UberPyro's Stock Showcase
« on: January 11, 2017, 06:00:01 PM »
I hate stock.
But it's where we all started. And I built a robot for Stilt Stumble.
I wasn't originally going to showcase it, but since I spent way too much time on it, I might as well show it.

Toothpick Fortress. Armor is BFE'd to have infinite health. 391.7kg, Middleweight (I know its under). Chassis is skintight (edit: almost skintight. Tiny bit of wiggle for the cb stack).

Things got a little crazy with the eFFe in the botlab

If I were to rebuild, I would use anchors rather than snappers. 32 kg for 2 snappers is a little much on a MW. Also stronger drive.

140cms and irons would've been an improvement. It's still better than my entry.

So I made a robot for Enigma's tournament. Welcome to stock in 2017.

Name: Snap in the Box (which is ironic considering that there is no "box" with a u-shaped trov chassis)
795.8 kg, DSA
Virtually indestructible CF popup.

This has:
a wirethin chassis
an indestructible extenderwork wedge
4 HP Z-tek (2 are stacked perfectly inside of each other by CF)
indestructible sawblades for protection (I chose sawblades since they weigh 1 more kg than a disk of the same diameter and do a wee bit of damage)
4 DDTs, 2 carry 4 razors, 2 carry 5 razors; all razors are attached directly to DDT since I don't need extenderwork with the opponent sitting litterally on the DDT (also component hermaphroditism allows for multiple components to be attached to the same point, even if something else is already attached there. Which is a whole 'nother level of broken.)
2 snapper wedges with 120 cm extenders
3 supervolts
Indestructible extenders which protect the edge of the wire thin chassis (did I mention indestructible?)
A whole lot of awesome

Here's what it looks like in garage:

Looks pretty clean, huh? I found out the sawblades and extender wedge are all there, just invisible. So it's like its protected by a force field. And has a magical floating wedge.

But I'm a terrible stock builder so I'm sure I made some mistakes. Any suggestions?

I'd prefer if the snappers were turned around so the wedges are slightly wider (also 140cm square extenders only weigh 5 kg).

I'm not quite sure if this is the type of tournament to have safeguards for any type of matchup. Fast and wide spinners might just beat you through WBP flicking at the extender armor. Maybe razor armor instead or do they not deal damage that way?

Thanks so much for the responses!

Pwnator, wider wedges would be better. Initially I was afraid an HS would be able to strike the extenders with the wedge and that's why I have them on the inside of the indestructible extenderwork. But now that I think about it, maybe this tends to not be an issue. In which case I would turn the snappers around in a rebuild.

Also I did not know that 140 cm wedges were 5 kg, that is definitely good information I would make the chassis longer in a rebuild to get them to fit.

And alas, I tested in battle and it seems that the saws don't do damage. So I should replace them with disks and also replace the spike strips. Oh well RA2, you're a quirky game.

Yeah... It looks dope, don't get me wrong, but I'm afraid the cheesy invulnerable popup is going to bring a lot of hate.

Although yes, enigma has rules that allow this, and if it loses a wheel, it's pretty much a sitting duck.

Also it looks... very weird... outside of the lab. Maybe Enigma should allow components stuck to the baseplate to show, so it'll look better.

Also, I have a feeling the wedge may be bad.

Hey Naryar, thanks for the consideration. Enigma literally said that someone was going to make a CF popup on the signups page though, so I decided to do it myself, and honestly I think it's what people are expecting from this tournament. In practice the wedge isn't bad (and I don't know if the fact that I'm driving my robot against AI'd robots is a big factor in this) but I seem to be able to get under many of the starecore v3 robots. And the notchy extenders aren't a problem at all, opponents slide right up.

If there's a way to make baseplate components show, then doing that would definitely be an improvement.

debugwindow
show(botID usually 0 in practice arena and bot lab, compID, 0 for hide, 1 for show)

Or just mod all components to be alwaysvisible ;)

Alright, it's that time again when the official tournament rolls around and I realize everything I built in the past 12 months has been trash.

Now that signups are officially closed, here's my stock entry. It's a poker. I generally don't like building in stock because I know everything that can possibly be competitively viable has already been made and I refuse to closely mirror an existing robot.

So have a poker. The Bop Monster. DSA. 246.3 kg.

TBM front.png

TBM comp.png

Even if it's not the most viable thing in the world, making this robot was a lot of fun. Because I got to lay out a bunch of weapons like this:

exploded view.png

And then garage-and-back and be like "...what is this thing I created"

TBM weapon.png

So yeah... what you're looking at is basically 6 iron spikes and a razor tip inside of each other. I started out by axle loading the piston shaft, effe'd the first black extender on, and then proceeded to effe on more extenders and add spikes. There are two separate branches of extenders, since the first extender had two attachment points that I could use. And yes, that iron spike stack through the redbird was quite lucky. (edit: i'm dumb i should have just removed the motors..)

So there are a lot of concerns with the robot. It's narrow and could get knocked to the side by HSes, and some of those 9HSes look pretty mean (and made me realize that my robot didn't have relatively so many weapons). If my robot can get a direct hit though, it can score a KO pretty quickly. I have no protection from any of the hammer bots so I'll probably lose to all of them, but I hope having the weapon low down helps with hitting popups. Really I don't know what to expect, so I'm excited to see what happens!

Edit: and I should also mention that it's probably possible for me to have shrunk the chassis a tiny bit more or something to make weight for the 7th iron spike rather than the razor spike which might not do much.

You're probably the luckiest stock builder right now since you're able to axle load a piston without teleporting it to another dimension. Sweet build overall.

Ahahaha that's because standard techniques don't work. You need to get crafty: put an HP z-tek on the piston end, a 140 cm square extender using the end side attachment point, then a t connector and two sledgehammers. Spinning that around creates enough force to make the piston shaft come out of its socket, along with the usual clicking between overview/components/wiring screens.

54-Footed Beaver

Why 54 feet? Because its a 54 Bear Claw HS.

I wanted to do something with the RO7 break in effect, so I made this. Its HP Z-teks are way overloaded so its only redeeming factor is being able to outweapon everything. But it sounds scary and that's what counts.

with weapons that heavy does it spin fast enough to not have the hpz knocked off immediately?

rotating the drive motors 90 degs will help with maneuverability.

The hpz don't get knocked off but the tribars do.

Rotate drive motors how? I could use extenders to make them wider I suppose.

if you look at the drive motors head on this is what the hpz mesh looks like. red is hpz and black circle is the shiny.

the one on the left is what yours looks like. there's a point on the motor where it extends below the wheel very slightly and can mess up drive performance. the right one usually works better

Ah I see what you're saying. I think I realized that they would be better sideways but not until after I had snapper loaded them on. I didn't have a sense of direction from the snapper loading, and then I was too lazy to redo it. I'm very lazy.
