The Ranking System

I know this idea has been touched upon but i thought it might actually be a good idea. I introduce...

THE RANKING SYSTEM

For a few months now, I've been enjoying telling my friends that I'm one of the best at RA2 in the world. Some of you may think this true, some may not, but I think I'm up there. I know some other vets probably do the same at times. However, I feel it would be good to legitimize things. There's ranking systems for almost every online game out there. Why can't RA2 have one?

Here's how it would work:

The community votes on three categories. These three categories are TOP 10 Stock Builders, TOP 10 DSL Builders, and TOP 10 Programmers/Contributors. Please note that only ACTIVE members are eligible. For the people who have left, there is also The TOP 10 Members Gone Missing.

The community nominates people for one month, and at the end of that week the top 10 nominees will be chosen. They will then be listed out and the community votes on the order.

Of course, after these nominations, people can move up, down, or even lose their spot to someone else. How this would work is that every month people can nominate a change and then the community can vote on it. So, you better have a good persuading argument!

Sounds good, and since it is a democratic decisions, any flame wars may be less intense. It also seems important to note that its really just for fun. There is no real point in getting all worked up about it.
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

I was going to criticize this on the BBEANS thread earlier but after reading this, I think this could work Sage.

However, a quick question, how many people can we nominate for each category (if its only one and every choses the same five, for example, then its not a top ten but too many makes the vote counting longer).

How do we define active builder, I mean someone like Firebeetle isn't posting any more, but he's still building bots (for BBEANS at least)?  I think we should probably set a time zone for active and unactive builder (maybe a year or so)

sounds like a good idea, I doubt I will make top 10 on any though lol, maybe put all the ladders in the one thread and get ACAMS to pin it, maybe to avoid stalemates no one can nominate then selves and perhaps justification for the nomination so its not just favoritism

I think it's a decent idea. I like the idea for seeing where the rest of the community ranks people, because I have a pretty good idea of my top 10 in each category.

A vote is on opinion, kinda. Too much bias, or in other words, it's more like a popularity contest at the moment. We should use something to help, like how many bots are made, how good they are at building, how their bots test in tournaments, you know, that stuff...

Indeed, this is a good idea. This is also a good way to change our members Respect Rating, as the members are nominated, their respect can go up by one, as more people are recognizing them (making the limit to +5 points total or if the member won five times). Fear is something else and would not pertain well with this system however. But i do like it and feel that it would motivate more people to contribute for gametechmods.

Volume of robots made probably shouldn't be directly linked to builder skill.

Lots of bots made of a high quality is better than a lesser volume of high quality bots.

But say a guy who stinks made 13000 bots, and A guy who's good made 20. The guy who stinks would rank higher.

so let's say you get a high rank via quality over quantity. its that simple.

I would say that Admins and most respected people on this forum should have the right to do that.
