Slug It Out - Discussion
« on: July 01, 2011, 03:50:24 PM »
Please read the following rules carefully.

1.Building Restrictions:
1(i)DSL v2.1 MW
1(ii)Realism Rule is in effect
1(iii)BFE, AAM, or ANY outside game modifications are not allowed
1(iv)All ingame glitches allowed (apart from Narmour, castar armour) as long as the bot still abides by (ii)
1(v)No cheatbot parts, no custom parts
1(vi)No mulitbots

2.Tournament Structure:
2(i)Double Emination
(i.a)Exception to this rules is the first round. The first bot to be eliminated is out of the tournament. See figure 1 (black denotes the bot that is eliminated first.)
2(ii)Most matches have three bots
(ii.a)Exception to this rule is the Loser bracket final - two bots participate
2(iii)Matches are set at two minutes
2(iv)Matches held in a modified (such that starting points are thrids away from each other and new skin) ring arena by Serge
2(v)Matches are done anhiliator style - when one bot is defeated, the two remaining bots will fight. This means each match is made of two bouts.
(v.a)Exception is the loser bracket final - best of three match
2(vi)Initially, bots are placed in brackets randomly
2(vii)For how the loser bracket is done, please refer to figure 1
2(viii)For the finals, the loser bracket winner must win two matches (instead of one)
2(ix)One havok restart per bout

3.Special Rules:
3(i)After each bout in a match, components which get knocked off will be removed
(i.a)The components are reset after the match is over
3(ii)When the chassis health in a bout drops below 50% health, the armour will be reduced to half strength (if apllicable) or closest armour to half strength
3(iii)When the chassis health is in flashing red, armour will be reduced to plastic 1mm.

4.Due to chassis health and component health being an elevated factor, there are some more building restrictions:
4(i)Chassis base plate cannot be more than 16 square units in area
4(ii)Chassis height cannot be more than a Large Puma CO2 tank stood on it's end (ie the tank must not be able to be place on its end in the chassis)
4(iii)Only ONE component of hitpoints over 8000 can be used on any one bot.

Please post your reactions, and any ammendments to the rules I should make (particularly rules 3 and 4).
Will hope for max 18 entrants, but will place random byes instead if need be.

What if the bot uses Plastic 1 mm as its original armor?

And how will you know which components came off who?

...I think I can understand how the brackets work. It sounds pretty interesting, I might give this a bash. =)

QFT

But, wait, can't a puma tank fit in any chassis height size, but it just stick out of the top quite a bit?

I don't know. The nozzle bit might do, but I think that's the limit if you can't see the nozzle out of the top.

Sounds too complicated to keep track of TBH

And you cannot have more than 16 entrants until you become Major League

First point - i may make a new armour whereby it is exactly half/ much weaker
Second point - I will scrutinise the match videos closely. If it is a lot of razor spam, i will just have to make the components i remove as much the same as possible as in the video.

But, wait, can't a puma tank fit in any chassis height size, but it just stick out of the top quite a bit?
If that is the case, then the height cannot be greater such that any part of the large puma tank emerges from the chassis.

Sorry to hear that, although i thought this was simpler than DoD.
I Pm'ed Joe, he gave me permission.

After re-reading and looking at the brackets, doesn't look too complex actually, it's just a usual bracket just with melee matches?

Click's Ironbot tourney should have similar rules for component removal.  I believe he has a trick to keeping track of the components via a txt file or something that will save you a ton of time. If you get a minute, send him a message and some cash to bribe him.  He could probably be swayed to share his tricks.

I think it will save you a ton of time and frustration.

If I had thought about it,  this is how I would've done Survival of the Fittest, because ultimately I wanted it to be like one long continuous match instead of restarting everybody fresh when a new bot came it.  But, I'll be honest, I would've gotten annoyed with it pretty quick.

Great idea and cool workaround.
Survival of the Fittest Is Finished!  Congratulations 090901

I just want to clarify this so tons of people dont pm me with requests..

Dragonfire isn't bound by the entrant limit rules due to running the Challenge Board.

... So this is Annihilator plus Ironbot plus first round eliminations plus part restrictions? Kewl.

Also you should ban popups, they won't fit the spirit of this

Is it possible to flip robots OOTA in that arena, or are there invisible walls?

It's very oota-ble. I've used the same arena in two tourneys.
Better than GK since 2009.
I think SM is a pretty cool guy, eh builds unicycle-bots and doesn't afraid of anything
