yahutzee´s showcase
« on: January 25, 2012, 08:15:39 AM »
well, naryar and ACAMS told me to put my bot here, so here it is:

its weight is 656 kgs
nptc 64 (fast drive)
6 razor tips
steel bars and skirts

well, it is my crappy popup, it is only a test because it is my first bot in dsl, so i dont know which parts to use, but.. IT´S WEDGE DOES NOT WORK! i´ve redone it like 3 times, I examinated bots like mako and critical emergency and i dont know why do they wedge works and mine doesnt. so i´m listening your suggestions

PD: in the second and third pic, the wedge is up, but is just to show the bot

Hey, not bad.

You can get rid of the skirts and plow and the extenders with them because they are wasting weight. For the wedge, use a metal hinge with either a small wedge piece or some skirts (like the ones you are using for protection).
Use the big, 4kg control board and switch the drive to techno destructo wheels, add more weapons (or an angled ramming rack if you feel like it) and change those batteries to about 17-18 ants if those are large JX's.

And the chassis is pretty big

1) i know the chassis is big, i just made it for a test popup
2)with skirt do you mean the panic attack thingy?
3) the material of the hinge matters to get under bots?
4)what´s a JX?
5)thanks for the ideas!

to make the best wedges put single hinges with dsl bars and small wedge
try to build to the limit (oh its a test bot, sry)
also show what armour are using your bots, plastic and titanium are the best
pop up types bots are pretty fast try using four npc fast with technos
reduce yor chassis size
check the Naryar's dsl tips

1) i know the chassis is big, i just made it for a test popup If you want to make it better, shrink your chassis so you have more weight for other stuff, like weapons for example. Note that a smaller chassis has less hp though.
2)with skirt do you mean the panic attack thingy? Yes, those are the ones i want you to remove. Keep the steel skirts though.
3) the material of the hinge matters to get under bots? Some are better than other. Small wedge pieces are usually the best but skirts occasionally are better for some reason. I would use a dsl bar with a small wedge piece, or a titanium halfsheet with a small wedge piece on the end. you have the weight.
4)what´s a JX? That's the name of the burst motor which your weapons are on. You either have small or large.
5)thanks for the ideas! No problem, it's good to see more people building.

4 npc fasts are a bit overkill, 2 is good enough. otherwise thats basically it. You can also look in other people's showcases for ideas and tips

Oh and use 2 metal hinges on the front corners, as wide as you can preferably (wider wedges are better)

AAAARGH A WP836E BATTERY

THE LEVEL OF FAIL

MAKE IT DISAPPEAR

to make the best wedges put single hinges with dsl bars and small wedge (Unsure. Yes they do make good wedges, but it's not that simple)
try to build to the limit (oh its a test bot, sry) (Always try to build to weight limit)
also show what armour are using your bots, plastic and titanium are the best (Generally yes, but it's not always true in detal)
pop up types bots are pretty fast try using four npc fast with technos (No, this is nonsense. 4WD NPCF with Technos is overkilling it on a HW popup. What you need for a HW popup is either 4WD NPCF with hypnos or 2WD NPCF with technos)
reduce yor chassis size (Yes)
check the Naryar's dsl tips (OF COURSE !!1)

hmmm.... there's some good and some bad in this newcomer's advice. Yes, my job is also of criticizing advice.

(wider wedges are better)

You 100% sure about that ?

from what i have seen and tested wider wedges outwedge other wedges. Kinda like how double wedges are better than single wedges.

beating critical emergency ! woot!

outside

inside:
-2jx burst small motors
-8 razors
-npc motor (normal, fast was too unstable)
-6 battery packs

with weight left i will put armor on it, but later. what do you think?

PD: the backspinner is LEGENDARY (true story)

I have 2 mainly un-bot-related points
1) It's the norm to build 'realistically' in DSL - for example the spinner on the back of that last bot cuts through the mag bursts (which aren't as good as the normal green bursts, FYI)
2) Remember to crop your images down and make sure their files aren't too big - took me about a minute to load all the pics here, but could just be my connection.

And welcome! :D Let me know if you need a hand with anything.

Most interesting design, but unrealisticness is frowned upon in DSL.

1)i added te mags after the spinner , so i really dindnt see it, its going to be fixed. but, why are the green ones are better?, i mean, the magmototr weights more, shouldnt it be better?
2)will be fixed in the next version of my bot
3)thanks for your observations!

Thats the thing- you would expect that, but the mags fire at a slower speed, which is worse for flippers, hammers and popups.

A triple hybrid is probably too much for this- keep it as a popup/flipper or just a pure popup or flipper. Generally you'd have more success.

Also, when AI'd, bots generally don't go for the back of the bot, so back weapons are generally unecessary (unless you build IRL and have a special .py for it I guess). Doesn't mean back armour is bad though.

Metal hinges make the best wedges- I suggest you get rid of the spinner entirely, add two metal hinges with wedges (either steel/titanium skirts or flipper segments/dsl bar/halfsheet with a small wedge at the end). This will help you get under other bots more often.

not really, the onli problem is when it comes to drums/full body spinners, i have to be intelligent to beat wide load and grog the vengeful, but with the other you just go straight and do the job

Then you might not need the wheel guards. Get rid of those and see if you can add some more weapons or armor.

the wheel guards are needed, in the begining, y had for 4 flippers intead of 2, but when i fought vs horizontal spinners my wheels always fell off, but still i have 40kgs to use, i might add some more skirts or something like that

Yeah more skirts would probably help
