How do you remember your bot designs
« on: October 12, 2009, 09:55:32 AM »
When you have a brainstorm, how do you remember your bot design for later? IE do you draw it down really fast, just remember it, etc.
Please explain.

I draw it down usually, since when I have a brainstorm it's really detailed and I can't remember it later.

Mostly what S32 said, but sometimes I get a good idea and don't write it down on paper and then it is lost forever!

I have super picture memory, if I see a picture or picture something in my head, I can remember it for a long time. Weeks, sometimes even months.
This does become annoying sometimes when I feel like reading old comic books I have read, all I have to do is to see the cover and I remember most of the content >_<

Normally i think stuff up a school and come home to build it. Whenever I have a really good idea my parents actually let me stay on the computer longer because they are impressed by my robots and know that I'll forget the idea if I don't build it.

So you could say that the game remembers it for me.
I built that big robot on that TV show that time

I pretty much just throw things together and rebuild till it works and if i can't make it work the way i want ill start from scratch using the idea that i have come up with. Sometimes i will think of idea's when i am away from my computer and then normally i just remember them for later.

I think of an idea first. Next, I work out what I want it to have in it, and what it will look like. After I decide that, I figure out the extender setup and the chassis layout. I build the entire bot in my head, and then with the help of a piece of paper figure out the weight of all the components. That tells me exactly how heavy the chassis can be. So, when I go into game, I know exactly what I'm doing and can build the bot in a timely fashion, unless it's impossible to get the chassis down to the size I need.

Example of this is Nefarious. The chassis needed to be <20 kgs. I got that, but I would need to stack 2 blacks and CB, which i couldn't do at the time.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

Usually my ideas come to me while I am slaving away at work. I work alone 90 percent of the time so I usually think a lot. When I get a decent idea, I scribble it down on a piece of paper and lose it in one of my pockets.

My method is somewhat a combination of the above 2, I usually get an idea while I'm at school.  I first imagine the design itself, then imagine the component setup for the design.  I implement the components and setup into a chassis I see fit, using different parts or setups if necessary, and rebuild the chassis to fit it around the components.
