Hoppin's Bot Showcase
« on: October 24, 2016, 03:21:41 PM »
Hi,
This is my first showcase of my bot 'Mantis 5' Initially I had tried to recreate 'Mantis' from Robot Wars Series 7 but had changed it into this. First I had started out using servo motors for the 'claw' and lifters, after that I had changed it into the current motors to create Mantis 2, after a few fights I noticed that the now flippers would work better if the had something to counter balance them, creating Mantis 3 (Also attached). Though only to find out they break off really easily, so I had remade the chassis to create Mantis 4 and finally upgraded the drive to HP Z-Teks to get Mantis 5. Would really appreciate the feedback, thanks.

2 Links do not work.

Also, if you are planning to show other bots you might want to customize your title to accompany ALL of your bots (for each game branch (No DSL & Ironforge in same thread)) for the thread.

Edit: Those 2 links work again

Will, first off, your bot is underweight, you need to build up to bot limit.

Don't use Big Wheels, Shinies is better.

Pole Spike is useless, they has Normals which mean can damage a Robot in other direction, the best weapon are Razor tip, Iron Spike and Mace (sometime Bear Claw).

And what armor is it? DSA is better, it lighter than plastic but less stronger than Steel, don't touch armor tab, it give you DSA.

How is such a thing possible :bigO: ?

But yes, I concur.

You don't need three wedges. Just stick with two. I'm sure you can make that bot flatter and 4WD.

The rear ramplates are mostly useless. Better put them to the front so your bot takes less damage while it clamps the other bot.

Also, you'd better have a second claw arm. You need more weapons and less fragile clamps on this thing.

Well, Stock clamps are mostly useless because stock components are so fragile, but that doesn't mean you can't build a clamp in stock.

Im here to add some more bots to my showcase. These are; Mute, Swanky 2, Scoops and Not So MDGT.

Mute

Swanky 2

Scoops

NOT SO MDGT

Mantis 5/6 Update, I have added a second claw to Mantis, moved the ram plates to the front. However, I have chosen to keep the larger wheels for getting up ramps and kept the same amount of flippers to keep it heavy. (Mantis will no long be worked on).

Mute: Putting the Razor strips on without an angled connector gets you a popup from 2007. But we haven't used those 16kg monstrosities on a popup in a long time.

Swanky 2: When building a wedge, an upwards facing bust motor makes the wedge worse. Stock isn't flipper friendly. If you really want to see a stock flipper, look at No Hype 5 from BBEANS.

Scoops: I assume by "skirt" you mean "EMERGENCY Wedges". Against a well built wedge you'll probably lose as the center of a wedge is where it is most wedgy. You may be better off redesigning the wedges from scratch.

NO SO MGDT: Sledge Hammer have extremely low damage for their weight and one Black Battery can power 4 HPzs.

The skirts on scoops are the plows on the side, mainly so flippers can't get under it.

Would would be better than the sledgehammer then?

Side defenses tend not to matter in the meta game. But if you're building a bot for the pre built AI opponents, I guess it's not unreasonable. Just try to focus on your front in any competitive builds.

The best HS set up in the Middleweight class is either nine razors or six maces/irons.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I just wanted to make something more creative and had wanted to use some sideskirts so that was the idea I played with.

Ok, so I've reworked NOT SO MDGT's weapons by adding 3 HP Zteks on the ends of the tri bar then adding tribars and maces on them, the results where entertaining. But I'll be changing it to stack a HP in the center and add maces. [Update on that soon]

So today I've made a middleweight IRL (I think) stock vertical spinner: Disruptor
Though I still need to figure out a way of making it so that it won't fall onto it's back when flipped (because on it's back it wouldn't self right), an idea I have was to use a extender at the back to topple Disruptor onto it's side, allowing me to self right. I think I have enough weight left but am unsure about space. (Any recommendations are appreciated).

Disruptor Inner

Disruptor Outer

NOTE: I have removed the pink battery, bring the weight to 388.8 and the wheels are slightly further out, yet remain inside.

A way that you can self right is get rid of the baseplate anchor and replace it with a blue snapper then add the stuff you had on the old robot as well as self righting it boosts the weapon speed. Also how did you skin the robot? Good robot

Ok, thank you. I'll give it a go with the snapper idea. With the skin I just exported to paint then added textures to it.  :dumb)
