RA2 Team Championships
« on: August 01, 2010, 02:59:22 PM »

I have been thinking about starting my own tourney for a little while, so I think that its about time I posted my ideas here

Basic Idea:
Users work in 4 teams of about 5 or 6 to compete in a tournament.
Each user makes one bot.
There are different matches for the teams to try & earn points.
The team with the most points at the end of each heat wins, & moves into the final.
Team leaders PM me which of their team's bots will be in which matches (Obviously the LW will have to be in the LW faceoff)

Rules:
1. DSL Heavyweights (+ One DSL Lightweight)
2. Enforced realistic rules apply, only bot types seen IRL are allowed (no popups, jugglers, flail shell spinner ect.), this does not stop you from making a tiny chasis with a few ants & a control board in & everything else externally mounted however.
3. No cheatbot2 or custom components.
4. Crawlers NOT allowed
5. Multibots NOT allowed
6. Please AI your own bots or get someone else in your team to AI. If not, I can AI but all I will guarantee is that your bot moves towards the other team & uses its weapons.
7. Usual havok rules apply, one havok - restart, another havok - forfiet.
8. All building must be done in the bot lab. No BFE or AAM or anything like that.
9. All matches will last for one minute.
10. Not best out of 3 matches ect. 5 matches in each heat, one of each, no second chances!
11. One upgrade ONLY
12. SNS Specific Rules :

Different Types Of Matches & Their Arenas:
Tabletop - Static Flextop (Hazards OFF)
King Of The Hill - Lumazone (Hazards ON)
Tag Team - Epic Showdown (Hazards ON)
Destruction - Small Arena (Hazards OFF)
Lightweight Faceoff - LuTze's Ra2TT (Hazards ON)

Bots required to be made (Each team must have one of each of these bots):
HW Flipper
HW Hammer/Axe
HW Spinner (this doen't include SNS)
HW Rammer/Poker ect.
LW
One HW of your teams choice as long as it stays in the rules

Please do not spend hours skining your bots as I will re-paint them anyway so that it is obvious which team it is in!

Brackets:

If your team wins your heat, you progress to the final.
If your team loses your heat, you progress to the 3rd place play off.

Team leaders are basically so that I don't have to PM every entrant to inform them of something & so that there is no confusion when they PM me which bots in which matches. They may want to guide their team also.
I will pick an appropriate team leader from each team. I will not make anybody a team leader without their consent beforehand.

I will randomize the entrants into teams and then randomly pick who has to build what bot. This will hopefully speedup the sign-ups stage!

Awards:
Everybody will get this to display in their sig:

I have also made some component prizes for the winning team, check pages 4 & 5 of this thread.

This requires atleast 16 entrants for it to take place.
If it goes ahead, I could put this in signups October at the earliest.
Please don't make any bots at this stage!

Preview:

FOR ALL THE FORUM STOCK LOVERS:
IF THERE IS A 'RACTC2"' (WHICH I HOPE THERE IS) I WILL DEFINETLY BE CONSIDERING MAKING IT STOCK!

I did consider making this stock, but I want there to be a wide variety of bots.
Also, since I am banning popups, each team would consist of two widely unrealistic HW horizontal spinners, & one widely unrealistic LW spinner.

Anyway, I've added two more options to the poll

Yes,but then the bots wouldn't be very good.

Another reason that it is DSL is because of personal tastes & the fact that I am not a fantastic builder in stock.
If it is stock or DSL will now widely depend on the results of the poll, if to many vote for the last option, then it may be changed to stock.

PLEASE DON'T VOTE FOR THAT BECAUSE OF WHAT I JUST SAID IF YOU WOULD ENTER IT IF IT WERE DSL

besides that fact I still think you're the old Vertigo in disguise, I guess this could work. We just need more stock tournies IMO

I'm not Sparkey
Think about it, what would be the point creating a new user account with practically the same name?

IRL Rule needs a little work. There are Flamethrowers and SnS in real life. I would enter if SnS were allowed. I would be the extra spot
I built that big robot on that TV show that time

Flamethrower's do exist IRL but aren't allowed in robotic combat, thus they are banned in my tourney.
I have never seen a SnS IRL but if they do exist then I will change the rules so that they are allowed

Some of you have voted for 'No, because I don't agree with some of the rules'
Could you please specify what your issues are, & if appropriate,I could change the rules like I will do for somebody

Flamethrowers are banned at some events because of safety issues such as insurance, plywood floor, venue not being flameproof. There are quite a few bots that run flamethrowers. (Alcoholic Stepfather, Texas Heat, and the Red Barron have all run flamethrowers.) See section 13.2.1 http://www.botleague.net/doc/RFLTechRegs-2010-final.pdf

Might have a go at this if it somehow becomes stock! Might try it even if it's DSL, though.

There are tons of SnSes IRL. You just need some restrictions regarding weapon weight and robot size.
Clash Cubes 1 - Grey Matter (Runner-Up)
King of Karnage - Sideshow Freak (Runner-Up, Best Engineered)
Rust In Pieces - Paper Cut 3 (Grand Champion, Most Dangerous Bot)
Wheely Tag Tournament - Ion Thruster (Grand Champion, along with Ounces' DiSemboweLment)
UK vs USA - Dark Striker (Grand Champion)
Rust In Pieces 2 - Claymore (Runner-Up, Favourite Bot)
BBEANS 6 - Infection 4 (Runner-Up)
RA2 Team Championships - Serious Business, Skeksis (Runner-Up, along with Scrappy, S_M, and Badnik)
RA2 Team Championships 2 - The Other Stig (Runner-Up, along with Scrappy, S_M, Badnik, 090901, and R1885)
Replica Wars 3 - Abaddon (Runner-Up, Luckiest Bot)
BroBots - wheebot & yaybot (Runner-Up)
Robo Zone 2 - Dipper (4th place, Survival Champion, & Best Axle Bot)
ARBBC - The Covenant (3rd place, BW Rumble Winner, Most Feared BW)

OK then, flamethrowers are allowed
Even though I am a roboteer myself, I have never really been involved with american robotics, as flamethrowers have always been banned in the UK, I presumed they were in the US aswell (although HW spinners are currently banned at all events in the UK but they have always been accepted in the US)

just on a quick flick through

I would enter but...

Please do not spend hours skining your bots as I will re-paint them anyway so that it is obvious which team it is in!

:P

hmm 5 or 6 per team... damn, we need another aussie to make a team with Doom, H@z and Ian...

The idea was that I would paint all the bots in Team 1 red, all the bots in team 2 blue ect. so that it is obvious which team they are in.

hmm 5 or 6 per team... damn, we need another aussie to make a team with Doom, H@z and Ian...

I was thinking of randomizing the entriesinto teams anyways to make it fair but agian this is a rule that I'm willing to change

first one was a joke... D: I like skinning

second one is your call but it is a turn off for me with random teams... part of the fun is working along with others.

My problem with that is that (please note that I am not talking about anyone in particular here) there are some members of this forum that may want to enter but people may not want them to be on their team.

I'll add it to the poll

first one was a joke...
