Skeletar's showcase...
« on: May 31, 2009, 09:24:14 AM »
First: Yes, this is my first post and I'm proud of it!

second: Most of my bots are non-stock. Thats my fault because creativity (?) got in my way. I WILL build some stock bots soon...I promise. Just hold out for me for now. Lol.

third: Lol, I don't know...

I'm going to use imageshack mainly because photobucket is being mean to me...Sniff...

Bot classes

Strength-class:

S.E.C.U.R.I.T.Y

Uses the front " Pussycat blades " to chew through the opponent's armour. If the blades suddenly fail or break off, It can use the two irons in front. The huge sawblade in the back is useful for tearing of wheels, side weapons/items, and any kind of extender.

I'll get some more up later along with some battles...Also, credit to those who made the reactor energy cell and thepussycat blades.

R1885, do you have to be so..."harsh" to the newbies?

Some tips:

That is a massive chassis. Try to figure out what components you need, the build the chassis around the components.

Build to the weight limit. you have about 100 kgs left.

Never use ballasts. Sawblades aren't good in stock, but are in DSL. N12 wheels aren't very good, the best are shiny hubs, but you can use rubbers or grannies.

Never, ever use cheat parts.

Hello Skeltar, welcome to the forum, i'd pretty much echo what Reier said and add don't use car steering, ever. have a look around other peoples showcases, infiniteinertia, Clickbeetle, Psycolone, all good places to start and see what can be achieved, and how tight a robot needs to be. and if you need help with anything, or questions on how to do something, don't hesitate to ask. good luck sir.

also, upurs ftw on images.

What Reier said. :P

Also, check out other people's showcases. Try to clone some bots you see there, and after some time, you'll eventually develop your own style. :D

let me first say welcome to Gametechmods don't take posts like R1885's to hard it basically happens to everyone, most importantly take in everything people tell you and you will fit in fine, when you think you are ready then there is plenty of great tournaments for you to enter.

also don't bother with the power steering just wire your motors to skid steer

forward

left side anticlockwise - right side clockwise

backward

left side clockwise - right side anticlockwise

left

left side clockwise - right side clockwise

right

left side anticlockwise - right side anticlockwise

Thanks for the tips.

As you can see...When ever I build bots, they use mostly cheat parts, sadly. And have huge chassis. And wheels.

But I'll try to use the stock weapons and parts from now on and using a compact chassis. Thanks.

Also, read this:
http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm

this is literally you key to better bot building, once you familiarize yourself with those if you see any posts done by the user Sage (he will most likely post something in here) check out his signature for advanced building tips, also this is one of the BEST pieces of advice I ever got when I was new.

Quote from: Jack Daniels;27695
make the chassis as small as possible and use other things to protect the bot as a whole (snowplows, casters, ram plates etc etc)

In real life... a square bot with a ton of plating to protect the innards would be suitable for battle.  With this game, its kinda the opposite. Anything you can put outside the basic structure of the bot will keep the precious chassis and even more so precious contents safe.

As an exercise, try to make the smallest chassis you can make to fit a battery/control board/and maybe a snapper or two, then see what you can attach to the snappers to make the bot mobile/damaging/and protected.  This will teach you to congest things to a smaller chassis.

Because, remember, in battle... if a bot does a ton of damage to your chassis you are done for pretty quick... if the opponent nips away at exterior parts first before getting to the core, your bot has a better chance at surviving longer and winning the bout.

Except for popups... dammit those things piss me off.  When it comes to popups, disregard any sane rules or laws of reasonable physics altogether.

best of luck and keep building!

EDIT: AAAAh you guys beat me to it

EDIT2: just kidding.

Skeletar, you might really want to read and browse threads on the "Robot Arena 2" part of the forums (not on the DSL parts for now)

There is a ton of useful information on there.

Well, before I go off learning robotics... I'll just place down this bot i made in about 30 minutes or so...

SCARAB-class: Gamma 3 X8

I know, I know, it has ballasts. It would flip over on its nose if it didn't. The chassis shape is worthless, I know. The wheel placements are stupid, also. But, hey, I'm still learning. :P Now, off to the learning centers.

Some things:
Overly large chassis
Only use the smallest poll spikes
No RADS on a Hw
Moar Weapons
Over powered
What is the armor?

the space efficiency is better but huge lack of weaponry for a heavyweight also you have only used about half of the weight limit you can build up to 800kg of killer machine use every bit of it also ballets really don't effect anything as far as I know they are just there so infogames could make some of the AI fit into the heavyweights class, try casters for stability

Edit: o yeah R1885 I forgot about armor, always use DSA (double strength aluminum) it has the strength of steel with the weight of aluminum (aka the best armor you can get) to get it simply DONT click the armor button at all and bingo super strong armor :)

My contribution now;

Best wheels: Shineys.

Also instead of using spikes like that you should use either razors, irons, or maces.

Other than that, pretty much what everyone else has said. =)
Good evening.

Well, I've treid to build a new bot using the techniques I learned...I couldn't get the stacking bit right...But it turned out to be pretty ok for my first try with new techniques :3

Big improvement, but those castors are nothing but wasted weight. Also, it would be better to use razors or irons as I said instead of axe heads. Axe heads have damage normals which means that they only do damage with a certain part, in this case, the tip. The afore-mentioned razors and irons do not, and neither do maces. You can also put multiple razors/irons/w.e you choose on those extenders. Finally, unless that wedge is there for flipping, you could put it on a smaller snapper to free up space.
Good evening.

Why did you put the casters in the bot ?

I understand that chassis shape is for looking cool, but on a flipper it's better to have  a wedge (Front slope) shaped chassis.

Also do you really have DSA on that ? The chassis is something like 80kg !

I just failed. Badly. I thought the axe heads were attached to axes, as in a hammer bot. Didn't think it odd that they weren't attatched to burst motors... >.<

But apart from that I stand by what I said.
Good evening.

Read that it has to do with " Invincible armor " Or armour. Typo.

And theres a front slope where the little flipper is...

And yes weirdo, those aren't attached to any burst motors or snappers. Lol. Their there incase a bot somehow runs up on me.

I'm going to try to add something for the flipper, of course. Maybe a hidden iron? or a razor? I don't know. But I'll think I'll find out how some way.
