of my favorite dumb videos I've made for Chaos is Gaming's Team Fortress Thursday.

It's tongue-in-cheek on purpose. I've done a few and this one in particular was fun to make. It's a Do's and Dont's video, but they're not all realistic.  ;)
I play games, I've reviewed games, and now I make games. Games are fun things, aren't they?
