Usually if you take notice of how you play in other FPS games, you can pick a class that suits your playing style. In Example..

Someone who likes to rush into battle and run around shooting everything that moves, should pick Scout or Soldier. Scout is very fast and does fair damage with his scattergun, Soldier has decent health for tanking things, and the Rocket Launcher is an extremely powerful weapon. Demoknight is also a good rusher, but is limited to melee.

Someone who finds that he/she is an excellent Sniper, should play the Sniper class. Be prepared to move around a lot though, there aren't many places a Sniper can snipe from without another Sniper Sniping at that Sniper. (How's that for an Xzibit meme? Sniper snipin' yo sniper)

Someone who is good at ambushing or is a veteran MGS player might find that they are good with sneaking around as Spy, ambushing with Pyro or making elaborate traps with Demoman. Spy is a complicated class though, the mix of cloaking and disguising makes it that way. Pyro is not as sneaky as Spy, but if you find a good corner, you can pop out at enemies and torch them to death. (But that's only if you believe in magic ) Demoman, with his sticky grenade launcher, can stick grenades in places that the enemy can't see, like around the exit of a corridor, and then well.. KABLOOEY! Oh they're goin' ta hafta gloo yew back tagether, IN HELL!

And then there's those other classes, like Engineer and Medic. I'm not really sure what traits you must have to have an advantage in these classes. With Engineer, you want to focus on putting your buildings in Strategic places that make it hard for your opponent to pass, while making sure you have a view of everything (in case of those damn spahs!) Engineer is a great class to use on Control Point or Capture The Flag. Medic on the other hand, is even more unique, but dastardly simple. Heal d00ds, Uber d00ds, make sure d00ds stay alive. The 3 classes you'll want to uber are Soldiers, Heavies and Pyros. Never, EVER Uber a Spy, Sniper, Scout or Engie. And you might get away with ubering a Demoman.

In regards to playstyle, my mains being Soldier, Medic, and Pyro, and considering the servers I play at... All of my choices can fly
