NC as Tech Adviser
« on: June 23, 2011, 09:28:25 AM »
As suggested by many, I'm applying to be "Tech Adviser".

Some people supporting me (PM me if you think I falsely quoted you and you don't support me at all):

nightcracker should become quickest Tech Adviser in history of GTM! I'm callin it!

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but what is a tech adviser, what does it mean on these forums?

Tech advisers are the absolute brains of the forum.  They understand all that coding voodoo and partake in binary-talk witchcraft.

It is really only a matter of hours time before you become one as well.

Anyone wanna make an NC4TA (nightcracker for Tech Advisor) badge? :P

Oh and apparently people want me as Tech Adviser :)
You sure do merit that title.

Disclaimer:
I added a poll only to see the opinion of the community. If voting like this is not the way it goes at GTM then please consider this thread as never posted.

Now im not condemning any ideas here and interested in hearing everyone's thoughts.. as my "mentor" says "input is appreciated, so lets have some food for thought"..

Does Tech Adviser apply in general or specific to RA2 ?

In general it appears so that NC (though cant quite find the right section to post in :P I kid, I kid) would deserve the title..

But if was to be thrown into the RA2 tech support section.. could he come up with an answer for a significant amount of queries, the same way as Trov or Serge can ?

If the answer is yes, then by all means, if the answer is no.. well you can see where im heading.

Though I dont doubt the fact you will get there soon, there is no need to jump the gun.. If you can understand with the title means a huge increase in RA2 questions being fired at you..

Joe's response looks like the best here.

But yeah, one day we'll see NC's name in... What color is that again?

I voted no (dunt kill me D:) because for me it seems that he has been here for too short a time.
It may just be me but most of the others have been here for a while and know loads of it and have seen RA2 evolving.

Or not :P
But if you guys think it's a good idea then go for it

I'm afraid I voted No as well. Same reasons as Tyler and Joe, really. There's no doubting that you're a very skilled programmer and such, but I don't think you've had the same kind of experience with RA2 as guys like Serge and Trovaner have. In time, you definitely will get that title, but I think you might be going for it a touch too early at the moment.

Voted no as well, and for the same reasons Joe and Craaig did. But I am most certainly not just following the new trend of voting "no" that Joey just started.

That is too early, while the guy looks like a skilled programmer and we rarely get skilled/clever newbies, you will need more experience about RA2 to be worth Tech Adviser.

Plus, why are you applying ? The staff will judge your work in time and will give you your title if they feel you deserve it. People don't "apply" for positions here, exceptions being when the staff asks for one (example would be Kill343).

AKA: Nightcracker, you are being too eager and too quick in your rise to power.

If he gets Tech Adviser, Can I have, Forum Bastard or Forum Idiot or somthing like that?

Vote no

Yes I did browse through all 8 pages of his history.  I just can't find anything involving serious RA2 mechanics testing, insights in modding/gmf, or RA2 programming (written software/tinker with exe/etc).  Like I see Autohotkey related stuff, but that's not really programming.

I expect GTM Tech Advisers to know more about programming and the workings of this game than I do.

Why don't we get Serge's opinion on it (him being a Tech at the moment)?

haters

What hate ?

If you expect us to hate him just because we voted "no" then your mind needs to expand a bit. I don't hate him personally. I find him a possibly valuable addition to this community, and that is all.

Of course, they might be some people that actually secretly hate him here for some dumb reason (jealousy, rising star, etc...), though that theory doesn't just sound reasonable.

Oh, and why even make a vote ? The staff will decide, not the plebs.
