Just a clarification, in Season 2, does the robot you enter have to be an upgraded version of your first robot, or can it be something new entirely?

The first robot has to be an edited version.
Once you enter it, it stays around until the end.



On a side note, I don't think I clarified that people who didn't enter season 1 can still enter season 2.  So you don't necessarily have to enter a second robot either.

How much leniency is there going be for upgrades? Is that something you're going to police as season 2 comes round?

As long as the original shape or concept of the robot stays the same, it should be fine.
I'd allow S2 Lockjaw to go to season 3 Lockjaw because it keeps the shape and paint scheme despite changing weapon styles, but I wouldn't allow S1 Chomp to go to S2 Chomp because it shares literally nothing with the original.

What I'm basically looking for is some sort of key trait that is shared from one form to the next.
Or you could just pull a Nightmare and just make small adjustments like adding srimechs.
