Robot Wars 2005 - Signups
« on: June 19, 2013, 08:19:57 AM »

Worst name I know. But who cares? It's ROBOT WARS! ROBOT WARS FINISHED IN 2004! THIS IS LIKE THE YEAR AFTER!

Essentially this is just a small tournament to see what you lot can do. I want you to make an IRL sequel to a Robot Wars robot, that must have a very similar design, but could be improved in some way. For example, you could make Diotoir with a more powerful flipper, or even something like an effective Fat Boy Tin. The choices are yours. However. There are more catches.

The tournament itself is only half the battle.

Essentially, when the splashes are created, I will require EVERY competitor to rate each other competitor's IRL-ness, honestly, on a scale of -2 (borderline not-irl) to 2 (Very IRL) via PM to me within 2 days of splashes being released (the videos will then commence).
This vote will also be opened up to anybody not competing in the tournament - again to be closed before videos release.
Voting will therefore happen in private and score additions/subtractions announced after the tournament has run.
Your placing in the tournament will also get you points, so on top of the potential -2 to 2 you score in the vote,
1st place = 5
2nd place = 4
3rd/4th = 2
5th-12th = 0
Therefore, as you can see, winning the battles doesn't necessarily correlate to a tournament win. Good luck ;)

But for now, some:
RULES
1) IRL DSL 2.1 MW.
2) 1 entry per person, with 12 slots available. Ty4er as RIP3 winner gets a guaranteed spot should he want it. Signups will be open for 24 hours to allow all a fair chance to enter, then the spots will be randomly given (via the randomizer) to submitted robots. If these robots are then not legal, the spot will be re-rolled.
3) The arena will be Wham's NEW RW ARENA.
4) I have the right to FULLY REJECT your bot if it does not meet standards. Yes, this is even before the IRL Vote.
5) No glitches, Narmour, DSA, etc. BFE may be allowed in some circumstances, eg bot height.
6) Only IRL Bot types - no face spinners or popups.. you know the drill.
7) No multibots. Sorry. There will be 2x4-way rumbles preventing multibots. But perhaps if I run another, you can get your Gemini 2's in ;)
8) 1 Judge Burst MAXIMUM.
9) Havok's will be judged on severity. If they affect the outcome, they get 1 restart. Any more and it's eliminated.
10) No loser's bracket. Just letting you know. Single elimination.
11) Battles will be 2 minutes long.
12) I can/will AI but please try to yourself
13) No updates. Your submission is final, due to limited spots.
14) The winner gets a free ticket into my next tournament, which will be a sequel to this if I find it successful.
15) DO NOT SEND ENTRIES BEFORE SIGNUPS OPEN or I will disqualify you. No excuses.
16) Anybody successful in entering must also compete in the IRL Vote which will have a 2-day deadline after splashes are released. If you miss the deadline, you will be disqualified from any points scored (and even if someone scores negative points, you will come below them), however will still 'compete' in the videos.
17) Reskinned components will be accepted as long as they are made as their own component (eg do not overwrite DSL's default skins for the component). I will check for any sneaky stat changes.

JUDGING
I will judge the tournament, along with possibly Mazakari and/or Sonny_Resetti, depending on if they get their entries into the tournament.
Voting will be based on the RW System

Looks pretty good so far, but I'd personally have it HW rather than MW. More possibilities for interesting designs, and more in line with RW's real weight limits, too.

Robot Wars rebuilds?

Absolutely definitely yes entering this.

What will be the rules on cheatbot components other than the Judge Burst? Some people may want to use extras from the likes of Dominator 2, Behemoth, Pussycat, etc in order to the feel of their robot?

I find with MW you're less inclined to go over-the-top with stupid amounts of armour and extra weaponry. I think it'll make the results better. But yeah I'll go over the rules later when I have a bit more time.

As for cheatbot2 components, I have no idea what is well balanced. Is the list of cheatbot2 components allowed in Battlebots pretty balanced?

I believe that the list of extras in Battlebots would serve no problems at all, as they're mostly only decoration. Could limit them further to just the RW robots (eg, no Hworf or Complete
Control extras, etc).

I see what you mean, but I find it limits it too much due to weight. And even still, there aren't enough IRL HW Tournaments these days (Apart from Battlebots), so I think it'll be a good idea.

Totally entering this. It'll probably be my last tourney, but I'm still totally entering this.

Or lose a wheel.
Aye, there's that to watch out for too. At least it didn't get completely smashed like Broadsword though, look on the bright side, but some wheelguards might definitely be a good idea.   ;P

Finally! I have an excuse to make Malc 2.5!

This alone is a good enough reason for this to happen.

I still need to decide if it's worth the effort of making a horrible pun like 'Steg-O-4-Us'....

I'll probably make a wheelguarded, faster spinning Hypno Disc. If not, I'll go tackle another spinner, most likely either Supernova or Typhoon.

This gets my vote.  I assume that the bot has to be significantly different, and not just a replica of a Series 6 or 7 bot?

It could be a replica but that would be very boring. I'm not outlawing it but replica's are not the point of the tournament.

To be honest you could just take a replica and change it a bit, youknow? Make it a little more 'up-to-date' in your own opinion.

I'm hoping that the emphasis on improving existing robots will encourage my vision of what IRL should be.
