Robo Zone rules and registration.
« on: March 29, 2009, 03:20:34 PM »
Robo Zone...

basic Rules:

-all robots must be Stock (no cheat parts, hidden AI parts are allowed).
-all robots must be lightweight. (you can use 2 bots (cluster bots) that add up to a weight of 249 or less).
-NO outside editing or cheating of any kind, just build your robot in the robot lab.
-your robot must show controlled movement, that means be able to drive forward and backwards and turn left and right in a controlled manner.
-there is no realistic rule, stacking is allowed.
-you can only enter one robot (unless its a cluster bot of course, then you need both).

-------------------------------
scoring system:
your robots will have the chance to pick up an amount of points equal to the number of entries minus 1, per challenge. (10 entries = max 9 points)

2 on 1 scoring:
1.the robot to beat the 2 house bots the fastest will score the most amount of points.
2.if time runs out in the match the robot with the highest amount of points will get more points then anyone else who has this occur and robots who get beat by the house bots.
3.the robot to get beat by the house robots in the fastest time will score 0 points.

Beat the Box scoring:
1.the robot to beat the box in the fastest time will score the most points.
2.the robots who fail to beat the box will be given points based on their score.

Tilt scoring:
1.the robot who beats the house bot in the fastest time will score the most points.
2.if you both go off the same time its still counted as a lose even if it says the house bot was eliminated first, you must be on the platform when the house bot has completely left the platform for it to be counted as a win.
3.the robot to get beaten in the fastest time will score no points.
4.cluster bots count as 1 robot in this challenge and when one bot is knocked off the tabletop and one stays on it still counts as a lose.

Survival Scoring:
1.The robot who can beat the house bot in the fastest time will get the most points.
2.the robot who gets beaten by the house bot in the fastest time will score no points.
3.all other robots will be given points based on the time they lasted.

same time?:

if your robot gets the same time as someone elses you will both get the same amount of points and the next place receives the same amount of points as they would if there wasn't a draw, for example in a 5 bot tournament it would look like this:

1st - 4 points
2nd - 3 points
2nd - 3 points
4th - 1 point
5th - 0 points

--------------------------------
so who are these house bots you have been hearing about? let me introduce team Robo Zone!

Tick:
info: A powerful BW HS capable of knocking out your robot if it gets a good chance.
Challenge: 2 on 1.

Tock:
info: A BW with plenty of weapons and a wedge, although not as strong as Tick it could cause more problems for your bot.
Challenge: 2 on 1.

Box:
info: defense all over this robot means it will take more then one hit to KO this robot.
Challenge: Beat the box.

Dozer:
info: a strong rammer with good protection and decent wedges... it will be very tough to beat.
Challenge: Tilt.

Torture Chamber:
info: made to inflict pain on your robot and beat it as fast as possible.. weight = 799.9, that's a huge advantage!
Challenge: Survival.

------------------------------------
Registration:

registration for your entry is now open, please send your robot to me by PM or email it to me at: ianjh_(yoda)07@hotmail.com  (remove the brackets and yoda).

you have until the 6th of april to register a robot. i plan on having around 10 robots in the tournament to start.

If your robot is a hammer/popup or any other type of robot that uses smart zones you must attach the smart zone yourself! and you may AI your own robot if you know how cause my ai skills aren't as great as others.

i would prefer you ai your own robot.

---Registration closes in a few hours----

Registered robots:
1.Glenku- antichrist v.1
2.Ianh05- Razor wind
3.Jack Daniels - Jackpot Deux
4.Somebody - Robotogeddon
5.PhiletBabe - Solar07
6.Scrap Daddy - UndeaD
7.Man Manu - Sadie's closet
8.Venko - Anti-pacman
9.
10.

I will upload vids on Youtube due to the file size of the rounds (don't want to take up too much webspace). you can close the other topic about this tournament.

this tournament shouldn't take as long as the tag team tourney to finish, i think it will be speedy.

nice idea but end date as 6 april looks very short.

With coming soon vacation, i should not enter but if the end date is end of april.

with so many contests that never ends, can you give us your scheduled task :
date of closed entry : 6 april
date of start of first match : ?
date of end : ?

Agreed!

I WILL ENTER! My bot is almost ready, i must do only some final tests, paint it and AI it...
Do you at least know how and where to put the AI bindinsg after players send them to you?...
Extending the submition period will help you to get more entrants. Keep this in mind...
Good luck man. Peace out...

yeah i know, i just need to copy the AI code you send me into bindings.

if i remember correctly most my tournaments had registration open for only a week or 2, maybe even less. i just thought a week would be long enough to get another 8 lws in.

philetbabe:
date of closed entry : 6 april
date of start of first match : when i have all the bots ai'd and robot splash pics done.
date of end : i believe i can complete the tournament pretty speedily.

with every tournament i hold i learn something along the way, and i have a couple of good time saving ideas that i didn't have before.

i might even post my tournament hosting tips for newbie tourney hosts and possibly have it as a sticky..

pity i haven't heard from mad, i had a good idea for what could be used as the prize for the winner. i guess bragging rights will have to do for this :P

You guys are...... errr... not very realistic.

Ian, what was it I missed? If it's the arena idea, then that will take some work. This is special design; a different kind of arena. Just talked with Trov yesterday, and Sage will help (thankfully) and Spyguy will pitch in, I'm sure. It'll get done.
Also:
-Still finishing GUMBA.
-Working on 'Evade' code
-had just finished up BOTM(secret though)
-Oh yea, real work...

Input is appreciated. :)
-Arrogance is a quantity devoid of quality...
-As a client once told me "This is my story, and it's sticking to me!"
-Relationships these days are like the 'Arrival' section of the airport: a lot of baggage is being revealed in one place, and not a lot of it is being correlated to its real owners...

no worries if you can't get it done by the time the tourney is over mad. we have 2 options.. 1 is to give the prize to the winner when the arena is made or save the prize for the next tourney (i have been thinking about making this a regular tournament).

one of the new time saver ideas i had for this tourney is to do with the splashes, see i use to make one splash for each robot well this time I'm going to have a template where i can just copy the robot pic onto then put in the info for each bot (working on the splash template as i speak).

the arena should maybe be called "Robo Zone Arena"?

Yes it's a good idea, and yes i'm going to enter. I have several ideas.

update.. still 7 spots open, about 5 more people are working on entries.

there is a number of strategies for this tournament, you could build a bot that will excel in one challenge and hope for the best in other challenges or a bot who will go well in all challenges but has less chance of winning one.
