wouldn't it be possible for the one's who now own the rights and such for the game to just pass it on? i mean, giving the right of the game and the source code to people here like Acams  and Serge. they aren't going to do anything with this game, and surely they also don't care about it, so why not pass it on to someone who does care?

Been there, done that. GI won't hand out the code because
 • They apparently still get monies from it
 • It contains proprietary code over which they don't have control (like Havok)

That, and making a good successor would actually require a brand new engine, not the sh**ty one from RA2. Other wise we end up with RA2 and 1/3.

And even if they don't get money still they did get money off of it there for there greedy (insert your own word) who don't want any one else to get cash from it.

Is taking one challenge request. First come first serve. I'm a bit rusty now but I'm going to try and crank something out for this. MW and up no glitches DSL or Stock.

Me neither, but I don't really blame them for not sharing the code. They signed agreements with the people that coded it, and unless those people agree, the code is not being released any time soon.

Right now it's called Potato.

Probably a code name. Just like my homebrewed OS kernel is called Asparagus and my GUI toolkit is called Pumpkin.

Um...concerning this problem over 'community fail', why not expand the areas of focus on this forum? Why not add another game of interest? It would spread out problems such as trolls, as well as giving more areas for dedicated users to post.

I think he means you should be able to import/export RA2 bots into "RA3".

Yes, or else patato arena would be a totally different game. EVERYHTING needs to be portable.

Yeah, that would be cool, completely impossible if you were making a proper up to date game though.

This forum is fine the way it is in my opinion. If it dies, then it dies. We should not "expand our horizons."
Opinion.

Yes indeed it is. I do give reason for my opinion though.

Quote
This is an RA2 forum, and it should remain and RA2 forum. Expanding it to other games will not do RA2 any good, it will just take a back seat to the more popular games.

Faiiling to regard the 2 major mods before DSL and the fact that DSL itself was just a mod compliation and balancing pack for hardcore builders, you are right. we are taking a back seat if we do, but isn't that what DSL is? A mod that took a backseat and grew into the most realistic robot combat simulation ever?

What I mean is that if this forum becomes dedicated to a second game (say Starcraft 2 for instance), I could see RA2 taking a back seat to it, as in more people will join the forums for that and not RA2 (Starcraft 2 is more popular). While you are correct in saying that DSL went from a minor mod, and grew to be even more popular than stock, it is still RA2, just changed slightly.

We should just enjoy these forums while they last, not complain about them like Dexterhunter is. The members of this forum will change over time, they may be more immature and more offtopic.

I agree and disagree. Pointless complaints are pointless, but some of them are actually for the better. (See my rant at the start.)

I agree that some complaints (those that]address specific issues and attempt to fix something wrong) can be valuable. However blanket remarks like, "this community is starting to suck" tend not to do much.

Quote
That really doesn't matter. As long as people still love to play RA2, then this forum will survive in one form or another.
For how long? how long before the next set of PC's makes this game unplayable? how long before the last disc is destroyed? How long before the last torrent is taken down?

I see your point. I for one will try to keep RA2 around forever (utilizing older computers and virtual machines to maintain it as long as possible. Someday this forum will probably day, but I believe that a community (not necessarily gametechmods) will survive for a long time.

Just thought this deserved a reply.
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

Bah, your stupid syntax failure is messing my quotes up dammit!

Anyway, I was assuming we would just be piggybacking other games or be some sort of sell-out.

Truthfully, RA2 will usually be a major part of this forum, all the other mods would just be for attention, as in "HEY PEOPLE WE MAKE MODS FOR GAMES LIKE ROBOT ARENA 2 AND THAT ONE FREEWARE ONE MADE IN 02!!!".

You pretty much stated what I mean on criticism.

RA2 isn't going to die easily if we try.
Put this onto your signature if you were part of this crappy fad in '03.

They apparently still get monies from it

Hell we can all put in and buy the thing, they will probably make more money then what they have in the last year "selling" it.

66% of the RA2 playing members come for DSL anyway....

Agree with Noodle, we need an RA3!

Shall we contact the guys who made it and negotiate an RA3 cos mods and upgrades onto RA2 is one thing, but wiping the RA2 slate and making a 3rd completely from scratch is another, to make the 3rd we'd have to be 100% commited to the project.

Just my say on the matter

Yeah, I know, the thing about licenses for things like the havok engine is a problem though, I think the'd have to remove parts like that from the coding even if they did give us all their code for RA2.
