GTM Olympics Discussion
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:30:35 PM »
Ok, I was watching the Olympics beginning thing lately, and I got an idea. I know Sage/Zog had some ideas for a “world tourney” thing a while back but it never took off. So I thought to take that a tiny bit further and make a full-fledged “RA2 Olympics” (or a DSLympics :P).

The Rules are pretty much like this:
-It will be arranged so every country gets either one representative or every country gets two. Before the tourney, each country decides who will represent them in the championship by a mini-tourney or a vote- it will be up to each country to decide how they choose. The winners will represent their respective nations in the tourney itself.
-Each competitor sends in one bot of the weight-class that will be specified (IE, DSL MW or something). The tourney will compose of several events, like KOTH, Death match, etc., and the bots will compete in each one.
-The winners of each event will get a prize. Also, all the KOs/WBP/TKOs have respective point values (IE a KO has 3 pts, a WBP has 1). All the country’s rankings will be added up for another prize for the overall winner.

I'm doing NW3 at the moment, however I might do this in the future. It would be a pretty big event, and it's possible that multiple people would have to host it.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

I dunno yet.

I was thinking- it might be a better idea for each country to send in 3 bots (3 competitors), like one for each event. Not sure...

Well, since it's pretty much the world tournament idea with a better name and better planning, i'm all for it.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

Nah Stag, we've already had one international replica tourney.

Reier, would the countries have different reprasentatives for the different events?

That's what I'm trying to decide.
Say there are 3 events: KOTH, Deathmatch, and Tabletop. The US would send 1 competitor for each event, IE Urjak for KOTH, Sage for Deathmatch, and MikeNCR for TT. Someone like Germany would send Thyrus (I think he's the only german) to compete in only one event, like TT. However the total points system will have to be revised if we do it that way, but I think this way might be better than what I wrote on the front page.

GK:
Correct. You will have to be from your real life country, however I don't know how to keep people from lying.
