TiLT's Stock Showcase
« on: August 18, 2009, 03:36:23 PM »
Hey there =)

Been a lurker for a while. Maybe a month? Well, whatever. Found the place looking for an upgrade to the game, and it gave me a link to InfiniteInertia's Re-Stocked thing. The bots in it were so great I knew I wouldn't be happy until I beat them. And now I finally did :D

I had a little experience in Photoshop from an art class I took, but I still have no idea how some people on here make such amazing splashes o.0

This bot beats most MWs in the Re-Stocked pack, excluding Devil cause of his single wedge. Tornado also gyro-dances making it hard to get a solid hit on him. Can also beat some HWs. The wedges one Steel Venom beat Little Metal Friend and Coal Miner and a few others. It has good wedges.

Anyways, hope you like it. I'm gonna try to be more open to criticism than some of the other new guys I have seen on here. So, criticize away!

No...If anything needs more power to get that heavily weaponed DDT to move.. Try and remove some razors for the needed weight on batteries, its your call though I find 4 fine, 5 alittle excessive; so at 8 its probably very slow at releasing

Durnit! Even newbies make better popups than me! *commits suicide*

Nice bot, the chassis could be smaller and shorter, with the gained weight you could add another black in there. It really needs atleast 2, because burst motors EAT battery power.

Are you from Minnesota? Cause Steel Venom (the rollercoaster) is at Valleyfair, which is in Minnesota.

As for Steel Venom (the bot), I think it's good as is. Personally, 8 razors on a DDT really isn't too heavy. The DDT still packs quite a punch, even with 1 black. Also, having that much empty space might be beneficial. For one, the bigger the chassis the more health it has. And two, since it's a very heavy chassis for a MW, the wedge will be better. Same idea as ballasts. I fear if you make the chassis smaller the wedge might become worse.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

Have you unlocked the AI parts yet because, if you use blue snapper's (for the wedge) you can even the weight at the front of your bot.

Haha! So that was you! I didn't recognize your name at first.

He sent me an e-mail asking me where he could download re-stocked. I don't know why or how he knew I had it, but I gave it to him anyways. You good with that inf? I didn't think you would care.

Woah, got a lot of comments. Didn't expect that...

Anyways, Sage, I saw your post that basically said something to the degree of "Can I be a BETA tester???  PLEASEE??" (I'll find it later).

I thought you would be a good person to ask, and you had your email in your profile. Guess I was right.

As for your other question, Sage, asking if I was from Minnesota. No, I'm not. However, I did take a trip there to visit some relatives and they brought me to Valleyfair. I rode on Steel Venom and loved it. It was the first name that came to my mind when I finished the bot.

And lastly, can someone tell me how to make a custom skin for my bot? I know how to export but its just red with green shapes... am I doing something wrong?

It's nice to see enthusiastic new players (awesome first bot btw). :D

Anyway, I'm gonna quote the Tutorial folder for this one:

Code: [Select]
Creating Custom Robot Textures

To create a custom texture for your robot and import it into the game, follow the instructions below:

Create the chassis of your robot. Without the chassis it will be impossible to do the next step.

Once the chassis is created you can proceed to the Paint Shop section of the Robot Workshop.

In the lower left hand corner there are two buttons that are used for exporting and importing custom textures.

Click on the Export Paint Template. You will then be given two choices:

By default the exporter will simply export a texture showing the texture areas used for the current chassis design. Enter a name and the file will be saved in the Infogrames\Robot Arena 2\Custom Textures\ folder.

The other option is to create the base texture within Robot Arena 2 using all of the Paint Shop tools, and then exporting this texture for additional enhancements. In the exporter dialogue box there is an option to "Export the current chassis texture instead of a template". By checking this option it will export out the texture as a bmp and put it in the following folder: Infogrames\Robot Arena 2\Custom Textures\ folder.

Now that you have either a template or a chassis texture exported. Create or modify the texture in your favorite image editing software.

Note: You can NOT alter the size of the texture to be bigger or smaller. Doing so will create an invalid texture and cause problems for the game.

Once you are happy with the texture, save the image. If you moved the image to another folder for editing purposes then copy the final bmp to this folder: Infogrames\Robot Arena 2\Custom Textures\

Now that you have the texture created, we can now import the texture back into the game using the Import Custom Paint button. Select the custom bitmap and click ok. Your chassis will now have the custom texture applied to it.
