What is Unichronology?
« on: May 12, 2011, 05:41:21 AM »
First of all, if your using google take a moment to read the small print that says "currently showing results for unicornology" and change the results it looks for to Unichronology, further questions about unicorns will be directed to the My Little Pony mega-thread.

For your second question, yes, Google came up with nothing, there is a reason for this, I'm asking you to use your brains to define a nonexistent word that has Relevance to my world.

*looks at Scourge*

And you be quiet.

EDIT: If your still googling, No, the answer is not the University of Chronology, nor does it have anything to do with the book Arabica

Uni = One, singular, e.g. Uniform.
Chronology = The science of arranging events in their order of occurrence in time, e.g. Chronological Order.

I'm guessing Unichronology is a combination of the two, but I'm not sure how to combine them in a way that would make sense.

So the first thing that pops up is this same thread in another forum with the same exact post by the same person. You linked these people to our pony thread?

Upon this logic, I'll say:

The science of arranging different types of one thing, I.E. colored pencils of the same brand.

Given that google had absolutely nothing on the subject, and given that the internet contains pretty much all of the world's knowledge, I can only deduce that this is a made-up word.

I've heard this word before. Unichronology is believing or following only one timeline. A person who is a Unichronologist is known more usually as a Linearist. The opposite of a Linearist is a Splitist, someone who believes and follows multiple storylines or believes in a series branching into seperate mini-series.

I asked about 10 other forums the same question to see what people would come up with, to ensure it is indeed a vague enough term that there is reason Google cannot find it.

What makes you think it is this?

It's not real word! If it's not on google, it doesn't exist!

Correct you are, he even says that in the first post.  However, this is the way words are created.  A word has to come from somewhere, it doesn't just pop into existance.

Unichronology: The study of experiencing all of time as one moment.
What makes you think it is this?

It makes the most sense to me, Uni, indicating one...Chronology indicating we're talking about time, it's study and it's order.  Plus, i've always been fascinated with the idea that all of time exists 'now', all at once, but we just can't experience it that way.  Not saying I believe that's the way it is, just think it's an interesting concept.

Well, your certainly almost on the nose of what I'm talking about.

And yes I'm attempting to use people's help to invent the definition of a new word, and to especially make certain I don't improperly define it myself (even if its a word of my own creation, its got root words with specific implications).

The way I'm seeing this word, its only plausible at a moment where everything is the same, regardless of where you are, so that the Chronological order of every single object in the world, would be exactly the same in that instance.

I'm seeing if this would add up with what other people come up with when thinking about this word.
