The Winds of Change Tournament
« on: March 04, 2010, 06:48:54 PM »

OK So this is an idea for a tournament.

We all know how in real life, roboteers have times to change there robots a little bit before a fight, well this tourney will let you do that! Before every round, you will restart the building process with your originally sent bot, or re-optimize the bot that you sent the round before.

Rules:
1. All bots will be DSL HW
2. Realistic Rule applies, and it will be very strict. This includes super stacked weapons (For example, HNM 3.2 would be disallowed because of the weapons stacked so tightly. This will be at my discretion).
3. No BFE (This includes chassis lowering), AAM, ZeroG, secret hax armor, or anything else outside of the bot lab besides skinning
4. No cheatbot2, cheat, or AI parts
5. No Trovaner Chassis Glitch, and No using skirt hinges as armor
6. At time of entry, all bots will have a weight minimum of 675 kgs and a weight limit of 700 kgs.
7. Within one week of when I say to send, every builder in that round will send me a new bot, which can weigh up to 800 kgs. If no bot is entered, the builder will use the original. I will not accept bots early, or late.
8. Uses of extra weight: Optimize Wedges, Add/Change Weapons, Add External Armor, or Change Wheels. You are not allowed to use the extra weight for: Adding Motors, or Adding Chassis Armor. You are not allowed to change the Control Board, Change motors (not including Metal Hinge and Skirt Hinges), or Remove Titanium Half-Sheets attached to Baseplate. You are allowed to move the control board and batteries within the chassis.
9. AFTER CHANGES, THE BOT TYPE MUST STAY THE SAME
10. If any bot is not sent by the end of the week, or the builder has not sent a legal bot by the end of the week, the builder will use the original sent bot.
11. You can also choose to use the same bot as a past round, just say so. Although saying in a PM would be better so the opponent doesn't know what you're entering
12. I will film with CAMstudio, and I can provide AIing sklz, but I would prefer that you AI yourself.
13. The arena will be the BBEANS Tournament Arena V2, hazards on.
14. NO AI WHINING
15. The original bot sent to me must be mobile
16. For simplicity, multibots are not allowed
17. Any entering user must be an active member who has stayed active during their time here. I don't want anyone joining and just leaving.
18. In the case of a havok, the match will be restarted once, and the second will be a forfeit of that match. You get one free restart per match. Each havok forfeit of a match will be counted as 1 loss. If you get two losses, you lose the battle. I will film all three fights anyways.
19. Each fight is a battle of a best of 3 matches. 1 vs. 1

This tournament is designed to have the builder gain a competitive edge on your opponent, while he can also do the same onto you, just like in a real tournament.

There will also be a losers bracket.

I am looking for this to be a proof of concept type tournament, so to make it simple, I'm planning for this to be only 8 Bots.

I will be entering as well.

Tell me what you think and I will add what I need if I need to when I need to if needed.

you should need to change the wheels, as long as they are reveltivaly the same size, I see builders change wheels last minute all the time, even Biohazard had a wheel change in series one of BB to make him smaller

I agree with only allowing the addition of things.. I guess wheels are ok though

keeps it more realistic, doing things like

Frenzy adding the bar on the front to avoid a flipper,
Killerhurtz I believe added rubber to the front against surgeon general
Razer adding the hook to counteract the interchangeable tornado
Hazard adding side skirts and shortening the weapon for weight

Here's your official tourney logo!

This is a good thing to try with 8 bots first.  I've thought of this concept, but the problem is that it requires audience participation.  The bigger the tournament is the slower it moves and the more likely people will lose interest over time.  8 bots should be perfect.

"When the winds of change blow hard enough, the most trivial of things can be turned into deadly projectiles"

Whoa, that sounded badass... though "projectiles" isn't the most suited word :P

When the winds of change blow hard enough, parts go flying and robots are dying?

Could make a good motto...

Interesting idea, Somebody.
I will try to build something for this if it goes ahead.

This is a good idea, but I could build a 200KG chassis and just bolt on whatever I wanted to it as long as the internals are the same and the weapon is still the same type? That sounds like a bit too much freedom. You might want to put a lower limit on the 750kg weight limit.
Avoid the beam and you won't get hit!

Yknow what S_M just said gave me an idea (combined with what C33 said)
He could just send a 200kg bot and bolt on a crapload of other stuff. The minimum weight is 650 kgs, with the maximum weight as 700 kgs, at sending. Then other things are obviously put on.
