Black Knight's Stock Showcase
« on: March 04, 2012, 10:43:07 AM »
Alright, so I'm starting a showcase. Right now, I only have this one bot, which is a remake of the first bot I made on RA2. No custom skin yet because I'm just too lazy lol.

Components List:
6 HPZteks
2 Supervolt Batteries
2 Nifty Batteries
1 Small C02 Tank
2 80(?) CM Burst Pistons
2 70 CM Pole Spikes
3 90 Degree Base Extenders
2 100(?) CM Round Extenders
1 40 CM Round Extender
1 22.5(?) Degree Angle Extender
3 Snowplows
2 60 CM Discs
8 Iron Spikes
And a partridge and a pear tree lol.

One idea I had was to maybe change the two front Zteks into a couple of Angle Motors and use the extra space to add more pistons. Or remove the pistons and add a DDT Flipper. Any ideas?

overpowered, you only need 2-3 blacks in there
back plow is pretty useless too imo
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

Start off by reading through this, it should give you a pretty good overview on some of the more basic concepts of RA2:

I took a guess at how many batteries I needed. And, I read somewhere that One black= 2 HP Zteks, and a nifty is just one. Is that wrong? And yeah, the back plow is pretty useless, but if I get surrounded in a multi-bot death match, it does help. I also had some extra weight. Kill, I read the guide there once before, but thanks for posting the link here. I kinda lost it... lol. Thanks Naryar. I'm going to redesign the chassis to fit a little better, and try to stack a couple of supervolts. Stacking isn't considered illegal, is it?

Edit: Three quick updates- I tried stacking the supervolts for little while, but got lazy quickly. I also changed the chassis to some custom sizes for less extra room. And finally, I removed all three plows and replaced the two side plows with ram pates over the rear wheels and spike strips parallel with the front wheels. I need to move the entire assembly up, though. It still moves, but it gets stuck easily.

Double post for pictures :P.

Not technically "pictures", but I didn't feel like uploading and linking 3 pictures... so you guys get one large one. Thoughts? Nobody gave me a lot of advice before, either. That guide does help though.

The pinks aren't really necessary here, you could easily get away with two blacks. You could also save space by "Stacking" them together, i.e. mounting them inside each other. It's mostly trial and error, but it really is worth it. And the piston loons a bit useless as well, you could ditch that and add some more face spinners on the front if you can find the space for them. You might have to rework the chassis to make it all fit.

Alright, I'll give it a try. If I remove the Pistons and the CO2 Tank, then move the two side pieces back, I might be able to squeeze a HPZ where the anchors are now and axle load a face spinner right inside the two existing ones. And if I fail at that somehow, I could always rework the chassis so that the front wheels can be mounted farther back and put a face spinner there.

If you're having trouble with building techniques, check out the videos in the link I posted below. Sage compiled these techniques into videos for your viewing please, they are quite helpful at learning some of the most commonly used building techniques. I myself have learned from them quite a bit, and I've been around even longer than he has.

I already have his videos saved to my computer :P. Hes the only reason I understand what I'm doing now. And my idea is apparently impossible. I didn't know that discs only attach directly to a motor, and that an extender won't work. I have another idea though. Maybe it won't fail so bad.

I had this done for about half an hour but I went to take a shower after I did it and then had to edit the pictures. Just look at how far I'm bringing mah baby :P
Yeah, I was to lazy to remove those axles before continuing. Problem? Lol. And if I wanted to, could I use a Snapper  II in a tournament? Or is it banned because it's not technically a stock part?

Hey dude, welcome to the forums. Nice to see someone with such a good attitude towards advice.

Anyway, the bots not too bad, but honestly I would attach all the face spinners via the snapper II(which is indeed legal). That way you can shrink the chassis even more and possibly get a fourth face spinner. Once you face starcore cots your going to notice twelve irons isn't nearly enough.

And how would I go about doing that? The only way I see to do that would be to snapper load like before, use a T-Connector where the HPZ is, connect a 20CM Extender on one side, hover on the end of it with another one, fire the Snapper II and connect the 20CM to fit the HPZ on each 20CM extender, and repeat for the other side. Or am I missing/forgetting something? This is my first bot I've used any glitches on, btw, so I don't know much except for what I learned in Sage's vids and from experiences with this bot.

Don't bother with the old, long, "adding a metric ton of axles" axle load technique. you can just axle load by adding extenders on the motor and making it spinning then stopping repeatably.

Alright, thanks for the tip. I assumed I could do it that way when I saw the axle mount axles flying off while I was snapper loading, but I had no reason to try at that point.

Alright, so I finished this version of the bot. It now has four HPZ spinners, a shortened chassis, and some bad extender work for poor defense.

PROS: Good damage on initial impact; 300-700 average
Front wheels aren't easily removed, back wheels aren't easily reached

CONS: Any slightly angled surface on a enemy bots becomes a ramp
Bots with overhead-swinging weapons take out my spinners and extender work pretty fast
Still drive-able when inverted, but the extender work gets in the way so it's not great
Damage during sustained contact is bad. 30-110 is the norm

Pics:

WARNING: UNDER CONTRUCTION

Fail editing FTW!

Any ideas on how to improve now? I  definitely need to change that extender setup, so if you think I can make that a lot better without changing anything major I'd appreciate it.

You're wasting quite a lot of weight on extender work there.
